    When you take screws out of a laptop, do not pile them up in one place. Use a magnetic mat or a piece of paper and clearly mark where the screws are taken from, this way it makes the job much easier when you put them back. You noticed not all the screws are the same size or length. Putting the screws back to the wrong place can tare into ribbon cable or damage the keyboard or motherboard if you are not careful.

    Great video! This worked perfectly for me to upgrade my ram. I didn't disconnect the keyboard ribbon - just flipped up the keyboard to pull the screws. Thank you so much for making this easy for me! 👍

    Excellent video. Thank you. I have to say - HORRIBLE design by Dell to force people to basically take apart their laptop just to upgrade memory. Just bad.

      @cutemimi25 6 лет назад +15

      Not all their laptops have this problem the 15 5000 like the one I'm currently using they have a compartment where you can install the Ram without having to take apart the whole laptop, same with the hard drive.

    First, this is an excellent video! With that in mind. here is a caveat for those who are doing this themselves. It took me about 45 minutes (she does it in eight!). My major problem was the keyboard. It didn't just pop right out. but instead took some serious wrangling, and I bent it in the process. It was quite frustrating. Then when it's time to reconnect the keyboard ribbon, there is a clip you need to make sure is clipped down that secures the ribbon. I didn't see it and my keyboard wouldn't work. Once I figured it out it was smooth sailing. With those problems in mind, this isn't a hard job, just a little nerve wracking if you're a novice like me.

    Nice video - thank you for posting it. However, for the life of me, I don't understand why manufacturers don't use the old school flap with one screw to change memory and the hard drive. Taking various laptops apart can really drive you crazy and wreck your nerves. Often, the case doesn't come apart very easily and you end up using a spudging tool (or a guitar pick) and hoping you don't snap something. There has to be an easier way that doesn't increase cost and facilitates typical upgrades. Ben Price - San Antonio

      Exactly. I just wanted to write about sata connector of a DVD drive exactly in this model. I also did destroyed wire ribbon while opening back panel. I did not expect that sata connector will be on a panel but not on the mainboard side. You cannot imagine how much problem it did for me. Oooh. I can't imagine where i can find a new one, moreover it was a client's laptop, not mine.
      So in this video no any attention to the wire ribbon of the DVD drive
      What did you do with it?

  • @MahyarAccount
    @MahyarAccount 5 лет назад +6

    For those who cannot pull the DVD drive out use this trick: turn the laptop upside down. Make sure the battery is pulled out. In the battery's place there is a rectangular hole next to the "ODD RV" text where you can see part of the silver DVD drive. Push the DVD drive out using a screw driver or whatever. That won't break anything if all the screws are pulled out.

    I have spent 4 decades reading schematics for diagnostics & repair, but on vehicles. My Dell A/C adaptor detects a short and GRN LED goes out, two good adaptors, battery out, same problem on this 3 year old unit.
    Now my question; I have a Dell Inspiron 15, series 3000. The info behind the RAM shows "Cedar AMD-MB 13283-1. Now, most numbers show an additional 4 digits, like 5632 then my 3283. Where do I find the correct numbers? Where do I go to find the diagnostics, flow chart and schematics once I have the correct #'s for this dead Dell?
    Retired against my will, just had 10 screws & two bars in my lumbar the July 2020. Surprise! Life is hard on body parts, nerves, rotator cuff, elbows... I just worked hard to keep my family happy and give them childhood memories and did. We spend most of our life getting things, but the last part, selling or giving it or children and grandchildren. I just got my first phone in 11 years turned on in June. Yes, 11 years, no smart phone or any kind. Just use my (# 3 of 5 dead laptops/ included Mac Air) to pay bills & get parts. I fix our stuff... Hopefully, I can add laptop to that list. Thanks, Liked, Subscribed & Blessings.

    Thanks for share this video is great 👍 Oh yeah for this laptop model upgrade memory is not so easy, but the price is good based on features again others more expensive models. I did the RAM upgrade + hard drive replacement by HD solid and the result was great, good performance and low cost

      @@aldodifilippo1713 tengo la misma duda, en la pagina de dell.com dice que la cantidad maxima soportada son 8gb, pero en otros sitios y videos dicen que soporta 16gb pero la verdad que nadie lo ha demostrado que soporte eso tu podrias demostrar en un video que soporta mas de 8gb?

    Well done, keep the music, don't listen to these idiots who don't do this stuff for a living.
    Some of us get sick and tired of having to select music to replace the boring silence, coughing, and lack of music in most of these disassembly videos.
    Even though I've been doing this for nearly 20 years, I like to watch these videos before I crack open a machine, in order to avoid any possible snags or pitfalls that often accompany working with expensive technology that doesn't belong to you.
    Thanks!!!

      they want to make it diffcult to upgrade
      people who buy this laptop does not have money enough
      so the usually upgrade and improve their laptop instead of buying a new one
      and of course dell don't want that

    May i knwo the exact model of the ram so i can easily look for it without opening yet the laptop?

      It uses a 260 pin DDR4 @ 2666Mhz. Make sure that you don't get a 288 pin which is for a desktop. Max RAM is 16GB with 2 slots. Brand doesn't make much of a difference. It's OK to mix and match. I added 8GB RAM along with the OEM 4GB for a total of 12GB with no problem.

      Interesting, before I opened it up all online documentation stated this laptop had 1 DDR3 slot. Now that I've opened it I see where it says ddr4 B. Got to love the online documentation

      Why? do you want to play heavy games on that laptop?
      Maybe your Dell laptop has good dedicated gpu but it's design really ruins the experience.
      That heat will destroy your battery and ic.
      Mine shut down automatically after 30 to 45 min due to high temperature, if I play games like rise of the tomb raider.
      Buy PC for gaming.

    Thanks for the video. I was able to successfully add the RAM. But somehow my DVD drive does not fit back in. I tried to push it hard, still no luck. But in the video it just slides in smoothly. Am I missing something while pushing the dvd back in place?

    I thought I had to go through what you did until all I had to do for my model was unscrew one screw from the bottom and remove this plastic piece and the hard drive, RAM, and WiFi card is under there.

    Hi wannisa. Thanks for the upload. ❤️
    Can you please tell me from where did you got this screw driver that's suitable for all of the screws as I know that the one i.e. in the middle is very small and inside as compared to the rest.
    P.S. If you bought it online, then please do share the item link. As i can't find a single screw driver able to remove all the screws.
    Thanks again.

    Why do you have to remove the keyboard the screws underneath it to remove the bottom panel of the laptop? I need to replace my drive.
    It would be SO HELPFUL to tell people why the keyboard needs to be taken out.

    • @unebonnevie
      @unebonnevie 6 лет назад +1

      The video ruclips.net/video/AAqP9nxZa8I/видео.html tells you why you have to remove the keyboard, because there are screws underneath the keyboard that screws INTO the bottom panel of the laptop!
