- How much meaning and power does a name hold? Can a chosen name become a curse or a blessing, or can it even represent a heavy burden of a legacy that needs to be carried forward? Elizabeth I and Elizabeth II are two of the most significant monarchs in British history - but do they share anything else besides their names?

The interesting thing is both Elizabeths did have a few things in common- both became queen at age 25 and both in the fifth decade of the century. Both, at the time of their death, were the oldest monarch to date. Of course Elizabeth Tudor’s age was eventually overtaken by George II. Both lived and reigned with their people’s love.
Elizabeth II was named after her mother and not after Elizabeth I. She was not expected to be Queen since her uncle was expected to have heirs so being a future monarch didn’t feature when her name was chosen
Clearly
Wasb't Elisabetz I's grandmother also named Elizabeth?
Were do they say ERII was named after ERI?
Yes we know
That is not possible! Only queens regnant can get I, II, III, etc and queen mother only was a queen consort, king george vi's wife!! Elizabeth II, got that name because England had had one queen regnant named Elizabeth I
@@tenabros5006 She was named Elizabeth before it was known she would be Queen. She chose to keep her name upon succession which made her the Elizabeth II
Elizabeth I was named after her grandmother, Elizabeth of York (Consort to Henry VII). Elizabeth of York herself was named after her own mother, Elizabeth Woodville (Consort to Edward IV). Both Elizabeth Woodville and Elizabeth of York were referred to as either 'Queen Elizabeth' or 'The Queen' during the respective reigns of their husbands. However, history tends to refer to Queen Consorts by their names or titles at birth, to distinguish them from Queen Regnants who might possibly share the same name.

Very enjoyable documentary. Thank you for telling this history so well. May I mention too, another Elizabeth - Norton who spoke in the documentary is an excellet author and I love all her books. She is a great historian. I highly recommend her books.
Enjoyed, ty. Cheers.
Elizabeth II was not named after Elizabeth I, as she was born Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, named after her mother (Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother), her great grandmother (Queen Alexandra - who died 6 months prior to her birth), and grandmother (Queen Mary - who died just a few weeks prior to her coronation in 1953), respectively.
The makers did not say Elizabeth II was named for Elizabeth I.
Although by age 20, it was becoming increasingly likely both women would become queen.

@@tenabros5006 Yes. But the second Elizabeth was given the name Elizabeth because her mother was Elizabeth. She was not named after Elizabeth Tudor, the first Queen Elizabeth.
@@brontewcat well, that is obvious that Elizabeth II got that name for her mother! But she got the II for the previous regnant queen Elizabeth I! Not because her mother was queen consort Elizabeth!
@@tenabros5006 Yes, but the original poster to this thread did not say she was called Elizabeth II because of her mother’s name. I think you misunderstood the comment.
Likewise I think the original poster thought the video was implying or said she was named for Elizabeth Tudor. That wasn’t said either.
More please
In the season of reign she starts having horrible nightmares of her mother been executed over and over again and again
My middle name is Elizabeth and my daughter’s middle name is also Elizabeth
Why is everyone saying that Elizabeth II was named after her mother the queen mother?? That is not possible! because she wasn't 2nd when she was born? In fact she wasn't even expected to be a monarch. She was named after her mother, so she could very well have been Queen Gladys 1st, if her mother had been named Gladys.
@@hogwashmcturnip8930 she got the name 'Elizabeth' for her mother, i understand that, but the got the '2nd' because of the previous regnant queen Elizabeth I
