In this behind-the-scenes peek at the making of Jurassic Park III's Pteranodon "Bridge Attack" scene, the SWS live-action dinosaur effects crew rehearse the sequence at Stan Winston Studio.
Tests like this served 3 purposes: to work out mechanical and artistic issues before the shoot day, to share progress with the filmmakers, and finally, to capture the creative process for future generations to refer back to and derive inspiration from.
P.S.: Special kudos to Dawn Dininger as the damsel in distress and Mark Viniello in the Pteranodon suit.

God I wish practical work was still used often.
Yeah, you said it, practical effects never gets old and it adds realism based on my perspective, it's better than CGI rendered effects.....
@@rexmexzilla since digital effects are so "good and easy" they put dinosaurs moving as hyperactive criters with a severe case of scoliosis. They also put a lot of "cool" filters instead of more natural lightning. They put the dinosaurs in hilariously ridiculous situations like taking lava at their face, slashing through metal plates, or sneaking into a bedroom. The downfall of this franchise is a shame. Imagine if we had a new jurassic park movie with Prehistoric Planet levels of rendering, animation, acuracy and care.
@@milmundosThis would be actual god-tier films
Fun fact: Practical effects companies are unionized. CGI effects companies aren't. That could be a reason why you see so much unnecessary CGI nowadays. The big movie studios are greedy.
Jp3 turned into a horror film because of these guys.
Spino, Pteranodon and that Quilled Velociraptor made jp3 a horror
@@godzillagurus576 no. The practical effects guys turned it into a horror film. The cgi made it a cartoon.
@@justanotherdayinthelife9841 bro how was that a cartoon?
@@bennel71385 it was animated and pasted over real effects that were superior. It was a classic blunder from Management.
@@justanotherdayinthelife9841saying that CGI is a cartoon is complicated, the CGI only made it more real in certain scenes
Jurassic Park III had the best Dinosaur animatronics, designs, CG and animations. Hands down
I agree
unfortunately there is only that good in the movie
yeah, thats what latest movies tend to be.
@@Etikal Better than the WORLD movies
@@MWK1995Jurassic World is way better than JP3 bro what are you smoking?
Man, even knowing this is animatronic, it's still damn scary!
The way the animatronic moves. It looks so real
Can only imagine what the real things were like. I think nature was giving us a chance by deleting them.... though they would have been awesome to see...... from a distance.
That's an animatronic?
@@SaimonBhattarai2I believe this one's a puppet. All the JP movies mixed between animatronics and puppets
@@e_zee5902 that explains why it moves so fast
That looks amazingly real, even with the puppeteer fully visible it's so convincing!
Bro it looks so real!!!!!
That’s honestly fucking terrifying 😰
Even though I'm not a huge fan of Jurassic Park 3, I will give it huge props for continuing to make excellent use of practical effects and animatronics. The Pteranodons, the Velociraptors and the Spinosaurus were impressive as hell.
That's nightmare fuel. Very well done.
Pteranodon: _Do you have any oats brother?_
This beautiful puppy look so real!
This specific video shows the biggest reason that the original trilogy is better than the new ones. This is amazing
When I first saw the short I actually thought it was a real pteranodon showing how good the effect is Stan Winston, legendary, practical fax artist, rest in peace man, rest in peace at least your family members are still alive and one day when I’m older I’m going to go to your school website and learn how to be a practical effects artist like you, and also make movies
Love the JP3 dinosaurs so much! Did you guys happen to find the footage from the animatronic Spinosaurus and Trex fight? People have been dying to see the Rex head get accidentally ripped off 😂
Unfortunately, we don't have footage about it, but yes, SWS ended up knocking the head off of the T-rex. You can read about it here: www.stanwinstonschool.com/blog/jurassic-park-iii-spinosaurus-animatronic - Adrienn
Unbelievable, better than any CGI
Human , any bread I can have .
I love the Pteranodon test at Stan Winston Studio.
That is awesome
That was one of my favorite parts of the movie! It was so creepy walking out of the fog!
Looks and moves so real
Holy shit, that's as realistic it gets before CGI takes over, props to to the man behind.
i cannot express how i love this video, i love animatronics, in fact i plan to make them, and i love pterosaurs
Ive always loves Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park 3 I've been watching pt 3 since middle school and brings me back childhood memories .
Wow so incredible! Practical effects for the win!
I was convinced that was a real pteranodon for a second. it’s amazing what practical effects can do in a movie
This is awesome, and so real. The music of it really brings me there into the world.
The animatronics here do get a bit quirky at night
So freaking awesome!!! Giratina approved 👍
Absolutely amazing!
Dude that’s insanity
The human animatronics is so realistic that the acting pteranodon is surprised
I'm both inpressed and terrified.
class
That looks sick
i swear you can never go wrong with practical effects
It’s scary how real it looks
It actually looks like you actually cloned a pteranodon
God this brings back memories when I was a kid and terrified by the ptradon secen we’re they were in the aviary
Moves so realistically wow so cool
Jesus, that's freaky!!! So realistic!!
perfect haloween costume
then, there was the bite of 87
This one looks better than CGI rendered creature
It look so real.
Awesome robotics
I LOVE IT SO MUCH!
talent talent talent and creativity 🔥
Beyond awesome!! I love this creature❤️🤩
Nice 💪👍
Pteranodon looks awesome
Amazing!
THIS is filmmaking 👌🏽
Bro looks real
THAT LOOKS HECKING REAL
Saying “hecking” is EXTREMELY cringeworthy. Say fucking. Sounds better.
It looks so alive.
That is amazing
I remember I got freaked out at this scene, with it coming out of the fog.
This is so cool ,a dream is comin true !
I am big fan of JP my whole entire life ,my biggest Dream is to see them in real and touch them.
Greetings from the Netherlands.
Awesome - they should have their own amusement park, would make Universal look like amateur hour.
I love it! 😍
Damn looks so lifelike
god this is genuinely frightening
Pterodactyl 😰😩
Musically terrified
Visually frightened
Extremely talented
In the movie, I thought that was CGI but this thing is damn real💀
That is creepy
Pterodactyl
Terrifying
Imagine if it started flying
You know, my childhood dream was to be a Dinosaur. This is literally my dream job
Its so good looking that it looks creepy as fuck! Almost like a 3D-Render aswell! Very impressive!
Wow amazing!!!!!!
Is this a animatronic/costume? So cool!
that almost looks ALIVE i thought the animatronics would be more cgi-enhanced ngl thats amazing
I like how the animatronics from The Lost World are up on the shelves behind them. I wonder if they considered bringing them out to be filmed for JP3 at any point
Thats insane looking
When it’s not in the fog it looks terrifying
And the ptereanadon looks so real and scary i would hate to go to Jurassic Park if it were real.
TOO REALISTIC… THATS AWESOME :D
I want this
I want one right now
Puppetry and animatronics from SW school will always be better than any CGI technology to me. ❤❤❤❤❤
Hoje o cgi está muito mais realista
Okay don't panic! If we drop the fish sandwich slowly maybe we can run in time!😂 amazing work! Fantastic as always!🎉
A dinosaurs alive omg
Jurassic park 3 Pteranodon
Still the coolest Pteranodon in the entire franchise
My man ludodactylus has been done dirty
Not gonne lie, that thing looks alive.
Onwaarschijnlijk, machtig! ☺️👍❤️
I wish that was an actual costume that you could buy.
If this was still alive, I wouldn't leave my house.
I don't remember seeing this in the behind the scenes DVD.
"Anon i'm hungry, i want nuggets or i eat you"
I want to be a pteranodon now
I know it's an animatronic, but that Supervisor got balls of Adamantium to be around it.
Dang! That looks awesome! But, think about, animatronics can be as deadly as the real thing in the hands of the wrong person😮
These things were the stuff of nightmares as a kid. Like winged demons.
It's me:D!
You can explain to me exactly how this thing works, but some part of my brain, will still believes thats this is real
Best pteranodons of the JP franchise ✨
So lifelike!! Even with the puppeteer clearly behind it, there's so much fluid motion. So many wonderful practical effects from years gone by! The Jurassic World trilogy - especially Fallen Kingdom - is close to this quality, but it's just not the same. Cool that in this video we get to see the animatronic skeleton of the Pachycephalosaurus from TLW on the shelf behind the Pteranodon, since it was absent in JP3.
Parece de verdad esta muy bien hecho no parece animatronicos jo universal lo hace todo a lo grande 👍👍👍👍
