Exactly. I've seen such beautiful cakes for a decent price considering the time, effort and ingredients put into or on top of it and people are just like "that's way too much for that cake"
Lots of people don't think about how they need to make a profit to continue to make the cakes and also be able to live their lives. I'd definitely be willing to pay $75 for a cake of that size with that beautiful work put into it and I'd be happy to do so.

I think it depends on the amount of decorations on each cake as well as the type of cake and filling.
Some cakes and fillings cost more, some can be bought some are made from scratch and take a day to make.
I don't think it's a 1 size fits all, I think many things go into play.
Is it gonna be 2 layers or 4.
What kind of cake board is it on, will if fit into a box, or are you custom making one?
Have a base price for a simple heart cake, and go from there.
And don't forget to include your time, it's worth something too.
Also keep in mind as you get better, you'll get faster, so your time will also have to reflect your quality of work...
      Hope that helps 😊

And name brand being a few dollars more then the store brands. That’s not including issues like shortages causing a high price in times like what happened with eggs. Are people seriously not understanding a single pack of something like butter with four sticks can cost anywhere between 3(if very lucky), to 6 dollars. Before you comment about prices why not check your store and look at the prices of items used in making cake or buttercream. It’s not as cheap as some seem to think currently.

“Your goal is to take the Walmart customers and keep them coming to your business. Your job is to convince us why we should pay your prices for something we could get at Walmart for a fraction of that”
Being two separate market segments and demographics; a person who orders cakes from Walmart typically would opt for quantity over quality. There’s a good chance they’ve never ordered a cake that hasn’t been mass produced, frozen / thawed, and would see no reason to even go to a “real” bakery or cake maker.
Point being; a small business cake maker would have more success aiming for clientele who are in a higher income bracket that can afford quality vs quantity. The client would care more about taste than price, etc

For me, the "quality" does not seem to be much different than a Wal Mart cake. That is why I am asking... what makes her cakes better than what I can get at the grocery stores?
If 2 businesses are selling the "same thing"... should one count out potential customers under the assumption that the customer who purchases from the other business probably wouldn't want to spend or couldn't afford their product? (Not only comparing it to Wal Mart. I honestly don't even know what kind of cakes Wal Mart has. I'm referencing grocery stores who have a bakery and make their cakes inside their stores.)

I’d say that’s a good price! Sometimes people forget the price of ingredients and labor. If people would personally not pay that price, that’s okay! There’s other options, but we must always remember it’s up to the person making the product (cake in this instance) to price how they feel justified. If it’s too high, they’ll suffer, if it’s too low, they’ll suffer. They’ll price it how they see fit :)

People who think thisnus over charging are comparing a hand made cake to a factory made cake. They dont get that the price isn't for the cake, it's for the time and skill needed to make the cake.

I'd pay $45 for that cake. I'd also pay $70. It's absolutely adorable and you put a lot of time and patience into it

I think the $75 heart shaped cake is more than appropriate. You have a great gift as an artist . Not many people could make a cake like this, which is amazing looking. You also need to factor in all of the time you spent on buying the products, making the cake, and dealing with all of the sale aspects including marketing. Don't sell yourself short.

And much more, I do cakes and my smaller one is $75 and people paid more than 800-1000 for a custom cake so the answer for you is yes😅.

I don't know what state these fools live in my there's no way in hell that little heart shaped cake goes for $75 anywhere near where I live... My daughter's 3 tier (not a huge 3 tier) carnival style cake only cost me $60.. Not only does my cake lady make fabulous looking cakes but they're truly delicious... She'll do any flavor you want with no extra cost.. My daughter's carnival one was fudge marble... I've had camping theme, pink purse party, military theme, Lego theme, mickey mouse, airplane theme, construction vehicles theme, barbie doll with her dress as a cake, Crayola crayons (art theme), flower planting theme, strawberry shortcake, gaming theme ps4 & Xbox, superstar theme, old skool arcade theme, mystery theme and a few more parry themes my cake last has made cakes for and $60 is the most I've ever been charged...

I totally agree with you raising the prices because cakes take a lot of effort to make and a lot of tries to make and a lot of time and practice ❤

At first when i heard $75 for the cake i was like “wow that’s a lot for a cake” but if you think about it with inflation and the cost of ingredients going up + the work put it, i’d say it’s a fair price
