This is the 1st time I'm seeing a comparison video like this. It makes it so easy to see all the differences. Thanks so much for putting the work into this. Subscribed!
Thanks for the updates. I love the new twin power domes on the hood and the new steering wheel but I prefer the trapezoid tailpipes tips. Still waiting for the video of the updates on the E-class coupe.
It would be super-awesome to see a Mercedes Benz S53e AMG since the in-line straight six is the new craze and the S560e is coming to market pretty soon, a full hybrid AMG version of that unit would be a super-awesome option... The Porsche Turbo S has shown that it is both practical and possible.
I prefer the round tail pipes on the E53, than on the E43. But I still think the exhaust tone on the Lexus GS F has a better tone, since it is a V8. But hands down, Mercedes has the best interior in the industry. Now if Mercedes can improve their reliability ranking close to Lexus, then one would have the "perfect car".
Great looking car, still can't figure out if the engine is twin turbo. My understand is just like the CLS 53 this will be a single turbo with the electric motor acting as the second turbo. Not big on the new exhaust, definitely like the S63, CLS 63 exhaust better. Will have to drive this car to make a decision, I am looking at the S63 coupe and thought this might be a less expensive option but this engine seems pretty weak for an AMG. I would have to say Mercedes is designing the best looking interiors in the automobile business. We have a 650i Gran Coupe and just ordered a Maserati Quattroporte which are beautiful cars but neither holds a candle to the new Mercedes interiors. Keep up the great work on the videos, these are great and really informative.
Since this is inline-6 cylinder engine, and it's not V-shaped 3 x 3 - there is no reason for a twin-turbo. So it uses very advanced twin-scroll single turbocharger (don't mistake with Twin-Turbo) and apparently this system is a lot more reliable, since there is much less of moving parts. EQ booster is purely electrical, so I wouldn't call it a turbo-charger.
If you were to continue to analogize the 'EQ' to a turbo, I would consider it an, 'anti-lag' turbo system. However, it is much more than that as it's designed to increase overall system efficiency regarding any parasitic drag coupled to the power plant (water pump, accessories, etc...). My primary concern is the reliability of said motor mounted into the transmission. If/when it konks out, it'll be a pretty penny to replace, but if it's 250k miles before it goes then I'll be okay with that since I'll have long since rid myself of the car. It makes me kinda excited for when they start deploying PHEV set-ups for market.
previous tailpipes were really a miss to me. like the new ones or anything else for that matter. round pipes seems to look like BMW however... The best tailpipes are from S63, GT4 and E63 (non-S version)
E43 tailpipes are much meaner looking and fit the vehicle much better. Any plans on doing an update on e400 v 2019 e450? That's the one I'm waiting for.
I made a little video about E-Class changes back in March and shown some info on changes between E400 and E450, but I'm planning to make another more detailed video when it gets closer to the release date. You can see it here: bit.ly/2019-E
You really did a great job with this Video! got a question, maybe you can help me there, it's about the new exhaust with Button to control, is it optional or in series for E53? And why aren't there these new fancy Cooling Fans? I'm asking because i'm going to Order the E53 in 2 weeks and if these things are optional I'll have to tell my dealer so he puts them on as well
AMG Performance exhaust system is now available on E53 as an option, so you have to add it on. I'm not sure what fancy Cooling Fans you're referring to. If you're asking about A/C air vents, I don't think there are different options.
I have an 2018 E43 - Very Nice car! I am swapping for an e220D next week as my winter car - I am seriously considering the E53 when I am taking my summer car in april. The experience in the E43 as been awesome! I like that they are changing the looks of the pipes - Then you can see it is a new car!
I prefer the round ones looks wise except they are too Audi so I actually prefer the originals. On a separate subject. When will the E class get MBUX and will the All Terrain get the straight six diesel....have they sold enough to keep going with the model ?!
I also have mixed feeling about round tail tips. I really like their clean look... but at the same time it lost some AMG signature trapezoids style, which is known for years. However hand-assembled E63 will still have trapezoid exhaust tips. As far as MBUX, MB develops technology faster than they can develop cars, so I think by 2020 you'll start see it implemented. And with all the commotion about the diesel engines in last 2 years - they're not even available for sale in U.S. for the time being...
MBZ Master Thanks. Im specifically interested in the Media function when an iPhone is connected via Bluetooth. The current NTG5.5 or whatever it is works ‘ok’ in the E class but the search/navigating podcasts and audiobooks is a real pain as you seem to have to start from the beginning the whole time rather than where you last navigated to
Round tail pipes are boring. I personally love the new look of the steering wheel. Straight six? I know, there are tons of arguments supporting them. Very smooth but...gimme a V layout over it any day.
There's a reason why V-shaped engines are so widely used these days. But the major benefit is it's compactness so it can be easily fit in tight spaces, plus it's natural rigidity based on it's form. However I-shaped engines need twice less parts, much simpler design and a lot easier to service and access on the long run. Engineers are split 50/50 on which is better..
any idea what new type of chock absorbers are implemented for ride control (gas, oil or air) ?? The pics all look sweet until you realise that stock E-class seats are genuine plastic and sport wheels frequently break or warp, so don't skip warrenty coverage.
nooooooooooooooooooooooo! I want the e53 but i already ordered my e43!....i love the new steering wheel, they added the amg performance exhaust as an option and those round exhaust tips...fuck!!
I'm Sorry to say but Mercedes let themselves down with the Twin Round Pipes...Mercedes Benz AMG has Always Set themselves Apart from All other Manufacturers by The UNQUIE Design of its Quad Exhaust Pipes!..The New Round Pipes on the New E53 looks like any other car with Twin Round Pipes,.BMW AUDI VW,All of which have round twin Pipes in their Sport Versios!.Many Manufacturers Have Copied Mercedes in their Design and have Recreated Quad Pipes on Their Sport Cars Based On Mercedes Benz AMG,..I Was PERSONALLY Disappointed with the Round Pipes on the New E53 so I Therefore Exchanged/Upgraded them with the E63 Silver Quad Pipes,.factory fitted of Course,..when I had Ordered My New Car from Mercedes Benz..And Now I Am So Happy and Content with My E53 AMG Silver Original Quad Pipes..
They are not fake, the're artistically designed tail tips. The same applies to any current AMG trapezoid tips and any tail tips you see anywhere else. Because the regular tailpipe ends just look ugly..
so these are "artistically designed" to look exactly like conventional twin exhaust tips? My other cars have real exhaust tips 9they are the tip of the exhausts) so I'll stick with "fake" in this case.
I'm not sure I understand your question: there are tailpipes ... and there are tail tips. Tail tips cover the end of tailpipes. So I'm not sure when you say "fake", what are you referring to?
MBZ Master no question really. An observation that the tailpipes are purely cosmetic. Not connected to the exhaust pipes at all. Purely cosmetic to create the illusion of an exotic exhaust system? Common practise I agree but I’m old school and for a serious drivers car (AMG?) I’d much prefer real tails pipes as the finishing treatment to the exhaust system. Just an opinion. Am I alone?
I really hate these new steering wheels which are appearing across the entire range. As a long time Mercedes buyer they are a deal breaker for me and unless an option for a real steering wheel is available then I will no longer buy a new Merc. They're cumbersome and distracting. I have no interest in all the fancy infotainment and ridiculous set up options on the fly, I just want a great car that's simple to drive and enjoy. These new Mercs don't fit the bill anymore!
I take your point about technical evolution but you miss my point that the steering wheel on the new Mercs is pig ugly! Other manufacturers have integrated these new features far more aesthetically. Personally, I don't like to play with the set up once I'm driving in a city like London and even out of town I rarely need to change things so touch pads on the wheel are a waste of time to me. Some people may like to constantly mess with the settings but I'd like to see an option for a more basic 3 spoke wheel. As for factory fit sat navs at exorbitant cost that don't update, well that's another subject.
This is the 1st time I'm seeing a comparison video like this. It makes it so easy to see all the differences. Thanks so much for putting the work into this. Subscribed!
Exhaust round tailpipe Looks a lot better than the previous E 43
Thanks for the updates. I love the new twin power domes on the hood and the new steering wheel but I prefer the trapezoid tailpipes tips. Still waiting for the video of the updates on the E-class coupe.

I like the new steering wheel they have
I like the new tips.
A compare video between E63 and E53 would be nice
I like the round tips more

I was serching for a long time for content like that. Really good job, make more compare videos!
I like the E53 pipes the most. Minds me of C/E/CLS63 6,2L
Great looking car, still can't figure out if the engine is twin turbo. My understand is just like the CLS 53 this will be a single turbo with the electric motor acting as the second turbo. Anyone know what is happening with the e63? I assume it just has'nt been shown to the public yet?
2019 E63 basically stays the same. You can read more and watch video here: bit.ly/2019-E
I like both exhaust pipes but I suppose MB had to change a few things to distinguish the 53 from the 43
And also distinguish from 63 model...
MBZ Master Agreed
Love these what’s new videos. I think the circular pipes look nice. I have no issues with the changes that they made.
previous tailpipes were really a miss to me. like the new ones or anything else for that matter. round pipes seems to look like BMW however... The best tailpipes are from S63, GT4 and E63 (non-S version)
Yes, the new round twins look very sharp... but at the same time it's not immediately recognized as AMG, like in E63 model..
E43 tailpipes are much meaner looking and fit the vehicle much better. Any plans on doing an update on e400 v 2019 e450? That's the one I'm waiting for.

MBZ Master I see, well I'll definitely add the optional Exhaust then, thanks for your help
If you live in Europe you don't get it as it is unfortunately not allowed anymore... No extra exhaust button that is...
Lars Krull give me your e43
I prefer the round ones looks wise except they are too Audi so I actually prefer the originals. On a separate subject. When will the E class get MBUX and will the All Terrain get the straight six diesel....have they sold enough to keep going with the model ?!

MBZ Master thanks for the quick reply. I’m in the UK but I like your videos on detailed model changes. Thanks
Do you know if it will be possible to get a full MBUX operators manual online soon ? Thanks
I'm planning to make a tutorial video sometime in the future after it's released
MBZ Master Thanks. Im specifically interested in the Media function when an iPhone is connected via Bluetooth. I love everything about this, want want want the wagon. All i need now is $
Most definitely the E43 Exhaust ..
Round tail pipes are boring. I personally love the new look of the steering wheel. Straight six? I know, there are tons of arguments supporting them. Very smooth but...gimme a V layout over it any day.

PjG
You can play way more with inline engines.
The round tips are much better. Thank God they changed them.
I prefer the E43 trapezoid pipes.
Likewise
any idea what new type of chock absorbers are implemented for ride control (gas, oil or air) ??
The pics all look sweet until you realise that stock E-class seats are genuine plastic and sport wheels frequently break or warp, so don't skip warrenty coverage.
I prefer the E43 trapezoid
Round quad tips look baaaaaad! So prefer, no comparison.
Round tips in black.
No doubt. The 43 trapezoid exhaust is more tech design. Revivalisms don't go with this car
"Revivalism" is an interesting word... Did you mean "Classic"?
nooooooooooooooooooooooo! I want the e53 but i already ordered my e43!....i love the new steering wheel, they added the amg performance exhaust as an option and those round exhaust tips...fuck!!
It's OK to get your deposit back... or keep it and re-order E53, shouldn't be any problem..

I got the night pack do mine are black like the car, look awesome!
Round tip tailpipes are WAY BETTER.
I like both...but I prefer the previous E 43

Ever heard of Dacia?
Ever heard of Porsche !!
Steve Payne apparently I drove a cayenne a few days ago and it's got some technical evolution as well. So, bad argument.
I take your point about technical evolution but you miss my point that the steering wheel on the new Mercs is pig ugly!

Steve Payne
Then don’t get the E53. Get E400 or E300. They are also releasing a E450.
:)
old exhaust way better
