+Kaysha hopefully :) i'm usually using mine on a gimbal and neither that lens or my gh4 has image stabilization but on a lens that wide it's actually pretty steady most of the time. Great for vlogging being a wide angle too! Oh by the way, I was listening to you on Spotify the other day. Awesome tracks man, i love it.
I'm so used to my small GF7s that I don't want the heavy gear for vlogging. So gimbal and gorilla pod is not for me. I just wanna handheld and enjoy the magic. Let's see when the G85 arrives
Great video! How would you say this lens compares in terms of autofocus to other wide angles that you've used? Also, was the test footage at the end shot in C-AF?
It’s pretty good for autofocus, being a wide angle lens it is pretty easy for it to stay in focus most of the time. I can’t remember whether the test footage was manual or autofocus though
You know i consider myself your apprentice hey? Did you notice as soon as you did a gimble vid i get a gimble lol i wish i could do cool transitions between scenes like you did in this vid... I've been watch some vids on editing but my computer is sooooo slow i just give up sometimes lol
The crop factor is 2x for 1080p and 2.3x for 4k. Let’s stick with 1080p for instance. The formula is (lens width x crop factor x speedbooster) so 18 x 2 x 0.71 = 25.56 full frame equivalent and the Olympus becomes 24mm full frame equivalent so not a huge difference but at 4k the Sigma becomes 29.39mm at it’s widest end so it’s quite a lot wider than the Olympus in 4k. It doesn’t seem like a big difference in mm but for some reason it made a bit of a difference when it came to shooting with it. I now have the 7-14mm Olympus for this reason which is wide as, plus it’s native though I love that :)
Ah right, sorry i missed that too haha. In my video you can see the difference between the Lumix 14mm and Olympus 12mm. Even though it is only 2mm it is a huge difference. So even though it’s only like a 1.5mm difference from the Sigma with the SB to the Olympus 12mm, it does make quite a difference and is also a much lighter setup to use for video especially on a gimbal. The 18-35 weighs a ton haha :)
I find that as a Micro 4:3 user, "equivalence" is meaningless. Also I'd figure that a wider aperture for interior photography shouldn't be needed. Use a tripod and a longer exposure and you're good.
I agree with the equivalence to some point but it at least gives people a frame of reference when it comes to what a 12mm, 24mm lens should look like, etc. I would never really use a wide aperture for real estate photography much but for video I would and that's what I mainly used this lens for. I would normally shoot at around F8 for real estate photography but the good thing about this lens was that even when using a wide aperture; most things were still in focus :)
What do you all think of the lens? I love it!
How do you think it compares to the Leica 15mm 1.7? That's the one I vlog with. About to upgrade to a G85
+Kaysha i'm not 100% sure to be honest, I've never used the Leica 15mm. All I can say is that i'm really happy with the Olympus 12mm :)
I also love the Leica 15mm, it is just missing OIS, hopefully, the G85 will help

+Kaysha yeh I know exactly what you mean. When I was vlogging I was using the G7X, no changeable lenses but an awesome camera all round :)
Olympus M.ZUIKO 12mm F2。 The electronic system of this lens is available on Panasonic GH4, right?

+Juice BOX Duce hahaha love you man :) your editing is pretty damn good man, it sucks when the computer speed holds you back though :(
Good sample images, good insights.
is it sharp enough for 4K?
Yep, it still looks great in 4k
Doesn't the sigma with metabones = a wider angle than the 12mm?
Nah, it is still quite a bit narrower than the 12mm :(
Michael Ronin 18x2x.64 < 12 x2

Michael Ronin ok. I have the .64. There's the difference

bit disappointed by the barrel cistortion of this lens. maybe it should be recalculated and be corrected by software more strictly.

Seriously, you are going to use that two foot-long Sigma lens on an Olympus Body?
lol, yes I did and it worked very well. It's a Panasonic body not an Olympus.
That Sigma lens combined with a speedbooster on the GH4 was like the ultimate combo at one point.
