- Going through and editing this video I enjoyed the movie even more. I think I needed to see it twice to understand all of the relationships and changes over time. And to fall in love with some of the music. Speaking of music, these people can sing. I was in awe of that both times.
P.S. there's a little bonus at the end. Enjoy!

Just so you know, this film was the only film to ever have a musical with live singing. Every other musical will have the actors prerecord, but this was all sung as they were acting. I still can't get over how amazing that is. When I was 15 in 1996 I had a choice between going to see Smashing Pumpkins and Les Miserables, and I went happily to the musical! So worth it.
Wow! I would have never guessed. That makes this movie even better. They were marvelous!
Personally, my favorite is the O2 performance of this story.
I’m crying watching the end. I do every damn time.
Saw this in theater when I was 12... bawled my eyes out ofc.
No matter how many times I see this, at the end I'm always smiling with tears running down my face.
Glad you liked most of it.
The greatest strength of the musical is that it ruthlessly condenses an absolute doorstop of a book - no joke, you'd probably need six months to a year of reading nothing else to finish it. I also love how the recurring melodies, rather than being attached to individual characters, swirl around the entire cast - very unusual structure.
What I liked about this film version of the musical is that it really took advantage of how much closer a camera can get to someone's face than a stage show can. That's probably why it felt really intense in places.
My one hesitation is that being a big Hollywood blockbuster, they tend to play up the less interesting romantic aspects, while playing down the more timely and relevant issues such as soaring economic inequality and an absurd justice system that were central to the novel.
You noticed a lot more about the movie than I did. Now I want to read the book even if it takes me a year.

Here's a shorter experience in the meantime : someone uploaded the original West End show for you to compare. ruclips.net/p/PL8f_ACV3dM08jVdtI5EK4OP0Vc-IGxNSR (Fun fact - the old priest in the film is actually the Valjean here - some voice he had.)
@@PurushaDesa thank-you!!! I think I need to re-watch the movie now too. It's been about a year and I have a fresh perspective now.
Interesting Fact: The priest at the beginning was played by Colm Wilkinson, who originally played Jean Valjean in the Broadway run of the musical. Phenomenal voice.
Wilkinson was amazing in Les Mis! Of course, I've only seen him in the 10th Anniversary concert, but he was incredible in that.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH
Lol funny you say this priest reminds you of the one from Hunchback of Notre Dame since they were both written by Victor hugo.
As a big fan of French literature myself Hugo is absoluteltly indelible.
The priest was actually played by Colm Wilkinson, who played Valjean in the original cast.
GIRL IMAGIN WATCHING THIS AT 15 IN THE THEATERS THE DAY IT CAME OUT!!!!!!!!
I love it but its so heartbreaking
First movie to make me cry since E.T.
Don't overpronounce the end of miserables, Americans tend to mispronounce it but as a French speaker its a very soft l and not miserab-lays
The UK series is well worth a watch. It's much closer to the original book and gives a much fuller story (the book is massive, is actually 5 books in one). It's also really well made.
The priest is played by Colm Wilkinson, he played Jean Valjean on stage
I know I am late to the party but....There are so many story lines because the book is over a thousand pages long. This is a play and a movie that gets better the more you watch it. It is actually based on true events that happened a little after the Nepolianic wars. The priest is similar to the priest in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" because Victor Hugo wrote both books. I find it very amusing that Russel Crowe got one of the leads and he can't sing a lick. However, Hugh Jackman has an amazing voice. This I knew because he has song on Broadway before. Any one else notice the strong resemblance between Belle and the actress who played Éponine the inn keepers daughter?
Many people make fun of Russell Crowes singing. I thought he did the best could with what he had.
Great content! You’re doing reactions to things others aren’t. Try theses...(darker)...Leon the professional( the professional), or True Romance, for lighter/fun.. Babe..(the pig one not baseball) or Up(Disney). For sci-fi..Flash Gordon, or last starfighter. For drama...As good as it gets...comedy...groundhog day.. just some that’ll get you hits.
Thank-you! I'm mostly picking random movies, ones that look interesting to me. And thank-you for all of the recommendations. I've seen quite a few of those, I especially love Babe, but I'll look into the others.
You have to Romberg this was originally a play
If you decide to do any more Reese Witherspoon films, may I recommend the following:
Legally Blonde
Sweet Home Alabama
Just Like Heaven
Cruel Intentions
The Man In The Moon
EDIT:
Damn, I forgot
Pleasantville &
Election
I've seen the first two but not the others. They look interesting though, all very different. I didn't realize she had been acting for so long. She was just a kid in The Man In The Moon.
Belle: Life is in Bloom Hi.
Thanks for hitting me back.
Maybe you could watch the First one again? It never gets old IMO
Just for the purposes of the review
I highly recommend the ones you haven’t seen also.
Great films.
I believe MITM was her first film.
@@adnap it does never get old, and I haven't seen it for a long time. I've been thinking about rewatching movies I haven't seen in more than a decade, and that one qualifies.
Belle: Life is in Bloom 👍
Just your ❤️
I played Javert when I did it
Just say "Pardon my French."

For the liberty
I thought it was for the French movie masterpiece, Les Misérables 2019 .... Sorry
This was an adaptation of Victor Hugo's book with the same name. It was based on the French revolution and the people who suffered through the era.
Les Miserable is The Miserables in french
Miserable is a French word, coopted into English.
