I am a mood photographer, so I totally understand what you mean. It takes an artist like yourself to take photo’s that express a different mood in the same lighting conditions. I have the 17 mm f 1.8, which is practically glued to my em5 II. Lusting after the 12 mm, but cannot afford it right now.
Creek shots. I like the leaf on the log, next to your lenses in the changing of lenses segment of this video.... Good to see a video of you out and about, taking photos. Oh happy days :) Was also great to see you and Matti in another video, enjoying the day. We need more happiness in this world. Thanks! -Loren
17mm f1.8 is such a convenient lens for everyday candid indoor photography. Bright enough and wide enough for most situations. Any wider and it gets more difficult to avoid distorted warped faces in the corners.
Here's a tip. Brighter on the left is sad; brightness in the upper right is happy. Light coming from the left (like in Vermeer) is sad while from the right (van Gogh's self portraits) is happy. The left is the past and the right is the future so if an image is very dark on the far right it can feel very foreboding...
It really depends on whether the water is flowing or not. Yes: creek, brook, stream. No: pool. Or stagnant pool. Stagnant is a good melancholy word. Love your videos. You have a great style.
I have both of these, since almost since they were released. Funny, mine are also silver and black, like yours. These lenses are more different than the numbers suggest. Because they are so small, it is easy to have both with you in the bag, like the 45 f/1,8 is but it has no clutch. Small waterway? In Australia it's called a creek, In the UK a "brook"
Thank you Peter! The video is very inspiring! I will hurry towards the wood back at my house with my humble omd 10 kit lens. I am expecting the 60mm macro by next week and I will be able to take happy pictures = flowers, insects, mosses and pets and melancholic pictures= autumn leaves.
Great, Peter, loving these challenges 👌🏽 Feeling challenged💪🏾I'm on a trip with the 40-150mm and 300mm Pro lenses, the 17mm and 45mm 1.8 are at home🙈...let's see what happens....
Great, thank you, Peter. Yes, please more challenges / self-assignments like this. I missed it sadly, and hope to be on board next time! I took some images today with the 12mm 2.0 at night.
@@ForsgardPeter Great, I definitely want to participate / join! Its really a great opportunity to learn and to be inspired. Your two mood images are really great. Thank you so much!
SAD - dark or black and white. Drab - grey, black, blue, dark green. Still/static. Something broken or old, discarded or neglected. Lots of shadow. JOYFUL - nature, children, delicate or ephemeral. Colourful - yellow, orange or red. Movement/ change. Lots of highlights. PS The 12-45mm pro is my go to lens! PPS please don’t wear those ripped jeans in the winter!
The m Zuiko 12mm lens is a joy to use and travel with! I’m not a WA fan, generally, but the Pen-f & 12mm kit is amazing! So easy to carry and sharp to shoot! Nice video, Peter! Good ideas! Thx!
I think these two lenses are complementary. You use it one or the other according to your inspiration of the day, your feeling. I often walk around with my 17mm (Even if I have a 12-45) And I'm thinking of putting a 12mm in my pocket. A fixed focal length forces you to move and search to compose the best photography.
Lovely video Peter. I will get the M1X in January. I am excited about it. Peter, please, can you tell me why the picture using the 12mm with f2.0 looks much brighter than the 17mm with f1.8. I also noticed that both pictures, at least in the video dont look very sharp either. Probably between f1.8 and f2.0 is not a big difference or? I am still having problems to understand these equivalents since I own something else, the Sony RX10 Mark IV with a fixed lens of 24mm to 600mm and getting soon a M1X, I feel like I have to start all over again. Many greetings to you Peter, wish you a nice day there! Greetings from Germany. Alfredo
Sharpness cannot be judged from a RUclips video. at the time I made videos in fullHD and the compression that RUclips does is not good for the sharpness. The difference between F1.8 and F2.0 is not that big. The aperture is only one part of the exposure equavation. You can get bright images with F5.6 if the other two shutter spoeed and ISO are set correctly. If you want dark images with F1.8, that is also possible. Just use faster shutter speeds and/or lower ISO. It is not only about the fastetst aperture, but it is all about the exposure.
timzanation I owned the 12. Loved the lens, but the 9-18 offered a lot of more options. I like to keep the number of lenses to a minimum so I sold the 12mm. A hard decision but I love the 9-18. However I do have my eye out for the 8-25 when it comes out
I always think that one should make a journey into a photograph. It should start at the foreground and continue onwards into the middle & background. Hopefully it would continue round to the foreground again completing a circle.
Happy image is one of a person smiling. Sad image is one with a mask on. Around the trees, happy image is a new bloom, and the sad a broken branch. -Loren
Hi Peter, If you had to carry just one fast prime for indoor use to photograph, lets say; people in restaurants, or churches, or indoor weddings, or parties, etc., what focal length would you pick?

I enjoyed this episode. I live in similar area. And I have these two lenses. I'll try this challenge.

I ordered Oly 12mm (used) for my GX80...(astrophoto attempts soon in Nordland)
Thanks for getting outdoors for the rest of us that don't have that kind of outdoors nearby.
My lil 17mm f1.8 comes today!
Cool!

I have and like the 17mm 1.8 and the 25mm 1.8. But have never gotten a 12mm because I use the 9-18mm when I go wider.
9-18mm is more versatile so it is a good choice too.

Olympus PEN PM1 wit 12mm Prime Lens is the Best Camera Set Up

Nice! Love your choices ;)
Thanks! 😊
Joyful, happy = summer photo 😊
Sad, melancholy = b/w autumn photo 📸
Hi Peter, If you had to carry just one fast prime for indoor use to photograph, lets say; people in restaurants, or churches, or indoor weddings, or parties, etc., what focal length would you pick?
Most likely the 17mm f1.8 or the Pro-version f1.2.
@@ForsgardPeter Thanks for the advice!
what's the sharpest aperture for the 12mm and 17mm respectively? f5.6 for the 12mm?
Хорошее видео , спасибо!
Thank you.
When I want boke I use the 45mm and when I want a wider angle I use the 12mm
My 17mm kinda stay useless
Will the LiveStream be available later just to watch? The time difference won't work for me, but I'd still like to submit and watch.
Yes it will be available on my channel.
Good lens♥️‼️♥️
Sounds like a good challenge. Out of curiosity, what makes the E-M10 iv your preference over the E-M5 iii?
It fits perfectly in my hand. The new design of the grip is excellent for my hand. It is a bit smaller than E-M5 MKIII. I need extra grip with that.
My best happy image was the coffin of my rich uncle, of whom I was the only heir ...
In England a stream or brook. In Scotland, a burn
Thanks.
@@ForsgardPeter You're welcome :)
Sounds like a fun assignment. I'm going out capturing photos tomorrow :)
Sounds great! Go for it.
The 12-45mm makes no sense to me when you could have the 12-100mm
12-45mm f4 is a lot smaller lens. That is something that I like. 12-100m f4 is a very versatile lens and also a very good travel and all around lens.
Most important subject to shoot in this video would have been the mosquitos (regardless if it is joyful or sad) 😁
Yes those would have been very good subjects.
The Olympus 45mm is awesome for the money! Bought at one time for $249.99
I just bought the Lumix 14mm, made in Japan lens, from Samy's in California, for $198 -- it is their 44 year anniversary so no tax. :) -Loren
Colourful? I think rather than sad you are looking at sombre.
Could be, I have sometimes a bit trouble with the right terms.
