Stranded trucks in intense snow in Jefferson County, NY - 1/31/2019

- Due to the intense lake effect snow, tractor trailers were routed off Interstate 81, and on to the side roads in Adams NY, and they quickly became stranded on the icy roads, as the town was buried under more than 2 feet of snow.

I did 6 years of snowplowing for NYS DOT on the 4 lanes from sterling forest up the mountain into Greenwood lake and back. I loved it

Gouvneor N.Y. for two day's back in the late 70's due to the snow, in Florida now take a blizzard over a hurricane any day

I live not too far from there and that’s not a lot of snow for this area. I’ve seen it coming down at 12” per hour I’ve had old timers tell me how they used to have to go out the second story window and dig down to the doors

I left ST Lawrence county the day before, glad I didn't have to be rerouted. But need to point out to everyone that the lake effect doesn't cover a lot of ground, you could be out of it in 5 miles
My wife and I had lunch in Watertown on that day and by the time we finished, the storm had started to move in on us. Just a few miles East of there, blue skies. We left just in time. Lake effect can be very localized as you pointed out.

Shovelers develop good biceps though.
Why tyres are not frozen. Air inside the tyres or full rubber tyres compress cold and takes heat from surrounding.

Theyre not stuck. Just decided to try and take a detour when roads were closed wich was not a smart move by the truckers. When it says roads are closed it doesnt mean go look for a short cut but these days the states will give any idiot a drivers lisance.

Where do you park. Parking lots are designed to keep trucks out. Tight turns and overhead barriers. Truck stops are next to the freeway and when they close the freeway you have nowhere to go. Been stuck on a off ramp on the 402 for 18 hours because the car in front of me was stuck.

I don’t think those trucks chose to park there.... there was a travel ban on New York roadways and those particular people chose to disregard the ban and drive anyway, resulting in stiff consequences from the governor 😳
Your right about the limited coverage. I went with my dad to Buffalo one time when he drove for Ideal Engineering. Went from a couple of inches to drifts blowing up the entire side of three story warehouses in less than five miles. The thing that has stuck with me the most, beside the massive amount of snow, is the yard guys running around in the bitter cold wearing no more than earmuffs, work gloves and sweatshirts, tough bunch. This was back in 1962.

I watched this several times trying to find the "white-out" conditions and there aren't any. There are some reduced visibility conditions that I wouldn't want to drive in but no "white-out". Possibly you don't really know what a "white-out" is.

Stupidest move LEO ever did. Force a bad road 4 lanes on to a bad NARROW 2 lanes... Screwed hundreds of truckers for 40 miles.
