  • How to replace the cabin filter in a Mazda CX9. This is a 2015 model, however, this applies to the first generation CX9 made between the years 2007 to 2015. The cabin should be changed every 40,000km or 25,000 miles or every 2 years, whichever comes first. A dirty or plugged cabin filter can cause heating or cooling performance issues, restricted airflow, foul odors, and cause excessive strains on your blower motor leading to a premature failure. #mazda #mazdacx9 #mechanic

    Tools/Supplies Needed:
    -new cabin filter
    -vacuum cleaner
    Procedure:
First is opening the glove box.
Next is removing all the items inside the glove box, the compartment will need to be removed fully in a moment.
Once empty, squish one side of the glove box in to disconnect a tab. This will be on the right side. Then pull down the compartment.
Pull the compartment back towards you, this will unclip two pivot points at the bottom. then place it somewhere safe.
Now we have complete access to the cabin filter housing. On the fuse panel side will be a tab that needs to be pressed in, and then pulled back on the door, it fits into a slot on the opposite side.
Simply slide out the old cabin filter, and make sure no debris falls inside the blower motor assembly.
I always find it’s a good idea to vacuum up any potential debris that might be inside the housing.
Compare the old and new cabin filter assemblies to ensure they are the same. Then install the new cabin filter. The raised portion should be facing upward.
The access door was cleaned and now it’s reinstalled. Clipped the door on one side and then snapped it in on the opposite side.
No clip the glove compartment back into place. Align those pivot points and then push it in until it’s locked in place.
Push the glove box into its position, the tab on the side will retract and then lock into the dashboard.
The trim panel may have disconnected below this compartment, simply snap it back into place.
Not all the contents can go back into the glove box and you are officially done.

I had no idea i had to do this. It looks so simple yet i can see soooo many things going wrong or being frustrating. Starting with getting the glove box door off or worse, getting it back on. This is why many people pay mechanics i guess. But *sigh* gotta start somewhere and I'm very appreciative of your videos. They clearly show how it "should" happen. 😅 So I know what I'm looking for at least!

Thank you so much for the kind words. Best to start out small as you become more comfortable, then tackle the bigger projects.
