That!!! If you don’t like the price, don’t get it!!! There are places I’ve been where at first I’m like this is a little expensive but it looks really nice and thought out and paid the price. Didn’t like it so guess what? Never went back! But when I did go I saw regulars who were paying a crap ton of money for like 12 cupcakes. Obviously somebody liked it. I wouldn't pay that price just because i can get a premade one at my local whole foods for about $25-45 and whole food cakes slap. I do acknowledge however that this cake is absolutely adorable and you're likely running a private business and not a big grocery store chain's bakery. I love the pearl accents. It really gives your cake that extra touch that makes it feel classy.

I think it depends on the amount of decorations on each cake as well as the type of cake and filling. Some cakes and fillings cost more, some can be bought some are made from scratch and take a day to make. I don't think it's a 1 size fits all, I think many things go into play. Is it gonna be 2 layers or 4. What kind of cake board is it on, will if fit into a box, or are you custom making one? Have a base price for a simple heart cake, and go from there. And don't forget to include your time, it's worth something too. Also keep in mind as you get better, you'll get faster, so your time will also have to reflect your quality of work... Hope that helps 😊
Skill obviously wasn't included here. The skirt on the edge was very uneven, her hand isn't steady, it's unequal proportions, and the top isn't smooth. This is far from professionalism.
The prices are yours and as long as you’re giving quality somebody will buy. But what I really appreciate is that you had an honest starting price while you were practicing . You knew you weren’t up to your own standards just yet and didn’t overcharge and I really respect that. Btw this cake is sooo pretty!!!
Please charge more, it’s your effort and time that cost, the cost of living is ridiculous currently and that deserves you charging higher prices, that cake is worth more honestly❤
It’s more about your target market and how valuable your work is to your customers. In my area you would never sell a 75 dollar cake, no one could afford it. However where you live might be different. It’s all about circumstances and how many cake makers are in your area, the more there are the lower your price will be due to competition. All in all only you can tell whether this is a good price and not us.
If you weren’t making profit from 45 than you were severely underpriced and some of your materials may be overpriced. Cause even if 45 is underpriced for effort and time, there is not way materials should be that much so that you aren’t making even 5 dollars from that. But good for you for raising it to 75 your price for selling anything should be material price times 3.
Do you live under a rock or have you not seen the price of items rising over the past few years? That’s even the store brand foods costing what was once the name brand prices. And name brand being a few dollars more then the store brands. That’s not including issues like shortages causing a high price in times like what happened with eggs. Are people seriously not understanding a single pack of something like butter with four sticks can cost anywhere between 3(if very lucky), to 6 dollars. Before you comment about prices why not check your store and look at the prices of items used in making cake or buttercream. It’s not as cheap as some seem to think currently.

I think your new price is spot on. Cake decorating is a skill that not everyone has. It’s not just about the cost of ingredients or even the time it takes to complete the cake. The years it took you to develop those skills matter and should be factored in to your pricing. Good for you for raising your prices and knowing your worth! 👏🏻

35$ is reasonable price for a corporation. 75$ for a small business owner is equally as reasonable. She even said 45$ wasn't even cutting even. She needs to pay rent, be compensated for the resources and time, etc. I've seen cakes smaller than this be priced at 100$ as a normal square white cake with a print on the top. It's about the resources used.

Your time is valuable. If someone wants Walmart prices, they can just go to Walmart. If they want handmade, then they'll pay your prices without complaining. Your price is reasonable
If business owners had that kind of mindset, their business would fail before it even hit the ground. Your goal is to take the Wal-Mart customers and keep them coming to your business. Your job is to convince us why we should pay your prices for something we could get at Wal Mart for a fraction of that. You don't own a business, right? B/c a business owner wouldn't give that kind of advice nor would they listen to someone who has a view like yours...

There’s a good chance they’ve never ordered a cake that hasn’t been mass produced, frozen / thawed, and would see no reason to even go to a “real” bakery or cake maker. Point being; a small business cake maker would have more success aiming for clientele who are in a higher income bracket that can afford quality vs quantity. Where she is decorating it on one counter and family members are eating on the other side of the counter at the same time. Personally, I would not purchase b/c of that. And she will need to improve in her cake decorating. For me, the "quality" does not seem to be much different than a Wal Mart cake. That is why I am asking... what makes her cakes better than what I can get at the grocery stores? If 2 businesses are selling the "same thing"... should one count out potential customers under the assumption that the customer who purchases from the other business probably wouldn't want to spend or couldn't afford their product? I think you're overcharging because the quality of your craftsmanship isn't in the 70 dollar range yet.. especially also considering the size of the cake. I'd not buy this cake from you for 75 dollars.. I would buy a cake like this at this size for 75 dollars if the craftsmanship were worth the price... I'd pay probably up to

The right people who can AFFORD to pay and are willing to pay will buy your cakes. Btw this cake is beautiful 💗 Those arguing in the comments about whether or not it matters where you from?!Well it does, for instance in my country I survive on about $20 grant monthly so it's highly unlikely for me to buy a cake at this price point. Not everyone wants a super disgusting rich cake. No thank you, I'd rather pay for real cake, not some sickeningly rich grocery store crap popped out from minimum wage workers
That cake is SO cute. People just don’t THINK when it comes to pricing for that stuff. The supplies are getting more and more expensive, plus you absolutely deserve to be paid for your labor and for your design and creativity!!
With the materials, time and effort, utility costs, and all other factors put into cake pricing, that seems totally reasonable especially with the ✨stunning✨ result! People need to get that there are different factors for every bakers pricing
I’d say that’s a good price! Sometimes people forget the price of ingredients and labor. If people would personally not pay that price, that’s okay! There’s other options, but we must always remember it’s up to the person making the product (cake in this instance) to price how they feel justified. If it’s too high, they’ll suffer, if it’s too low, they’ll suffer. They’ll price it how they see fit :)
People who think thisnus over charging are comparing a hand made cake to a factory made cake. They dont get that the price isn't for the cake, it's for the time and skill needed to make the cake.
I think the $75 heart shaped cake is more than appropriate. You have a great gift as an artist . Not many people could make a cake like this, which is amazing looking. Charge what YOU NEED to make a profit and feel like you're worth. People who want it will still purchase and appreciate your work, and people who think it's too expensive don't have to order if they don't wanna. Nobody is hurt in the end!
I couldn't agree with this more! Remember, you aren't just paying for the item/service, your paying for all the time and money and effort they put in for creating art, or in this case, baking.
Sometimes when I go somewhere and think the product is better than it’s priced I give a nice tip, something towards the hard work. But there will always be someone who will like your product enough to give you what you deserve and maybe more
Oh okay...
I though i was buying a heart shaped cake to eat....

I wouldn't pay that price just because i can get a premade one at my local whole foods for about $25-45 and whole food cakes slap. I do acknowledge however that this cake is absolutely adorable and you're likely running a private business and not a big grocery store chain's bakery. I love the pearl accents.

Your time is valuable. If someone wants Walmart prices, they can just go to Walmart. If they want handmade, then they'll pay your prices without complaining. Your price is reasonable
Exactly
If business owners had that kind of mindset, their business would fail before it even hit the ground.
Your goal is to take the Wal-Mart customers and keep them coming to your business. Your job is to convince us why we should pay your prices for something we could get at Wal Mart for a fraction of that.
You don't own a business, right? B/c a business owner wouldn't give that kind of advice nor would they listen to someone who has a view like yours...
@@AlBundyy As a business owner, I can tell you with certainty, your business model would fail for any small business

“Your goal is to take the Walmart customers and keep them coming to your business. Your job is to convince us why we should pay your prices for something we could get at Walmart for a fraction of that”
Being two separate market segments and demographics; a person who orders cakes from Walmart typically would opt for quantity over quality.
The client would care more about taste than price, etc
@@libralillyknitsWhat kind of business do you run?
Here, we are talking about a woman who is baking cakes in her kitchen.
(Not only comparing it to Wal Mart. I honestly don't even know what kind of cakes Wal Mart has. I'm referencing grocery stores who have a bakery and make their cakes inside their stores.)

You know your worth and the energy you are putting into your craft. Charge what you want.
With the materials, time and effort, utility costs, and all other factors put into cake pricing, that seems totally reasonable especially with the ✨stunning✨ result! People need to get that there are different factors for every bakers pricing
If you think it’s too expensive than make it yourself?
I’d say that’s a good price! Sometimes people forget the price of ingredients and labor. If people would personally not pay that price, that’s okay! There’s other options, but we must always remember it’s up to the person making the product (cake in this instance) to price how they feel justified. If it’s too high, they’ll suffer, if it’s too low, they’ll suffer. They’ll price it how they see fit :)
People who think thisnus over charging are comparing a hand made cake to a factory made cake. They dont get that the price isn't for the cake, it's for the time and skill needed to make the cake.
