Seeing it in a theater is one of my favorite moviegoing experiences ever. I was almost crying from having so much fun during the football practice sequence. Criterion’s release is exceptional, but I highly recommend seeing it with a crowd if you ever get the chance.
That’s awesome! I’d love to see this on the big screen. I got to see Safety Last at the Strand theater earlier this year, and this weekend they’re playing Steamboat Bill Jr. That’ll be my first Buster Keaton on the Big Screen!
I'm kind of fascinated by Lloyd, especially in conversation with Chaplin or Keaton. Can't wait to dive into this podcast! Thrilled to hear what y'all have to say.
Hi, guys! I really enjoyed this look at a comedy I've loved for many years now. And like you, I absolutely love that little handshake dance. I also recommend Lloyd's "For Heaven's Sake," which has an amazing chase sequence along the streets of Los Angeles. And Conner gets extra points for the shout out to my favorite film, "Meet Me in St. Louis."
Loved to see that tangential Howard Hughes connection with The Sin Of Harold Diddlebock/Mad Wednesday. That tenure at RKO produced some mind-boggling projects.
The Freshman is one of my favorite silent comedies, up there with Chaplin's City Lights.
While it excels with physical comedy, i think it has a great message: be yourself.
Agreed! The heart of The Freshman is just as good as the comedy
Thanks for this, enjoy the Lloyd's that I have seen ( Speedy + Safety Last - have had & just not seen The Freshman yet), and y'all's perspective and opinions definitely made me put it in this weekend's list. Very much enjoy these long discussions. Hope I'm not in the glaring minority.
Thanks! Yeah these aren’t the most popular videos. I get a lot out of them personally though, so I’m gonna continue doing them. Glad you enjoyed the conversation!
Great film and video. For the longest time, IMO, Chaplin was #1 and was untouchable. Over the past decade I've gotten to watch more and more Keaton and Lloyd. And now, I feel that Chaplin has some serious competition from these two comedians. Their greatest is now measured in degrees to each other. It is a shock to see how great all three are and how well their films still hold up. You both may want to look into Ross Lipman's NOTFILM, A documentary inquiry into the strange but true collaboration of Samuel Beckett and Buster Keaton.
Yeah Lloyd has really grown on me. Can’t wait to also explore Keaton’s filmography. Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll have to look into that
Safety, last! is another gem!
Safety last is great! I got to take my son to see it in the theater a couple months back. Such a fun movie
@@FilmsByColor Did he enjoy it? Sometimes it's hard for Kids to dive into silent films!
Have you seen the sequel, The Sophomore? 🥁
Shouldn’t Conner be in a corner too?
Nobody puts Conner in a corner
