There are too many categories to put him up for! Clapton is the only other individual who comes to mind who has contributed to the pantheon as much as Nick Lowe
A true musical treasure...I've seen him several times over the decades and he is a charming, funny, heartfelt performer...So happy Los Straightjacket play with him now...They've totally reenergized him and his music
What a welcome treat - thanks so much to Nick, Roy, and all of the other artists online these past few weeks who have welcomed us into their homes and helped brighten our day a bit in these uncertain times!
Nick, AMAZING ! You are a consummate songwriter. Every song was wonderful. Besides your classic Peace love and understanding, That last song, About Reading More these Days, was beautiful, and your guitar playing was so spot on lovely and masterful in its nuance. THANK YOU!
Dear Nick: Your son Roy is a really fine little drummer!!! Good SOLID beats, really nice fills and ready willing and able to back up the best in the biz...at 14! Really really really good set, man. Please do more!!!!!! Peace and love! (and understanding!)
Your boy Roy has a solid internal feel for tempo, and as you know, that's the big foundation needed at his age to continue to success as a drummer/percussionist. You go Roy!
One of the best! Nick is such a awesome tune smith and artist. I have been a huge fan for 40 years of my life. It truly is hard to beat Mr. Lowe. He's voice still sounds the way it did in 1979...perfect!
So good to see you Nick. Also your son as well drumming away. Roy was right on the money Nick, didn't miss a beat with the brushes. Thanks for doing this and hope to see you two again soon. Stay well and safe the two of you.
My son plays the trombone, so how happy you made me to hear your first song: Trombone; which was a joy to listen to! NL, I’ve loved your music all my life! Thank you for sharing your enormous talent with us! And, Nick, you’ll always be young to me! Great job, Roy!
Thank you so much for this. I was surprised by how touching it was. The beautiful stripped down songs, son on snare drum, living room setting, your dog...it was all enchanting, and needed.
Nick, you are my hero. I have followed you since listening to you on the original WHFS in Bethesda, MD back in the late 70s. So many awesome songs. So much great music. Thank you
@@stevemurray2737 Yeah. It's too bad. I think Dave got too "old" for Nick or something. Dave kinda retired. His last CDs were slow instrumental works...nothing like "Crawling from the Wreckage!"
AltonBeckert I heard a Nic Lowe quote the other day. “if he writes a song, he works on it until he sounds like some Elise wrote it and if he covers a song he works on it until it sounds like he wrote it.”
Lol and isn’t that just what he does. His new song Lay it on me, when I first heard it, I just presumed he was doing a cover of some old classic lol? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve done that.
@@MisterRich420 He had Heart Problems and had to stop touring There are some Great youtube clips of Dave jamming with the Jules Holland Band and he still sounds and plays great.powerpopnews.com/2015/cd-review-dave-edmunds-rags-classics/
Damn I feel old! I remember when Roy was born, seems like it was just a few years ago! I only got to see Nick once, but what an experience that was! It was the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara in the Summer of 2001. Beautiful old theatre, small audience, just Nick and his guitar, sitting on a barstool. His son Roy wasn't even a gleam in his eye yet!
Love it. I was at Woodbridge School with Nick back in the '60s. At the time Nick played bass in the School Group along with Brinsley Schwarz and Barry Landemann (went on to play on the No 1 hit "Hitchin' a Ride by Vanity Fair"). They were the inspiration for me taking up the guitar in December '63 - a hobby which has stayed with me to the present day. Thanks Nick. Still looking and sounding great.
Wow what a cool story. I know he even served his time in Hamburg like the Beatles did? Ry Cooder said he really rates Nick Lowe as a Bass player. I know he downplays it, but he’s an exceptional guitar player.
2 things: it took literally minutes for people to jump on this. Nick is loved. Secondly his left hand is so unique on how he chords. When I first started playing I found artists like him inscrutable. It’s just how he learned, how he mutes/plays. Not right or wrong. Just big lanky hands. The end result: beautiful. Total control. Neat to see different guitars, his love of Gibson jumbos is obvious.
Couldn’t have said it any better mate. His guitar playing doesn’t often get mentioned, but like you say his muting and the chords he plays are very much unique to him. So many guitar players suck at rhythm and yet he does it so naturally, maybe it’s down to his bass playing days? Love how he plays it down, as if he’s not very good lol. Anyone doubts this, just try and do this lol.
I've seen Nick Lowe solo , with a band and with Little Village . Always amazing . The Basher is one of my all time favorite albums . I remember Nick quipping I'm going to do a medley of my hit...before playing Cruel to be kind .
Really enjoy this performance and the young drummer on the snare and brushes. He's right on with the accents, everything. I've worked gigs with older working drummers that don't have the feel he has with just his snare.
Just a general comment: It has been so awesome with all the legends doing these sorts of things during this tough period in our world's history. However, I wish it would occur not just during troubled times. This form of communication with fans means so much.....do continue and to all others. Keep up the great work, it's really appreciated! 🎶🎶🎶
Excellent! I always liked Nick Lowe’s singing! This is just what I needed right now! I feel so much better! Thanks, man! For giving a damn! Music has so much power to make one feel better. Soothes the Soul! And you a Master of Music! 👏🏻🔥🎸🙏🏻😎
Nick Lowe is one of the classiest rock stars around (or as he modestly describes himself, someone who "had a brief career as a pop star.") Instead of trying to maintain a youthful appearance, he has aged gracefully, and instead of continuing to play at ear-splitting volume and breakneck speed (as in, forever "Heart of the City"), he now turns out songs that are quiet, understated melodic and lyrical treasures. A true master.
Fantastic - Nick Lowe is right up there with Ray Davies, John Hiatt, Hoagy Carmichael, Berlin, Simon and the list goes on Lennon - very very underrated song writer - your getting better with age . Keep writing . It’s all in the lyrics and melody !! Good on ya 👍💚🇺🇸🇬🇧☘️
Thanks for posting this, lovely to see father and son playing so well with such a great connection. In these dark days just having lost the great Bill Withers and John Prine, it's great to be reminded of all those wonderful talented musicians that are still plying their trade. Great songs, loved "trombone"...he is such a great story teller...
Loved this. Nick should do a tour in this configuration with his son. It works really well. I just listened to the studio version of "Trombone" for the first time, and while it's great, I think this version bests it. Unvarnished.
Hi Nick, this quarantine business has got us all pulling out our guitars. I'm so happy to see stars like yourself and others doing the same. Great stuff, mate. From South Australia.
You are a wonderful singer Nick Lowe, I have played , " I knew the bride when she used to rock and roll, I Love that song too. I wish I could meet you !!!
Such a nice man by all accounts. Or so I was told by his ex bandmate Mr Brisnley Schwarz himself, who built one of my guitars and did much work on the others at now sadly demised Chandler Guitars over the years ( I was playing that lovely thinline only today Brin!). A lot of people were under the impression that it was Elvis Castello who wrote 'What's so funny about peace, love and understanding' but it was Nick's song and it was first performed by the Brinsley Schwarz (for who a very young Mr Castello was a dedicated and much loved roadie before he became the legend he himself is today). A great song. Its been good to Mr Lowe, it was good to Mr Castello and I think its been good for anybody who's ever heard it over the forty five odd years since Nick Lowe wrote it!
Nick should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. One of our best..
He isn't?!

"Peace, Love, and Understanding" is one of the finest songs written during my long lifetime. Nick Lowe is a very talented songwriter.
GenkiSugiru Apparently, Nick’s dog isn’t a big fan of it.
And very relevant in the US right now.

Kid keeps time like a metronome, but he's loose, too. Well done, Roy.
I love Nick, but the kid makes it.
He learned from the best!
That's his son!
How old is the kid?
Yes, Roy quietly steals the show - well done, Dad and Son!
Nick Lowe is a legend, everything from Rockpile to his solo stuff !!
Nick you must be proud that your son has a natural feel for rhythm.. and playing it so well.
yeah, that's cool!
i think any human exposed to Nick like Roy must be would get a lot of nurturing of that 'natural feel' T.O.
So cool that Nick Lowe is jamming with his son Roy on the drums. It does not get much more intimate than a musician performing in their living room.
Have you seen the Tears For Fears guy perfoming Mad World with his daughter? Heartily recommended.
Mark S. Curt Smith and his daughter, fabulous!
He knows drums.
Yep really impressive on those brushes. I think everyone digs him as much as the Basher.
John Fogerty of CCR is doing a series of songs from home with his kids as well - he is 74!!
Thank you, Nick Lowe, for putting a smile on my face right now.

great solid drumming Great video!
He really has. I did see a comment by Nick about his son showing worrying signs of being a musician lol.
I concur Les ...
Yea great snare drumming defo got talent for it

gollymrme omg I couldn't disagree more. From another 40 year plus year fan.
All the cool people dig Nick Lowe. Those I deem worthy I’ll put em onto The impossible Bird album and invariably, they end up needing more.

Yep, Nick Lowe is a true gift to those of us who appreciate thoughtful music.
Yep it’s like everyone who likes Nick Lowe is bound to be a cool person? I just wish he’d make another album?
Hardly underrated. More like a god
I wish for one last collaboration with Dave Edmunds. Even a Rockpile reunion. Hey, can't a boy dream?
