The main issue with 390s is the overheating. It has been solved on 390 Adv with the new coved radiator. And this new Duke has it. This will definitely going to be better.
@nostraware I've run a 390 gen 2 for 3 years and 32k kilometres. I live in a hot tropical country. The bike has never even got close to over heating. The temp indicator stay stable at half way. The coolant doesn't even drop. Hardly ever need to top up. I just change it out every year.
I have the 22 model, done about 30k kilometers, absolutely had a blast on it, definitely looking forward to trading it in for the 24 model... The 23 model wasn't worth my time.
@Pemalite nice. Such a fun bike. Really I always think when I riding it. A 373cc bike should not be able to do this 🤣. Have you had any issues with yours?
@@chriswest2290 No issues at all, been 100% rock solid since the day I bought it from the shop floor. I am the first and only owner though, so I know it's service history.
I started on a first gen duke 390 and could not recommend this bike more for beginners. The years of quality upgrades have proven KTM deserves a slot in those typical 'best beginner bike' list - but in reality, it rarely actually gets mentioned. Crazy how dominate yamaha and kawa have on the us market when it comes to beginners.
Im surprised U mentioned that of even the First 390 - Beginners should look elsewhere, there are Plenty of choices - The idea is to buy something to transition from beginner to intermediate quickly, not remain in the pit
That’s cus those other bikes are beginner bikes. The ktm 390 can be pushed hard where an experienced rider can enjoy that ktm drive train, even in a 390. I have a 990 superduke, sometimes the 390 is just what the road wants!
I wonder, my last bike was a 2010 KTM 690 Duke. I had an accident the same year (2010) and been driving cars ever since. All these years later and now at 37 years old I wonder if this 390 Duke would be a good way to get back into this.🤔
Absolutely yes! I just turned 65 yrs, I just sold my 2019 390 duke it was a blast to ride. Considering the new 24 model, it has a lot of upgrades right out of the box!

I have the 21duke 390 and even though I think it looks good this new model looks awesome. Hope they don't overprice it as the previous models are the best value bike in Australia IMO.
LOVE IT. Looks like a baby Super Duke. Also the tech? Awesome package. I love my GSXR 750 to death but these feature packed 400's are making me think about trading. These things are super reliable and IT HAS A SUPERMOTO MODE. And truth be told I've ridden all sorts of bikes and small displacements are so much more fun coz you're not always worried about breaking the speed limit, or finding big enough roads to feel that superbike power. Lower cc's the thrill factor out weighs the death factor perfectly. And I think the modern 400's have good power (enough to get some wheel spins, drifts, wheelies and good acceleration) and till this day one of the best handling bikes I've ever felt was a KTM RC125 a few years ago. That precise, lightweight ktm handling is a dream. You think it, it goes there. And you don't have to worry about being too rough on the throttle and losing the rear or high siding. Plus They teach you valuable skills that'll take you years to learn on big bikes.
I wonder what skills you are talking about here. I ride small displacement bikes, not by choice but because that's the only option in my country. I hate them so much. On highways, I always am afraid of cagers and trailers dragging me under their tires when they are passing me. Also, I don't like the scream of the engine when I try to keep up with traffic, the engine sounds like it's going to explode. Finally, because of always operating the engine at its max capacity, these bikes get wasted too fast. My current one (a 200cc naked) is now at 35k km and I am already considering buying a new one since the engine is almost done with.
Had triumph 675r Daytona, loved it, not good on rough back roads and I could do 90 mph in 2nd gear. So way more bike then I would ever use. I’m 58. I got a 2008 990 superduke used, feel in love with ktm drive train. But it is very manic, ready to race and can’t do anything else😅. Plus repair bills can be costly, so I got a 2024 390 duke, and for the cost, and weight, I rip the back roads. Can’t wait to get the quickshifter. Because I’m finding you have to shift more often sometimes. Not bad, but different than a bigger bike.
Been looking at the 390 for awhile but never pulled the trigger. The second I saw the orange 2024 version I was sold. I will be getting it as soon as its available in my country. Been riding for 20 years (mostly competitive) and, in my opinion, this or the Vitpilen 401 is the perfect commuter bike.
Still surprised that they didn't share the same engine with the CFMOTO 450NK/SS/SR. Initially I thought it would only make sense that they would share an engine but knowing how KTM prioritizes torque, I think a bored up single cylinder engine is the best for them.
If the 165kg wet weight figure is actually excluding fuel that would be rather odd. The "old" 390 was weighed at 160 kg wet including fuel and 149 kg dry. The "old old" 390 was even 10 kg less than that at 150 / 139 kg wet / dry but the missing ABS might be one of the major reasons there.
Multiple sources say the new 390 weighs more dry than the z400 wet. I really hope the '24 390 adv isn't too heavy I was really looking forward to that bike :(
Euro 5, bigger engine, upgraded parts. Who cares, it's not a freaking cruiser. Ride a cruiser then ride a sports bike or naked, weight becomes negligible and pointless to talk about.
Why does this look so much better than the 790/890? This legit looks like the super duke. In fact, the old version also looked better than the middle weights. So strange.
I sat on one yesterday at the Triumph garage in Saigon. It feels amazing! Loved the look of the RC390 as well but not the best bike for the roads here, I'll go for the Duke for sure! RC390 would be great fun on UK twistie roads when I go home.
Esthetic-wise, the biggest change is the relocation of the silencer. I don't like big silencers on the side of a motorcycle. I therefore welcome this approach of placing the silencer underneath the swingarm instead.
I love the looks and want to use it for every day riding but the previous generation was not comfy enough for my legs. I stand at 6.1 and I wish this time they did me the favor!!

Not really, the midrange punch is certainly there. But even a 250 ninja will eventually walk away from a 390rc/duke.
