Andy Semple I know, I'm a big fan of Charlie Brooker already. To be honest, I'd rather he do more drama than this (or take over Doctor Who because he plus Capaldi would be gold).
I once spent a whole Easter Holidays playing GTA when I was 14 and never then felt compelled to shoot someone in the face in real life afterwards. This is in much the same way that I've played quite a bit on the PDC Pro Tour darts game for PS3, yet never once felt compelled to put on 15 stone and win the World Matchplay in real life.
Evie Rae What, ever? There's the classic X-Men, TMNT and Simpsons arcade cabinets, Double Dragon, Final Fight, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, etc, etc, etc.
DanRSL Yeah that annoyed me too actually! I wanted to see if anyone else picked it up. If it's stationary in one scene with (normally) one enemy and rounds, it's a fighting game. If it scrolls along multiple scenes against multiple enemies, it's a beat-em-up. Simple! I was expecting to see Final Fight and Double Dragon, even Combatribes or Moonwalker! Not Tekken. Otherwise, fantastic show.
interesting that now in 2016, one of the games at the top of the pile, minecraft, is actively being used by parents a baby-sitter for those 5-15yo.. and to think I have actually said "at least his using his brain in minecraft instead of mindlessly watching youtubers..."
By the way the game endorfun with subliminal messages had messages like "I feel joyful now" "I love being alive" "I can do anything". And you could set the messages to full volume so you could hear them and know what they say.
Playing violent video games doesn't affect anyone at all ever. Unless you have some mental problem where you can't differentiate reality and a game... I play GTA and kill hundreds of thousands of people. Does it mean that I want to go out and kill people in real life? No. Our minds can tell the difference between what is real and what isn't based on our experiences. The only time any gamer would ever turn violent is on people who say that video games cause violence. You want gamer violence... I'll give you gamer violence. The media is fucking BS anyways.
I'm not a gamer but I've got some ideas based on this programme. I'd like to see a sandbox game where you have different scenes which copy all the classic genres like Puzzle, Level, Fighting, Simulator etc. You only get top points if you try a bit of each. Has anyone ever made a first person shooter where you have to walk around offices killing politicians, lawyers, bankers, estate agents etc.? Pleasant Neighbourhood Simulator could be made if after everyone had been pleasant for a while and the neighbours started baking cakes for each other and lending each other lawnmowers it all started to get a bit hairy and they all end up killing each other. 'Klass Kanal' Actually never mind pushing Klass into a canal, how about a bigger game where you abuse lots of annoying celebrities, like have a Celebrity Monster Island where they have to kill each other in teams to survive, and it's all being filmed for a reality TV show. Jeremy Clarkson on one side and Piers Morgan on the other.
Oh, has anyone done a strategy game where you are the Illuminati? You have to infiltrate intelligence agencies, recruit from Freemasons, perform Satanic rituals at key astrological alignments, assassinate rebellious national leaders and make it look like a 'lone nut', etc.
With your multi scene idea I think most people would get bored on the 4x stage. And simulator doesn't really tell you much about gameplay. The Arma games are military simulators, but they are also of course first person shooters. By level do you mean platformer? and there did used to be game packs with hundreds of all kinds of different small games from many genres.
Grand Theft Auto games are kind of like that now. As well as the gun, fighting, and car play there are often in-game arcade machines, snooker, golf, tennis, racing, and other mini-games you can waste time with.
10:22 "Joan was quizzical, studied pataphysical science in the home, late nights all alone with a test tube, oh-oh-oh-oh, Maxwell Edison, majoring in medicine, calls her on the phone- 'Can I take you out to the pictures, Jo-o-o-oan?'
Us proper guitarists don't think about what we're doing ;P lol Or at least I don't....when I start to think about it, that's when I start to mess up. If you watch my videos, you can guarantee the places I mess up are where I thought "Oh this is going well I know exactly what I'm doi-FUCK!" lol :D
13:54 my name in the end credits :D
+Larry Bundy Jr What did you do for the show?
Fluffer.
It's a shame this never got picked up for a full series, it's got such a strong framework to build on. Charlie Brooker is the dude.
This is part of Screenwipe which was/is a series. It just focuses more on TV media, which he's more suited to satirize than video games.
Andy Semple I know, I'm a big fan of Charlie Brooker already. To be honest, I'd rather he do more drama than this (or take over Doctor Who because he plus Capaldi would be gold).
"if you play condemned 2 you're probably scottish"
I fucking sneazed laughter
Love the orchestral version of "Wicked Game" playing in the background.

4:50 - Stabbing a passer-by in the face several times = horrible, sickening violence.
4:55 - The addition of kicking him up the arse = comedy gold.
4:38 absolutely best laughter ever!
How did they confuse Beat Em Ups with Fighting Games? They literally showed no Beat Em Ups in that montage.
I know, right? But then, the only beat-em-up that I've seen is Bebe's Kids.
Evie Rae

Only just noticed "Wicked Game" playing through the GTA bit.
Also, Barry Shitpeas demonstrating beat 'em ups
This got me in the mood for some crude shoot-em -ps
I hear the 2 newest Wolfensteins are quite the balls.
hahahahah his mini break-down at 12:10 made spit my drink out
Aww! I want to play pleasant neighbourhood simulator. British video game magazines used to be the best in covering games in the 90s also.
Yahtzee has actually cited Brooker as a major inspiration for his review style.

"you can kill people and not think about it in the morning." Beautiful poetry.
I want to play the neighborhood game! :D
Oooh. Chances are The Escapist wouldn't allow them to use a ZP. Especially now that they've been miscredited on the Rebecca Mayes video.
10:57 anyone else notice the "safe house" sign from L4D in the back?
+Backasin010 and the random guy pissing in the background
1:25 flashback on the shelf, yes
@PtolemyAFX WHAT?!
Dear lord, let Charlie Brooker do another one of these, and pray god that Yahtzee could do it that time!

+Autumn and Winter you must have quite a few hours if your body count's reached 100 000
Song in background at 4:04?
Ooo, I remember Carmageddon! :D

Dopefish in the canal shot!
Hahah, I'm not a "proper guitarist", but back when I was taking lessons, that was my experience as well. :P
want that neighborhood simulator yo!
I... I think I'm in love 0.0
Rapelay trained me how to treat my computer repair customers.
Still can't find the song 2:40 onwards!!!
It's an instrumental version of Wicked Game by Chris Isaak.
Super late, but I just found it. It's wicked game performed by the royal philharmonic. it's not on youtube but you can find it on google
Art Vandalay
Finally, thank you :D
Finally after years, you've completed the puzzle! Knew it was Wicked game, just not who by :)
I'm HORRIFIED by these reports.
Charlie Brooker and Ben Yahtzee....Please God let their paths cross.
I had to skip the singing part.
00:10 Really? Really?!
I laughed at a reaction that was a mirror of my own.
"Eye to Eye with Katie Couric"
No thanks.
04:29
now there's the charlie we know!
XD
Beat em up and fighting games are 2 different genres.

Take my food, take my water, but stay the FUCK away from my video games.
Oh that human flesh! [shivers & vomits]
:)
10:57 Dopefish Lives!
Same here.
I don't care for the style of music, but damn that girl was hot.
After watching all these 20 year old new clipping, I keep thinking what things happening today are going to be that idiotic in 20 years from now.
yes console games are bad BUT HERES AN AD TO JOIN THE ARMY
@EriksB Fun?
Yahtzee is fucking hilarious and if you disagree then your opinion is wrong.
Well after watching touch of cloth not much.
Dull
Ask someone a bit more... middle class.
Haha
@flynntheman90 It's alright not horrible, just immoral.
4:55 never nice to be kicked in the arse :/
