I’ve been a fan of the 5 series since the E39 and have owned several. I’d enjoy the i5 except missing the physical controls for the climate, etc. Your adjusting the driving assistance distance through a mass of menus is a case in point.I think I’d tire of the fake noises after a day or 2 and turn it off. I also would want more range. I could do 500 miles on the highway with my M550i!
@@zahf6484 Sounds definitely like someone who doesn't know about either. Tesla may be an EV car, but it lacks luxury features like quiet interior, quiet road noise, luxury builds and etc. I own a Tesla and the road noise is BAD. Tesla barely uses any sound insulation
This looks like a way better proposition than a Tesla. Interior is actually nice and not rudimentary and the acceleration noises sound pretty cool too. I’m still an ICE purist, but this looks way more fun to drive than a Tesla.
Topher i have a question. how does the ride comfort, cabin noise, and build quality compare to the Tesla model s. im sure it's better but how much better is it.
Interesting, I have ordered one and will also use it as a vehicle for long distance driving. I assume that the charging network in the US requires a larger battery.
The looks are really growing on me. I don't think anything can top the LCI G30, but they did a really good job making the design language fit with the rest of the lineup while still retaining the signature 5-Series silhouette.
I'm disappointed that the M Sport stitched airbag cover is gone. That always added some class to the steering wheel. In general, I don't know how to feel about this new 5er. It is not as attractive as the outgoing model, in my opinion, but the packaging seems better. It seems roomier. I'd have to see how it feels behind the wheel. Even then, there are loads of CPO 5-series on the market...
Does anyone know if the EV BMW's handle as well as their gasoline brother and sisters? I know all EVs feel good with low centre of gravity but i know it doesn't mean great handling around bends because of tires etc etc
Love the car, hate the maze of an interface. When a car has this many functions, any often used function you take away from the screen (like the AC controls) would benefit the overall UX greatly. Just below the hazard lights button is a perfect place for it. Already looks odd and wasted as it is anyway.
I really like the design of the interior, but it seems like there is cheap plastic absolutely everywhere, especially on the center console. Even the current-gen 3er can be optioned with a leather-stitched steering wheel cover and leatherette stitched dashboard (plus, it has wood or aluminum on the center console STANDARD). Really a huge disappointment after seeing how beautiful the interior was on the new 7er. I am glad to see that the exterior is not absolutely hideous and the driving dynamics finally seem to have returned to a good level. This still seems like a fantastic car, maybe my expectations were just set high because of how amazing and class-leading the i4 and the i7 were. This definitely doesn't seem to be at the same level.
I think that's an artifact of the recording device being translated through youtube fwiw. I had a loaner i4 last month and it was really quiet at speed. I can't imagine the i5, a more luxurious car, would be louder than that. The iX is the king of quiet, at 100 MPH it's whisper quiet.
Nice interior but losing $35-40k to depreciation over 5 years (and another $15-20k to interest) isn't worth it IMO (most BMWs lose more than 50% of there value over 5 years), I'll stick with something that holds its value.
BMW has the worst resale value of any brand. Other vehicles retain 60-75% of their value after 5 years versus 50% for the BMW. In the case of the C8, they are still selling over MSRP 4-5 years later (you drove it nearly for free).@@ps2cho
80k car for 335 horsepower lol and no AWD. Long range Model S is 75k for double the power, speed and 100 miles more range with better charging and space.
Except Tesla notoriously under-delivers EPA range estimates massively on highway range and the German companies over-deliver, so it’s probably a wash, not to mention I’m not road tripping every day. I’d personally rather not drive a car design that hasn’t been meaningfully updated since 2012.

couldn't bmw be bothered to integrate the stupid dashboard screen into the dash itself? also give me physical buttons, not menus upon menus behind a glass pane. the back of the car looks boxy as hell, and the car, in general, has lots of sharp edges and angular protrusions making it look crumpled and pseudo futuristic. they're trying to channel tesla so hard, which i don't understand. and that fake engine sound? e-cars suck. /rant
I fully agree with your rant lol. I feel like a lot of EV try to mimic a combustion engine car and that makes it worse. If it is an EV, just fully embrace it and don’t try to be anything else
I really like the interior of the car....very modern & colorful....

you are right
If you are getting 800 kilometers out of a 550i, you are driving really slow.
See if I were to buy an EV it’d be this. Not a Tesla
Why? To save money on gas on your brand new $80k car? If you want a BMW, buy a real BMW. If you want an EV, buy a Tesla. Not complicated.

Wow those colours. I didn’t know South Carolina could look like this.

This is my attainable dream car. Wife has an i4 and just need it to be slightly bigger. Looks like the i5 is it.
This is how you build a car Americans, take notice, not a inch of cheap plastic or hollow sounding doors. European cars are premium
That’s a beautiful road!
I currently have a model 3 LR and a model Y LR. I’ll be buying one of these next
Did you get one yet?

I actually got to drive that at an auto show. It does drive really good, everything is responsive. It's close to the top of my EV list.

Also, in my IS 500, the following distance control has its own button. It would be super annoying to have to navigate a menu to change it.
Menus for everything is one of the worst trends in the auto industry right now. Basically nothing is ergonomically anymore.
I prefer the exterior of the old gen and the interior of the new gen
“Out here in South Carolina, these roads are pretty nice and smooth” if that ain’t the biggest lie 😂
They look FWD
What's the manufacturer name of interior color?
Wait, its made in SC? Any chance it gets a fed rebate?
Another good leaser. Still too rich for me. I’m too practical.
Compare the Xiaomi SU7 interior to this. When did the Chinese start making a better interior than BMW?
80k and you dont even get the steering wheel airbag in leather anymore. come on bmw.
It’s crazy that Sixt rent it for just 800 per month
Does this model have a heated steering wheel?
Seems like there's less and less room in the new BMWs. Sorry, I'm stuck in the 90s and EARLY 2000s. Nothing like the E46 and the W140.
There must be a way to customize the car to stay on when getting out
I don’t think there’s a way to keep it on when you open the door. I have tried to look in my i4 and it’s very annoying lol
Have you driven this compared to the m60? Power seems a bit down compared to other EVs.
Yeah this version isn’t the best, the M60 is one hell of an awesome car though, I can’t wait to see him review that one
