One of the absolute coldest kills I've ever seen. Went beyond using an opponent's strengths against them to making then actualIy take their own life. I loved this anime.
If she hadn't before then, she definitely resolved to destroy Aura at around 0:42 when she saw the soldier's necklace and realized whose body that was.
I almost thought it was cruel until I realized that aura did that to all of the beheaded soldiers in her army. That's why their bodies are not too damaged, but their heads are completely missing.
Greatest trick of all time is to fool your enemies by concealing your hidden power for thousand years without revealing or not letting them know how powerful you are
I love demons in this anime, often I see ones where enemies have relatability and so on, or specifically demons are not so different from humans and so on. It's just refreshing to get a type of demon that is actually what they say it is in the anime. It is not a person, it does not feel as we do, it learnt language and mimics people only as a means to fool, and manipulate it's prey, they don't have family, they don't have friends, they are not mindless, they simply are incapable of feeling emotion, and without that, are incapable of sympathy for anything, even their own race. Even the one singular demon in the series who earnestly tried to learn emotions and understand them, merely scoffs about how he and his own race are truly monsters and incapable of it all at the moment of his death, even thinking his own time among humans attempting to learn was a waste in the end.
True. And we got cringe twitter bots calling it racist that demons are depicted as “horrible people”. Like the point of the demons in this show is that they don’t think like us. They might as well be aliens in behavior and views. The only reason people are salty is because the demons look like humans. If they looked like dudes straight out of Doom, there would be a significantly less amount of outrage.
I wonder if there is a sustainable way that demons, and humans can coexist without being hostile to each other. In the story, the closest thing is demon king, and Macht. But both of them seems to spiral out into war for demon king, and golden city for Macht. We don't know the motivation behind demon king, but we do know for Macht. He is driven by curiosity, and ended up following human orders just to learn about them. But after everything he experience, he still failed to understand empathy We do know that demon do have emotion (mainly fear), but they failed to extend / project their own feeling to others. They acted on a principle based on solo survival, but not as a group. They only huddle together if their goal is aligned, and will ditch their comrade if need be. Frieren think that coexisting is impossible, and all demons must be eradicated. But is that true? I can draw some similarity between demons, and humans to a dazzle of zebras, and a herd of horses. Horse have sense of hierarchy, and will follows their herd leader. So if human captured the leader, their herd will follows. This is not the case for zebras, where if human were to captured a zebra. Likely none of the dazzle will follows. This is the reason why horse can be domesticated (tamed, and integrated into human society), but zebras cannot. However, like zebras in a zoo, it can be tamed but only at individual level. So in this case Macht is like a tamed zebra, and there maybe a way to coexist peacefully, albeit it may only be applicable to a small sub-population
You know, this is one of the darkest scenes I’ve ever watched in anime. I think the impact is all the more because this show so often feels light hearted.
it's a light hearted show, that has like, the darkest background ever. like yes, dainty elf girl who acts childlike and needs a human to function. but also: Genocide of the Elves. This entire arc. The fact that Frieren could probably kill every single person they've met so far, outside of maybe the old elf lady. Demons in general
That exact scene is what killed bleach for me many years ago. But this show sets it up beautifully, you're not blindsided by it. It doesnt feel like a stupid cop out you know its coming for at least a full episode and you just cant wait for it to finally happen.

when you kill someone that strong, theirs always the annoying chance they have a trick to allow them to survive to crawl away. if you tell them to kill themselves when they must obey, they can have no trick
@garnorix Aura feels fear of death sure, because she doesn't wish to die, but she feels no empathy. It's like a lion fearing fire and avoiding it to keep from feeling pain.
That's not karma. Karma would be that Aura feels death hundreds of times. She barely was "dishonoured" for five seconds and she disappeared. Not feeling anything anymore. Where is the karma equilibrium here?
I love how lowly she thinks of demons. They aren't even worth a fair fight. Like previously when the executioner pleaded for his life, she didn't hesitate either.

@@philledwith8307 yes it does, maybe because they see her as a goddess and humans as weak she doesn't bother after the death of the demon king and only was involved on behalf of the elves idk
Could also be that the scale prevents you from using any magic for a period of time or something and that was why she drew a sword to use. And if she uses it in a group setting, she'd be able to control one person but then others could easily kill her cause she couldn't use any more magic. All head canon/speculation of course.

Which weighs the balance, if aura is placing her soul to the scale and the enemy, it determines who is much stronger quality thus the individual gains the control and orders them like a puppet. Just like what happened to those soldiers that are only left to armor. Frieren's Mana was low because she was hiding it even though it was very long time she kept suppressing mana to trick Aura by viewing her mana as very low compare to aura's mana just as demons use words to trick humans, so Frieren did the same by tricking them on a fake Mana capacity. Therefore Frieren gain the control cause of aura's weighing scale and ordered her to kill herself. Since the demons love using their power to control the weak, they take immense and extreme pleasure in humiliating the weak but hate being humiliated themselves so for someone like Aura who uses a spell to control people to get turned against her and have kill her is basically one of the biggest humiliations by demon logic.
Wouldn’t this technically not have killed her and broken the spell since the heart has to be taken out to kill a demon in this universe? As such the whole army would be disbanded since she wouldn’t be able to control them but would aura be forever stuck as a dulahan?

@@marcinkochan441 You can start reading on Chapter 95 (Frieren vs Solitar)
I feel the cuts ruined the amazing pacing of this episode but maybe it's because of copyright issues or whatever
"I've taken lives. I got worse. I got clever. Manipulated people into taking their own."
What would have driven the point more is when the scales tipped, it broke the scale and hit the ground like a fucking bullet.
Since the demons love using their power to control the weak, they take immense and extreme pleasure in humiliating the weak but hate being humiliated themselves so for someone like Aura who uses a spell to control people to get turned against her and have kill her is basically one of the biggest humiliations by demon logic.
I still dont think she went full power on the mana flow. It may be an agenda but i think she was only at like... half chub
Knowing key sentences were cut from this meeting, makes this edit trash.
Which chapter in the manga ?
Is it just me or is this anime's music reminding me of the "How to Train Your Dragon" sound track
All Aura had to do was not mention Himmel and just walk away.
Wouldn’t this technically not have killed her and broken the spell since the heart has to be taken out to kill a demon in this universe? As such the whole army would be disbanded since she wouldn’t be able to control them but would aura be forever stuck as a dulahan?
Frieren had no respect for her.her magic, her race, or her actions. Didn't even want the disgrace of ending her.
Ah, yes! The moment that made me quit the anime.
There is no way I'm going to keep watching an anime where such a great design is wasted.
guess ill rewatch this. such a fire anime
