So many shots that prompt the thought 'wish I'd taken that' - you're a very considered and gentle photographer and an undiluted pleasure to listen to. Top stuff Liesl.
Dear Liesl, The great photos you share, the story behind them, the way to shoot them, the music selection and your calming voice make your videos so beautiful and unique. Thank you and take care of yourself.
I've recently been photographing some of our flowering dogwoods. This video inspired me and gave me some ideas. I wonder how you pan so smoothly in the video footage of the trees.
Chiaroscuro : "An effect of contrasted light and shadow created by light falling unevenly or from a particular direction on something." "Origin: Mid 17th century from Italian, from chiaro ‘clear, bright’ (from Latin clarus) + oscuro ‘dark, obscure’ (from Latin obscurus)." Definition from Lexico. com / English Dictionary. Glad you enjoyed the video, I should have a new one out in a few days :)
Is that a South African accent? I haven't been back in years so might be mistaken. Nice photos, I like how you explain dealing with the background issues.
Liesl, this is so wonderful! Could you tell me how you manage to keep your pulse steady enough with such a long lens? I just can’t seem to nail focus when hand holding with my sigma 105mm macro.
Ann, sometimes it is difficult, I don't have a lot of strength in my arms, but I am lucky to have steady hands overall and basically I move around a lot, I don't typically stay in one position or one place for long. Have you tried using a tripod or monopod? I really need to make a video sometime on focus and handheld techniques, I will try to get to that once I have exhausted the material I already have for videos.
@@LieslHuddleston Thank you for your reply. Actually just last night I ordered a monopod with a stand so I’m looking forward to trying it out. Can’t wait to see your next videos 🤗
Hi, I'm a new subscriber. I'm learning photography anew in depth and am also focusing on flowers/plants and wildlife but I also have a passion for still life in my home. I have been working as a gardener all through the year for about a decade or so but difficulties in my neurological health mean I can no longer do that so I want to learn as much as I can. What do you do in winter when the weather isn't as favourable? Do you bring in from outside foliage to photograph, visit a florist or does your genre change?
I hope we see some new plants this summer! I know that horrible winter storm damaged many things, so hopefully they're able to replace them. I was looking back at some of my photos from several years ago at the arboretum, I think they had more variety back then. The weather has been lovely lately, good time for a walk out there :)
Awesome, I hope you have fun when you get to go out 😊 We have rain and storms on the way too, I like taking pictures in the rain or right after a shower, but our spring storms can be too much sometimes ⚡️😆
@@LieslHuddleston It stopped raining and I saw some raindrops on a camellia just outside our kitchen. I nipped out with my macro lens on my DSLR and got a lovely shot! Thanks again for your inspirational video.
Hi there, Bob! Thank you, it's been a bit of a challenge this year so far, ha! But slowly easing back into it, I hope you're having good luck and fun with your photography where you are :)
Hello Liesl, nice to see you again. Beautiful pictures! I hope, you can live from your photos, they are outstanding! If you like stacking, try Olympus. In the field of Macro Photography you will reach new possibilities, which you can hardly reach with Fullframe. Best regards from Bavaria. Matthias
Thank you, you are very kind. Some day perhaps it would be nice to try Olympus. I rarely stack images, but I do appreciate seeing wonderful images created that way :)
Such beautiful photos, I love the pillowy soft white flowers taken with your phone. Your choice of music is so soothing, I felt like I was just at a spa! The spring is taking its time getting here as always (Alberta Can.), it seems worse this year because the snow has been gone for a month now. Twice a week I walk in the forest looking for changes, other than green moss, it's still brown! :(. I have plenty of great inspirations from your videos, thank you for your wonderful tips.
Thank you! It must be so hard to watch everyone else begin to enjoy spring while you still have to wait. But! I think your spring probably lasts a lot longer than ours does. It always feels like spring just barely gets going here and then it is over and we always have storms and high winds which keeps me inside a lot. I'm looking forward to hearing about your flowers popping up real soon :D
Great video and fantastic Macro shots. Im very inspired to go out shooting flowers now. Keep the video's coming. I have learned so much from your video's.
Thank you very much. More videos coming soon, I just take a long time to make each of them :) I hope you're enjoying some time outside with your camera!
Beautiful video Liesl, I love the simplicity of your images whether you’re using a dslr or iPhone, the quality of your work is just outstanding. I know I’ve said this before, your imagery, videography and calming voice makes your videos so relaxing to watch especially in these difficult times. What’s your thoughts on Lensbaby lenses? and have you ever thought of using them yourself? Thanks for sharing your tips on macro/closeup photography with us, 👍 Cheers, Cliff
Thanks so much! I actually bought a Lensbaby lens in January, I've tried it a couple of times but could not feel comfortable with it. I think it needs a totally different mind-set and with how I was feeling the first few times out this year I felt like it would be better to try it out again in the summer when I have a bit more time to play. I have seen some beautiful work with them, but I can imagine it would take a lot of practice.
Thank you Liesl for another great video, it is very helpful on how to select the flowers to photograph! Also, I didn’t know the white petals are not the flower of dogwood tree which is called bracts, lol. Thanks for the info. 👍💕
Beautiful photography, pleasant and informative narration and an inspiring video, as always really. You've got your own style and approach that I enjoy and appreciate. Keep it up! :)
Simply beautiful.....your work is so Inspiring! Thanks for sharing. ❤

I consider it is challenging to taking good photos of white and red flowers and your photos are just amazing.
Thank you. It really is, you're right! I definitely have trouble with reds and purples too. It is especially difficult when it is sunny.
Love your video and calm explanation! Awesome! Thanks!
Thanks, glad you liked it!

Thank you! Yes, I love flowers so much too!
I really enjoyed this video , thanks Liesl. What was that term you used when photographing the snowball flower on the sunny side of the tree please?

Thanks so much for this video! My favorite plant/tree is the cherry blossom. Thanks so much for your advice and for sharing your techniques.
Thank you, Will! They flower for such a short time, I wish spring laster longer! :) Glad you liked this, thanks!
Just beautiful. I’m in the Southern Hemisphere so photographing the end of the dahlia season along with anemones and camellias.

The story about how you ended up in North Texas is probably interesting. You certainly don't sound as if you were born there. 🙂
Nope, haha! But I have lived here in Texas for 21 years now :) Originally from South Africa, met my husband there when he was visiting from the US.
