  • This is Zerg mission 10 from the Starcraft: Brood War campaign, titled Omega. This is the last Zerg mission before Starcraft 2.
    Sorry about the epilogue, just like in the original, Fraps doesn't record the text screens beyond the first one. It mentions Artanis returning to Shakuras to rebuild, and Zeratul and Raynor going their separate ways, both having not been heard from since. Kerrigan lords over her swarms, but has a feeling a great threat is looming.
    It's nice to finally have all the videos finished, and I hope you guys enjoyed them. Starcraft 2 is less than three weeks away!

      being logical they did not forget their affronts to the protoss, in heart of the swarm they did not and in legacy of the void Amon was the biggest threat to the galaxy and obviously they would concentrate on saving his people and defeating the fallen xelnaga before Kerrigan.

      @@ReshyShirathe problem with kerrigan s redemption arc it is that it isn actually a redemption at all. Instead, the prophecy seems to absolve her of all guilt. She never truly makes something to truly repent, spending most of her story carrying a revenge for personal reasons, committing several war crimes in the process, and then jus becoming a goddess, with no real act that validates her redemption

    I know this is kinda beating a dead horse, but I miss this Kerrigan. The original voice actress seems to be having a lot of fun with the dialogue. She's ruthless and intimidating but at the same time she's clearly mocking her foes and cracking jokes. The new VA is great, but they gave her character almost no range. All of the footage I've seen, she's way too serious. Almost like she lost all the fire in her personality.

      I could also be completely wrong, but the kind of mentality above wouldn't phase kerrigan as the queen of blades was born of tortured thoughts. And I say a kerrigan who actually remembered her crimes paired with a scolding Jim would have made the first act of hots much cooler in my opinion.

When I played as them, I felt that I am really doing something good for humanity, overthrowing a tyrant (Mengsk), and neutralizing a zerg threat. They had that strange aura of pride around them. I vividly recall playing SC's last mission when I was around 10 years old with a friend during a sleepover. The dialogues, the music the mission begins with was so perfect, it definitely gave you an eerie feeling.
    I was so accostumed to games where the good guy wins, so this ending really made an impression upon me; recall, I was around 10, so I didn't get all the nuances, but I do clearly remember thinking that, at some point, Raynor or some UED reinforcement fleet would arrive to save the "good guys" and it never happened. Instead you get the video of Kerrigan murdering all, DuGalle dying full of regrets and his fleet murdered, and an epilogue line saying that Kerrigan stood alone on a platform looking at space thinking that maybe all of this was a hollow victory.
    I recall laying in bed, unable to sleep and thinking of how this game made me feel, it really hit deep, and it taught me lessons I cherish to this day, most notably, that pride can blind you and speed your doom (The Protoss of the original SC, the Confederates, DuGalle with the UED, and then Kerrigan later on, winning but feeling empty)
    Then SC2 came and just made it a soap-opera between Kerrigan and Raynor which was such a shame, but we will always have SC1 at least.

      The UED wanted to unify humanity under their banner (''reclaim'' the colonies they themselves had originated) and counteract the alien threat represented by the Zerg and the Protoss. They were pro-humanity, and their invasion had a rather greyish moral tone, which made them somewhat sympathetic to some. Kerrigan was just a backstabbing, cunning strategist who seized the good occasions at the right time. She was absolutely crazy. Her victory in the Brood War is a rather bleak ending. Major human factions have suffered desicive defeats and the mighty Protoss empire has become but a shadow of its former self. The Zerg are completely unified under one banner, and the future remains uncertain.

    Then I used the remaining army + Whatever reinforcements I had built to take down Artanis, Making sure to attack from the south part of his base as I mined from DuGalle's old base. Be sure to bring plenty of Overlords because for some reason, the Dark Archons like to prioritize them for Mind control.
    After that I just attack Mengsk with air units like you see in the video. Thank to DuGualle's Base I have PLENTY of resources to do this with. While he is the most annoying of the 3, He isn't THAT big a threat as long as you pay attention to nukes and irradiation.

    I agree, the UED fleet under Admiral Dugalle was only an expeditionary force and NOT the entire collective fleet of the UED army. If you look into the history of Starcraft the earths population exceeded over 20 billion or so people so the UED sent all of its criminals and "undesirables' to all the outlying colonies of the Koprulu sector of the galaxy to colonize the planets there.

    They need to go back to this if Starcraft 3 or a spin-off is reality in the future. Hard to say though. The writing across all Blizzard games after 2008ish has just been subpar. I like to think Starcraft was Metzen's baby, probably the best game he's put together. Must have been some real shit hampering him with the sequel and that's why we got what we got.

    Actually SC2 did say humans perished before the Protoss, but that might only be in the Koprulu Sector. I mean, the Solar System is WAYYYYY too distant so the hybrids may not have reached Earth yet. In other words, humans in the Koprulu Sector might all have died but not the humans back on Earth. I think the UED will make an appearance.

    I can't say I completed Brood War. Because of this mission. Zerg mission 10 is so tough and no matter how many times I tried, I lost every single time. I was playing this 8 or 9 years ago and I'm not sure if I want to try and complete this level all these years later. Strangely enough, I don't remember having much trouble with mission 8, yet apparently that's the hardest of all the missions.

    The way I see it tge UED will not be Heart of The Swarm as a force like in Brood War. Instead I think they will at least be mentioned somewhat in the Campain. Its ny hope that in Heart of The Swarm Kerrigan does something such prepare an invasion of the Earth again that attracts the UEDS attention so that they return in vast numbers for the protoss expasion to fight tge Xel Naga. Kinda like poking a mountain lion to help fight a Grizzly Bear.

    I think Kerrigan stared being a joke after she was rescued in Char by Raynor, you know, before that happened she was a badass when she was under control of the Supermind, when she was rescued she kept on being the Queen of Blades, but she already thought by herself, it means like Kerrigan when she was a human , without the dark feelings.

    Well he DID allow a Terran Colony to be overrun by Zerg just to show his best buddy what the Zerg are like and then when his staff asked if they should intervene they abandoned BOTH some troops and the colony. Granted it was a small colony and a small company but still. Plus he was serving a Government that sought to Enslave the Zerg and use it to pacify both Protoss and Terran indifference to Earth interests. Even with good intentions such a Perogative is playing with Fire. Moral of the game.

    "Daggoth is dead, along with the rest of the cerebrates. Kerrigan is the sole power behind the Swarm now. Daggoth could not sustain himself without the Overmind and other cerebrates to power him. We’ve suggested before that the Overmind and its cerebrates were symbiotically linked. The cerebrates were not designed to exist without their creator. That’s a partial reason behind the cerebrates’ merging into a new, singular Overmind during the broodwar"

    If you claim that expansion to the south early on and build like 10 extra hatcheries (along with about 3 or 4 sunken colonies at each base entrance), just mass produce hydras and go in any direction. If you move quickly enough, the enemies will not have tech'd up with their support casters. I didn't have any problems with this one...I found mission 7 and 8 to be harder.

  • @Angraffe1
    @Angraffe1 11 лет назад +1

    Anyone with a deeper knowledge of the SC series, I need to make a thing or two clear:
    - I'm presuming that, when Artanis and his guys arrived at Char, they might have checked Zeratul's base on the surface and found Raszagal's body. Ok with that. It seems the protoss just didn't examined the body.
    - If contact between the protoss of Aiur and Shakuras was lost after Raynor screwed up the warp gate... how did Artanis got to know that Fenix died?

    • @afzofa107
      @afzofa107 7 лет назад +2

      All protoss (except for dark templar) are connected by the khala, a communication thing that lets the protoss communicate with their minds, they can speak telepathically too, and they can feel emotions. So as soon as Fenix died, Artanis sensed that Fenix wasnt there.

    They would only need 1 year in average to get to the Koprulu sector. The United Power Leage (predecessor of the UED) was watching their wayward colonies all the time, and when the zerg and protoss appeared, they reformed to the UED and send immediately their fleet. The time between SC 1 and SC: BW is said to be only one year, so the UED has a quick response time... if it wants to... and Blizzard wants them to play a role again...

    @IsArtanisAzn The zerg were always parasites that forcibly mutated their hosts. The Xel'Naga just made them bigger, tougher and smarter and then added in the Overmind to unite them in purpose. The Xel'Naga took traites that were already present in the species they tampered with and simply enhanced them.
