Dropping a GoPro Into a Desert Canal! (INSANE)

  • We dropped a GoPro into a canal in the middle of the desert! This canal is crystal clear and is full of fish! Arizona is full of all sorts of canals, a lot of which go through very rural parts of the state.
This one happens to be full of a ton of different fish species. I used my gopro hero 8 which is waterproof to see the action underwater. The footage pretty much came out flawless and crystal clear!
I hope yall enjoyed this underwater desert canal footage!

If you use as light of line as possible (that you’re comfortable with) and instead of having the tension on your reel after you set the bail. Use your finger tip on the line just past the bail you’ll feel the slightest touch. Works with any fish in salt or freshwater. Doesn’t work with a lure, but any type of baited rig it works great. The only drawback is if it’s cold. Your finger can get really cold, but using different fingers or the hand helps let you warm up your pointing finger. Takes time to get used to the awkwardness, but once you do you’ll get those light biters. I learnt this when I was taught how to tight line for salmon in the rivers. Hope this helps with the light take’s brother. I watched another video of you using a lure. Instead of having your pointing finger on you fishing rod. Let it hand down towards your reel and put a little tension on the line with your finger. I’m not good at explaining things, but I do hope you understand.

The spots you stopped are super pressured. We fish the middle sections between the bridges and catch much nicer fish than the bridges produce. In that section you fished we've caught large and small mouth, tilapia, stripper, channel and flathead catfish. There is a ton of carp but we don't fish for them. The biggest channel cat was 7lbs.

That is how we usually do it. My daughter loves fishing the canal so we hit it often during the warmer months. Where this canal comes off the main canal we counted at least 300 carp, the canal is super clean and the water was crystal clear. They did drain sections of it this winter and I could smell rotting fish so hopefully some of the good size fish were saved.

I lived in Parker, AZ back in the late 80s early 90's in high school and in winter I'd go sit on the bank of the river with a can of corn and a can of store brand biscuits. And just fish for carp cause they're huge and they'll put up a good fight. I'd just release them back and one day a game & fish warden saw me, and asked what I was fishing for I told him I'm just fishing carp catch and release.. he said, don't release them, they're tearing up the river, over populating and pushing out the bass. He said just kill them and send them down the river. So that's what we did. But they are fun to catch. You can literally catch them on a corn dog. ha

Loooks like phoenix Az....to me. ....but maybe Calif.....because Az put more carp in the canals than bass. Fish get hungry in canals because there is a shortage of things to eat. I recall years ago a woman was murdered on a bike trail next to a canal in North Phx. I knew a guy who used to fish the canals there and one day a ball popped up right in front of him, and rolled over to freak him out as it was that girls head ! The police were looking for the killer, but I DON'T believe he was ever caught. There was a Danny's right near this location and It's rumored employees hear a skinny tan guy 9n a bike talking to himself that he cut off THAT girls head, then said did you hear me say that ??......but the employees DIDN'T tell the police , even though at least 4 heard him say it. The guy split on his bike, and never came back. That guy never fished there after that incident. I believe this happened in the 90's.

Your videos are fantastic. You may get more bites with a small wire mosquito hook with those little minnows and worms with that size of fish.

Its illegal to sink trees for structure in Arizona? Really? I guess you better make sure no one sees you do it then.

Well, your video taught me something. Don’t bother fishing in that canal. All I see is minnows.
