Metallica Day on the Green '85 (FULL All clips + audio)

  • For this one I took the majestic performance by Metallica in 1985 at Oakland, and compiled all the video footage that was recorded that day (Unfortunately nothing else was videorecorded) and I put it together with an audio recording (which I borrowed from RUclipsr Matthew Bonaldo).
So that's it, I hope you enjoy it, I know it sounds like I just downloaded all the clips and put them together but the matter of fact is, that it was a pain in the ass to keep the sync in the audio recording and the video, mostly because of the fact that the video footage is kind of sped up, because everytime I would sync both tracks at the beginning, at the end of the clip one would be 5 seconds forward than the other. But anyways, I was able to get everything done and as I say, I hope you enjoy it, and fuckin' THRASH TILL DETH!
    Oh and almost forgot

Mass entertainment marketing sure as hell existed then, but thrash metal was still a pretty young genre in 1984 and a lot of bands were really just getting started. Thrash wasn't getting the same kind of marketing that glam and poppy bands were getting as a result of mtv and major labels. Thrash pretty much had only existed for about two or three years by 1984.

bob joe Right. And even then, if you weren't already tuned in to this scene (I wasn't, sadly)? We had little idea what it was, what it was all about, how good it truly was. I hate to admit it, but many of us "hard rock/heavy metal fans" were slow to the Metallica table... in large part because of where we lived, who we hung out with, all that.

People just put them in the thrash category with the other big 3, just to make things easy. At the end of the day, how you label it isn't even that important. Yngvie was there too and a band called Victory that we only saw the last song from. After the gig, we all drove up to Santa Cruz and partied on the beach only to get kicked out of the parking lot by rangers early the next morning.
That night we helped some college kids set up their party on the beach for later that night. None of us were even close to knowing what a college party or people were like. They had at least 20 ice chests and were totally cool to us long hairs. We told them about the concert and they were all tripping out on how we drove up in the back on a truck and some barely running Ford Maverick. They even gave us as much food and beer as we wanted. Awesome times.

(Sorry for the long comment but my family can relate) My Dad is the same, He's a big Metallica fan now but didn't exactly follow them until sometime in the 90s. But he saw them open for Ozzy back in 86, but only made it for Metallica's last song. My dad only heard of Seek And Master at the time. I was extremely surprised about that because my whole life(I was born in 96), I'd hear Metallica constantly in the background and mostly the stuff from Kill, Master, The Black Album, and Garage Inc. Disc 2(recorded onto Cassette). But since over a year ago(which seems like forever), I got heavily into Metallica myself and listened to pretty much everything. I'm more of hardcore Metallica fan than my dad though because I listened to the deep cuts, my Dad only played songs he liked. But anyway, when I heavily into Metallica last year, I mainly focused on the 80s stuff and didn't care for the rest, I wasn't excited for the new album to come out. Soon after, I ended up finding a box with all their 80s EPs/12 inchs. Then I got The Black Album because I knew the main hits, but I didn't really care for the whole album. But whatever happened, I think because I saw Lars first showing the new album before it was released, I got turned up to get, then my Dad and I got Hardwired on the day it came out, and a lot of the songs ROCK!!! To this day I still LOVE the title track. Then after I heard an interview of Cliff saying "we do what we want to do, if that's selling out, then whatever", I came to the realization that I NEED all Metallica's albums. So I got all the rest on vinyl and most on CD. I listened to some of Load and Reload but I not a lot of the songs were good. I said "what the fuck" and got Load on CD for like $4 because I started to enjoy some of the songs I My Dad didn't have the CD. I really like Ain't My Bitch and Until It Sleeps, and I LOVE Mama Said. Reload is ok, Fuel is a favorite of my Dad, but I got tired of the song. But I never really took the time really getting into Reload, as I did with Load. I actually always liked the songs Frantic and St. Anger from the album of the same name, so I never understood why people hated the album. So after I listened to the some of the other songs, then I KNEW. lol Right now I just think the album is garbage and Metallica's worst, although I still really like the 2 songs. But a while I REALLY tired to love St. Anger and gave it a lot more credit because everyone hated it. But after a while enough was enough, the album is terrible. Death Magnetic I actually always knew the album since around the time it came out because I was old enough and interested, and my dad got it. Although I only heard some songs, I always liked it, at the time I never thought "this is new Metallica" I just thought "Metallica". My dad doesn't really like the album. These days though about not too crazy about Death Magnetic because at one point James's vocals on that album really started getting on my nerves, it first started with the Beyond Magnetic EP, which my Dad actually likes. Now I just give respect to all Metallica, but my favorite is the studio stuff The did in the 80s. My Dad and I went to see Metallica on July 12th, 2017(my first Metallica show and my Dad's first true Metallica show, although he was in the crowd for one song at a Metallica show in 86), it was the best day of my life. Metallica really put on a great show, videos never do it justice. My Dad has been to a million concerts, but he ranks that Metallica show in his top 2 or 3 shows ever.

What a live performance, for 20 years old guys...
Metallica's latest shows are masterpieces, but there u see they could do some magic even in the beginning...
Still missin Cliff, wonderin what their music could have been with him 4 decades later.

They won't play like they did back in 1985, however you can tell they went through those days to get to today. They are a lot older, slower and sloppier but they are Metallica and there's no other way but to love them and bang to their songs.

    • @FreeMTrider
      @FreeMTrider Год назад +1

@@LuchoCastle_11 they were even close to playing tight like they did on the Puppets tour and even better by Justice. At this point they were just trying to stay in time and in tune...lol. I saw them quite a few times throughout those years. And they pretty damn good now......tech is much better lol

Not just the best Bass player of all time
    God given talents
He also wrote so many of the songs and orchestrated them. Cliffs influences on Ride the Lightning and Puppets are IMMEASURABLE.
ORION, CALL OF KTULU, so many of the melodies and the format.
He knew how the songs should be finished before they started.
Cliff helped and prepared the band for success. Metallica would of never been as big as they were without him.
    God Bless Cliff Burton

What a piece of history. This performance is discussed in detail in the "back to the Front" book about the Master of Puppets album and tour. Shortly after this show, they were in Copenhagen recording Master of Puppets. Pretty damn cool. There's a story about how they destroyed their trailer after the show and rumors of how George Michael had to change in his car at the next day of the festival because he was supposed to use theirs. Lol.

Excellent video thank you! I watched and wished that I had a time machine to go back and buy tickets for that show. I was only 9 years old at that time and lived only a relatively short drive away from Oaktown. I wanted to go but was too young. If I had time machine I would go back and say "fuck it" and boost a hoopty to go see the show despite being 9 years old LOL. However, I did see them later in 1992 at Jack Murphy Stadium in America's finest city San Diego, CA. Body Count, Guns and Roses, and Metallica show hooah!
