Surely you have the fans on the wrong end of the GPU's. The GPU fans blow air into the heatsink and out through the GPU end grill (Same end as the DP/HDMI connectors). You are then blowing back all that hot air from each GPU back over the rig by having the fans on that end of the GPU. The rig Fans must go on the other end of the rig to blow cool air over the rig and help the flow of the exhaust air from each GPU to be blown away from the rig.
My wife uses my twin 6 card rigs as a washing drier, she places her washing on a washing stand and lets the hot air blow onto the washing. This saves extra power of her not using the tumble drier, saving even more money!!!
Nice vid though, look forward to seeing you get 12 or 13 GPU's running on this MoBo.

You power the pcie riser wrongfully. Sata only provides 4.5A per line, times 12V, produces up to 54 watts, much less than the 75 watts pcie power consumption. You need to double the sata connection using a dual-sata to 6pin cable, which provides up to 108 watts power more than the pcie demand.

Steve the only thing that isn't clear is how much money this rig has made you month to month or day by day in either USD/CAD/Euro etc minus the cost of the electricity because in the end making money is the goal and all the work you've put into this could be not only your downfall but others too. Thank you for your video regardless! A lot of work in the filming and putting the rig together.

    • @TahoeSteve
      @TahoeSteve  4 года назад +2

Several factors at play here. All my rigs are paid for because I have been mining (and trading) for so long. I DON'T look at it as $/day because I'm LONG on Block Chain and I am accruing an asset. Even if my electricity bill is higher than the $$ I make mining for a particular day, I don't worry about it. I'm getting paid in crypto currency and I am trading that currency regularly like a stock. I sell lightly on the way up and buy more on the dips. With the violent swings in crypto, it's pretty easy to make money even in a sideways market. You just have to patient and not panic. Here is a link to a video on making money in a sideways crypto market ruclips.net/video/VbHUnPKPsWw/видео.html

When you put the slider nut in you were supposed to do it before assembling the frame so as to turn it 90 degrees to the slot. That would lock it down and prevent it lifting out of the slot.

Dear Tahoe Steve, I built a very sexy mining rig off of your video and Amazon links. Thank you! Very informative. I think I watched your video over and over about 10 times. However it’s built and works like a normal computer but I can’t get my six GPUs to benchmark. On NiceHash it just shows ‘error’ after trying to benchmark each GPU. What do you recommend? I am using Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070’s. Glad of your comments! Thanks!

I would like ask you two quick questions please.
1- If I schedule to extend this mining ring building to the double for example, say for 16 GPUs. The connection will be with a second motherboard ? and How about the connection with its GPUs ?
2- It will be so nice , if you give me few details about the way to control each core in these GPUs under Linux system.
    Thank you so much again

Actually, I would like to run my code, under linux system, using GPUs. I have not great idea on the second step after building the hardwares required for this cluster. Indeed, I would appreciate a lot if you have any video explaining in details what I look for or any other support may help me especially when the subject is relied to copying data from CPU to GPU, memory allocation , launching Kernel etc.
Many thanks again to share these knowledge.

Did you ever figure out if you need that SATA power connection? Looking at the book, it references the MB power for the ATX12v connector, and then for the PCIe power, it references the two 4 pin (molex) connectors. I don't see anything stating that extra SATA power is required. I'm doing two more 8 GPU rigs and happen to be using this board as well. Thanks for the vid - all info helps so the haters can pound sand.

    • @TahoeSteve

I have not upgraded a thing is a couple of years because everything I have works great. There is most definitely newer tech. For example, I have heard that the AMD Radeon VII amzn.to/3adwJKZ can do 90 MH/s. If I were to buy today, I would select my GPUs first, and then build what is compatible with them.

No - you'll probably need more like 1600 for 8 GPU's and that is assuming you under-volt them

with ethOS my amd rx 470 GPUs went from 22ish to over 28 mgh/s each. I have 13 of the same. windows cannot handle more than 8 of the same, you'd need to have 8 and 5 or 7 and 6 nvidia amd tobe able to use the 13 slots on the motherboard.

I am new eth miner, and recently i just bought extra 2 pc gpu with Pcie-express.

I try to swap the PCIE between them, only one is working.
so maybe there is a video or explanation that can help me with this?
