Hello Rob, as always very nice video and photos. The region where you live is beautiful and you are always a source of inspiration for us. Your black and white photos are always perfect. If friends like my photos, it's thanks to you. THANK YOU ROB
I am always amazed how you find nice compositions of places/objects that I would just walk by. Like your mono/color profiles. Yes, the Pen F offers an almost unlimited way to create unique profiles (film simulations). With those profiles SOOC makes so much sense.
Very nice images and great narration along the way. I especially liked the pigeon-holed rope, the log with the tracks, and the dramatic upward view of the pair of sailboats. You worked that wide angle well.
Great video, Rob. You have such a good eye! I admire how well you juggle your video and audio gear and make it all come together in an enjoyable video.
Your observation choice of SOOC with Pen-f is what I have discovered too. I’ve changed from RAW to RAW+JPG to mostly JPG with the Pen-f; especially with the 12mm Prime! What a fine combo for walks! I love the Pen-f and all the features & custom settings one can apply! Thx for the inspiration! 😊
Thank you for your video. I am enjoying it on saturday morning with my first coffee. This 12mm lens is on my list for a long time but I have the 12-40mm lens and I hope the upcoming 8-25mm is a lens for me. Your photos from this beautiful location are very nice and my kind of style too.
Rob, did not have time to write a comment at the time, but you had some excellent compositions with the Nikon 105. I appreciate this series of photo walks that focuses on a specific focal length.
Rob, in this video and several of your recent photo-walks, the sound is tinny and hollow. Are you using a different audio setup? Other than that, excellent, as always. Love that closing footage as you hold the camera behind you, over your shoulder!
Yes, I've switched to my insta360 one r cam for vlogging. It uses bluetooth mic which you can see in my ear - apple air pod pros. I'm not happy with it either but had to take it out a few times to see how it holds up. In my initial short testing they were fine.
You should do a Olympus 9-18 lens. It's a nice lens, very sharp and reasonably priced, especially used. May work out nice for the river and historic areas
You got some sweet shots. These photowalk/phototalk vids are great - keep 'em coming! I have the same trouble with lenses wider than the 17mm, especially very wide ones like the 12mm. I find I also like to use them for closer up compositions, filling the frame with the main subject, and then the wide angle gives you that unique perspective. I still reach more for lenses ranging from 25mm to tele though ;) (can I get a bonus point for not referring to a full frame focal length equivalent even once?)
I see it doesn't do pincushion nor vertical distortions. Or were they corrected on post edit? I appreciate your work. I'm on the market for this lens. Would you recommend it for grand angle landscape takes?
I have the Lumix 14mm on my PL-8, and it works for close encounters on the street. I am thinking that OM systems could bring back the PEN F as a PEN S or [street] camera. Used with 17mm Olympus lens, or Lumix 15mm it would be pretty neat. Or go with a 25mm Oly or Panny lens. I have used the 45mm on the street and it works most of the time, but is a little tight of course. I do not own a Pen F, but hear of slower focusing, so any new version would require a more snappy focus. Other than that, it is pretty much a street shooter. A 20MP PEN S with a 17mm or 25mm lens for $999 might be a popular camera. Could compete with Ricoh GRIIIx and maybe with the Fujifilm 100v, though it is pretty fancy, and with APS-C sensor. But price would be under. Just a thought. - Loren
@@RobTrek Yes, mostly hits the right points. Not available in USA, for some odd reason. No phase detect. Nice looking camera. The Lumix GX9 with 12-60-mm lens is only $799. Good deal. I think both lack weather sealing. Fujifilm is still on my curiosity list. Alas, it's all good :)
So we still have the 12mm f2, but the Pen F, such a brilliant camera, is now in the dusty cobwebs of history. For all its brilliance, video limited to 1080p consigns the camera to that long list of cameras not meeting the needs of modern photographer/videographers. And Olympus has never understood how popular a Mark II version would be if it had half decent 4K.
I think everyone with a current PenF wants a Mark II, myself included. I doubt we’ll ever get one. I actually bought a second one recently just in case my current one ever fails.
@@RobTrek It only needs 4K video to bring it up to modern needs. Everything else is perfect already. Just like Panasonic not realizing that they only need to put a flippy screen on the LX100 II to have a hit on their hands. Sometimes manufacturers cannot see that which is in front of their noses.
Love this lens in 2024. I took some FANTASTIC pictures with it on my Pen-F.

Thanks!
Your photo walks work well as instructional inspiration! It is helpful to see which photos you rejected and why. Thanks
Thanks. I'll try to include more rejection shots in future vlogs.
Nice work as usual Rob. You capture the relaxed pace of photgraphy. Thanks
Thanks, James!

Thanks for sharing. So pretty summer over there. You made some great points on how it's important to look and see what is around you.
Thanks, Mattie!

Thanks, John! I try.
Great photowalk, Rob. 12 mm is really wide, but I want that lens anyway, lol.
Thanks, Plato.
Hi Rob. Composing with the wide angel beast seems like really hard work :-)
It was hard to adapt to 12mm after shooting 105mm all week.

I love the Pen F too! Thanks.
The 12mm is lovely. Thank you.
It really is!

Happy to find this video. I am trying to decide to buy the 12mm for my Pen F right now.
Glad it was helpful!
@@RobTrek Now I have a different issue. I was looking to buy a black lens. But Silver on the silver Pen F looks amazing.
I prefer black lenses now because when I put a silver lens on my other black cameras, it looks weird.

I appreciate your work.
I'm on the market for this lens.
Would you recommend it for grand angle landscape takes?
The corrections are applied in-camera or via lens profiles in editing software. This is one of the best lenses for m4/3.
Interesting to hear your thoughts as you are working your shot. Love your skinny neck strap. What is it (do you have an Amazon affiliate link for it?)
Thanks. I made the strap out of paracord and key ring loops.

I think you're describing the Olympus E-P7. It's list price is 799 pounds?

vignetting?1!!
There is always some wide open with most lenses. It's usually corrected in-camera and/or post processing.
