oh my god i cannot believe you got a 35 and a 2310 and people told you to try harder.. that is just absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. most kids would cry if they got scores that high.
Maxim Enis fuck off, test scored are heavily influenced by how much of daddy's money he can throw at private tutors and other resources that most schools don't have. A number from a test doesn't certify intelligence.
I'm going into 9th grade and my ultimate goal is to get into stanford. I'm planning on doing a sport as well as honors and ap courses. Is there anything you'd recommend starting as soon as possible in addition to writing? I was thinking of self studying geometry to skip to algebra II freshman year or taking spanish and latin, but many people have told me that it would be too much. Sorry if this is long and you've already answered all these questions. You really are an inspiration!
Do colleges like to see JROTC on your transcript? Because at my school, JROTC is on a 5.0 scale rather than a 6.0 scale and it is bringing my overall GPA down, and my class rank higher. With JROTC, I'm ranked number 14, but without it, I'd be like number 6 or 7, so I don't know if I should stay in it or not.
colleges really don't care that much about gpa or rank i'd say! like of course they care that your grades are good and you're doing well in your classes and challenging yourself by picking hard classes, but besides that, they really don't care about minute details like if your gpa is a little lower because you're taking an unweighted class or whatever. if jrotc is something you really enjoy and you think it'll prepare you for the career you may potentially be interested in, then definitely continue taking the class- you'll never regret spending time doing what you love.
JROTC is great, show leadership! I am in jrotc, an incoming senior and I now have a position in the battalions chain of command!! At my school there have been a handful of people that have gotten into prestigious schools, full ride, due to their leadership potential & not necessarily due to grades.
so this is a year overdue but I don't think you mentioned it but what is your weighted and unweighted GPA, and what reg and AP classes did you take in high school? thanks :)
Would you think it's bad if I retook an AP test when I got a 4? It's for my self satisfaction as I feel like there were circumstances that might have made me score less... But congrats! You're awesome! :)
+Eleni was wondering what's your SAT or act score if you don't mind me asking and what was your GPA like out of whatever system your school had and what was your personal statement about, I know I'm asking a lot of questions but It would help a lot of people including me so thank you!
I have a rather "competitive GPA" not the best compared to some, but definitely in the top 15% of my class. I have wanted to go to Stanford since I was 8 and even though I had considered not applying because I'm not close to the average, should I still apply? I literally have never taken an AP/Honors Science and math and I'm taking AP Stats next year because I do sincerely think I do not belong in regular classes. By the time I finish high school I'll have 8 AP classes done and with 31 out of 24 credits needed to graduate. My school has one of the top 100 debate teams in the country and I'm captain of it next year and I do multiple clubs as well. Not going to lie, but I got a 19 on my ACT the first time and I do poorly because I have test anxiety, but I'm still wanting to apply because I feel like schools like to see dedication and persistent interest more than qualification. I've heard stories of people with 3.4 or lower getting in because they show passion to learn!!
honestly, why the heck not? college applications is a once in a lifetime sorta thing so if you don’t apply now, you’ll never get another chance to (unless you try to transfer or apply for grad or something but that’s kind of a completely different experience). stanford looks at a lot more than just grades and test scores (even though i'd still suggest giving the act/sat another shot to see if you improve), so i’d say go for it and live your life sans regrets!
Were you able to contact a professor from a cal state or UC? And if so, do you think I can volunteer at UCI over the summer if I get in contact with a professor?
i don't live in california so i didn't try contacting any professors in california. i think you could definitely try to reach out to one at UCI if you want, but have reasonable expectations. it's not very common for a professor to take on a high school student
I'm doing the IB diploma, and plan on taking the ACT. Do colleges like Stanford like the IB? Will the diploma show as much hard work as doing AP classes? Also, if I plan on taking the ACT, do I also have to take the SAT subject tests???
+Nicole Montgomery i don't know anything about ib but from what i've heard the diploma is more intense than aps? (of course depending how many aps someone takes). but like yes the ib diploma will show that you're challenging yourself so that is certainly a positive on college apps! as for the act and subject tests, some schools don't require subject tests if you take the act, but others do, and idk about stanford specifically, but you can easily google search that :)
this question is kinda late but what if i participated in various sports instead of clubs? i'm just more of an athletic person but my grades are still good. do colleges want you to do more clubs or are sports also a good way to get involved?
+Jenny ngyuen i wrote an email, and i detailed how exactly to go about doing that in my reply to +Shah Saud. i think it's definitely worth doing over the summer, if research is something you think you'd genuinely be interested in! i suggest you first read some abstracts/papers of the professors whose work you're interested in, and see if that's something you'd want to spend an entire summer doing. and then you can try contacting them. but don't be too discouraged if they don't respond positively- they're pretty busy people and don't always have time to mentor high school students.
yeah email is what i did but definitely put a lil thought into it like introduce yourself and explain why you're interested in their research and why you want to work with them specifically
how did you go about finding professors to email for research over the school year and the summer? i'm trying to do the same but i have no idea where to start
well like i just went about it by contacting professors at a university near where i lived because that was most convenient for me. there's also a bunch of programs at various universities that you can apply to. so probably start with thinking about what you want out of your experience with research and then focus your energy on whichever option fits that best
college apps are generally evaluated holistically so an acceptance would be completely dependent on a variety of factors, only one of which is your sat/act score. and especially since i'm not an admissions officer, i really can't say for sure what a "solid score" would be. also it completely depends on what your definition of "top colleges" is. but my personal opinion is that it's a great score and i know people who have gotten into awesome schools with similar and slightly lower scores but that's not to say that there isn't room for improvement and it's completely dependent on your personal situation and the other parts of your app
hey eleni, i just have a quick q because im interested in the intel competition. did you participate in it when you were a senior (which was this past year i guess) thanks.
Thanks so much for all of these great videos. Would u mind sharing how many AP courses you took and if you took all of the AP exams for all of these. Thanks again
Hi! My school doesn't offer any APs and I only just recently decided to apply to the US (I'm Canadian) so the AP exam for when I apply in November has already passed. Is this okay? Is it possible that they could take me without APs? I'm getting mixed responses, but idk u give these good vibes so plz help
Hey Eleni! Thank you so much for doing this video. I truly helped me a lot and gave me some perspective. I have a couple of questions and it would be amazing if you can answer them. In terms of research, you mentioned that you participated in the intel competition. Did you win any national or major awards? Also, did you publish any of your own research papers or did you mainly help a professor? Thank you so much for your time :)
+eleni arizona That is so cool! So you don't have to be good at hard sciences to compete in Intel? Soft science researches like psychology is also allowed? I'm sorry I don't know much about how Intel competitions work lol
+Jonathan Epling umm my school’s gpa system is pretty wacko so idk if that would even be helpful (like it's not out of 4.0 and it has weird weightings and whatnot)
That's a good gpa keep it up, but Stanford doesn't care for freshman year and most colleges don't. USC looks and does care for Freshman year grades however. Just keep up the good work and a lot of colleges will accept you. I believe recommendations and essays are the biggest factoring thing when it comes to admitting a student and your gpa and standardized tests scores are just to see if you will prosper in college. +itsmicaxo i wrote an email, and i detailed how exactly to go about doing that in my reply to +Shah Saud. i worked with my lab for two summers and the school year in between. as for competitions, i myself never did google science fair or went to isef so i'm not sure about the specifics, but the intel and google science fair websites should have instructions on how exactly to apply.

there's a place for you to put them in the common app but colleges don't require it and don't ask you to send in your official scores like they do for sat/act
yeah. there was a kid who applied to some college as his first choice school. because his marks were better than what the college would usually accept they thought he wouldn't actually come. everyone was shocked!
oh my god i cannot believe you got a 35 and a 2310 and people told you to try harder.. that is just absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. most kids would cry if they got scores that high.
yeah........it is pretty ridiculous
people at my school do that too, i got a 1580 and a bunch of ppl told me to retake and i was like wtf
Hears 2310, drops pencil and leaves...
What's the highest possible score for SAT?
+Matt Garcya It was 2400. But now there is the new SAT with a whole new gameplay and its top mark is 1600
Isn't your score good? 2310 to 2400 isn't good????
it's definitely good! my school's just pretty cutthroat
+Matt Garcya I was just being sarcastic :D
Heard 35 on ACT and 2310 on the SAT and I practically started crying. Yea nope. Nope nope nope nope. Still, loved the video and congrats on Stanford.
What'd you studied for those test?
the official sat study guide by college board and the real act prep guide
A 2310/2400 is really good!!! I took the SAT in 7th grade for Duke tip and got a 2150, and congrats on Stanford it would be a dream to go there!
HolaZoila what grade are you in ATM?
HolaZoila why 7th?
HolaZoila you took the sat in the 7th grade and got a 2150?
We had such different approaches to the application haha.
WHO even said that you could try harder in regards to your scores..?! they're amazing!
At my school, if you get a 30 on your ACT or above you get a plaque with your name hung on the wall... and no one at my school has gotten a 35
Ben Martin Wow, your school sucks. Mine is average and we have plenty of 2300+ on our sats. We had a perfect scorer this year :p
Maxim Enis fuck off, test scored are heavily influenced by how much of daddy's money he can throw at private tutors and other resources that most schools don't have. A number from a test doesn't certify intelligence.
Davo You’re Wrong, my brother got a 35 and a 1540 without “tutors” he studied himself so don’t say crap like that
right you're completely wrong i got a 1500 with khan academy and library books fuck off@@davo1822
@@davo1822 The only money I've spent on the ACT was the registration fee and I got a 35
You're the bomb diggity ❤️❤️❤️ CONGRATS ON STAN + OTHERS FAM FEAR THE TREE INDEED
+Amanda Liu is undeniably my #1 fan :D
+Eleni YES

You're still being watched. Love all your workies
Idk why but your voice puts me to sleep
Congrats tho :P
Junk Mail me too
Same
What AP's did you self study? Congrats on Stanford!!! So neat to hear your perspective on the whole application process :)

Congrats, Stanford is my dream school, I'm a sophomore currently and am also doing research at a psychology lab.
how do you find good internships for research when in highschool, and what year should you start trying to do internships?
This was very helpful, thank you!
My highschool is pretty cut throat too but those scores would have still been decent, lmao, where did you go??
What a beast
Hi Eleni, just loved it. thank you very much for the details
Congrats! What major did you apply with, and which did you wind up declaring?
hey i made a pretty similar video with brown and the PLME! nice work :)
Would you think it's bad if I retook an AP test when I got a 4? It's for my self satisfaction as I feel like there were circumstances that might have made me score less... But congrats! You're awesome! :)
colleges only have you self report ap scores anyway so they won't know that you retook it. thank you :)
+Eleni was wondering what's your SAT or act score if you don't mind me asking and what was your GPA like out of whatever system your school had and what was your personal statement about, I know I'm asking a lot of questions but It would help a lot of people including me so thank you!

it depends on the school but many schools will just look at your highest score. definitely go check out each school's specific policies on that
+eleni arizona Okay thank you!
ooh I'd love to read some of your writing I bet it's wonderful!
CONGRATS ELENI! do you have any advice on how to get started on a research position?
Can you please let us know more about your stanford essays?
I'm doing the IB diploma, and plan on taking the ACT. Do colleges like Stanford like the IB? Will the diploma show as much hard work as doing AP classes? Also, if I plan on taking the ACT, do I also have to take the SAT subject tests???

I am in IB and even if you have a full AP scheduel, IB is more extensive, and better looked apon when the diploma is achieved.
Congrats!! Hope Stanford is going well!
How did you contact professors? Was it through a research program for high school students?
What did you talk about when you contacted the college about the phycology job/internship
I really want a research opportunity, but I don't know how to find one as a sophomore in high school? Where do I look?
Yeah same here
this question is kinda late but what if i participated in various sports instead of clubs? i'm just more of an athletic person but my grades are still good. do colleges want you to do more clubs or are sports also a good way to get involved?
TheBeautyReview sports are good too. Just do things that you are passionate about. That's key.
What are good places to submit essays online?
any lit mag should accept creative nonfiction! also scholastic is an awesome competition to submit essays to
Hi Eleni, I'm also intrested in working in university labs, could you give some advises on how to contact the professors? Thanks alot!
I feels the dumb
I was wondering how you contacted the professors from the university. Did you write them a letter? And do you think it is worth doing over the summer?
+Jenny ngyuen i wrote an email, and i detailed how exactly to go about doing that in my reply to +Shah Saud. i think it's definitely worth doing over the summer, if research is something you think you'd genuinely be interested in! i suggest you first read some abstracts/papers of the professors whose work you're interested in, and see if that's something you'd want to spend an entire summer doing. and then you can try contacting them. but don't be too discouraged if they don't respond positively- they're pretty busy people and don't always have time to mentor high school students.
Hi! I was wondering if you submitted both your regular SAT score and your ACT score or did you only send in one of them? Is it good to send in both?
Do you think early or regular decision will have an effect on the admissions process?
I would love to work/volunteer in a laboratory near me, however I am not sure how I should do it. Should I just chuck an email to the professor?
yeah email is what i did but definitely put a lil thought into it like introduce yourself and explain why you're interested in their research and why you want to work with them specifically
Thanks :D i will definitely try (although it seems that most labs would rather take undergrads than highschoolers) i will update u if it works out!
Congrats!! How did you do at Intel?
how did you go about finding professors to email for research over the school year and the summer? i'm trying to do the same but i have no idea where to start

Hi I was wondering if a 33 on the act is a solid score or if it may put me in danger of rejection from colleges (preferably top colleges)
college apps are generally evaluated holistically so an acceptance would be completely dependent on a variety of factors, only one of which is your sat/act score. and especially since i'm not an admissions officer, i really can't say for sure what a "solid score" would be. also it completely depends on what your definition of "top colleges" is. but my personal opinion is that it's a great score and i know people who have gotten into awesome schools with similar and slightly lower scores but that's not to say that there isn't room for improvement and it's completely dependent on your personal situation and the other parts of your app
Bruh I got a 4.21 gpa and a 1500. Can I get into stanford plez?
hey eleni, i just have a quick q because im interested in the intel competition. did you participate in it when you were a senior (which was this past year i guess) thanks.
yeah i submitted in my senior year
+eleni arizona oh wow that was fast lol. thanks so much.
Thanks so much for all of these great videos. Would u mind sharing how many AP courses you took and if you took all of the AP exams for all of these. Thanks again
Hi Eleni, can you post your essays? It would help a bunch!! Thanks
what you study there ? heard like programmers from Stanford are super dope....is it true?
Hi! My school doesn't offer any APs and I only just recently decided to apply to the US (I'm Canadian) so the AP exam for when I apply in November has already passed. Is this okay? Is it possible that they could take me without APs? I'm getting mixed responses, but idk u give these good vibes so plz help
+ZARA MALIK if your school doesn't offer ap classes, colleges can't really expect them from you!
Thank you so much for your time :)
hi! yes i was an intel semifinalist and in order to submit to intel you are required to write your own research report based on your own original work
+eleni arizona That is so cool!
So you don't have to be good at hard sciences to compete in Intel?
Soft science researches like psychology is also allowed? I'm sorry I don't know much about how Intel competitions work lol
yeah behavorial and social sciences is a category
how did you get involved in research? I want do research projects but I don't know where to go or how to start
i actually made a video on how i got involved in research as a high schooler so check that out!
+eleni arizona okay I def will thanks!
Hey! What was your Gpa? I wasn't sure if u covered that!!! Thx this video really helped !!
+Jonathan Epling umm my school’s gpa system is pretty wacko so idk if that would even be helpful (like it's not out of 4.0 and it has weird weightings and whatnot)
Wait do u go to Kings park?
Do you have any tips for ACT takers?!
Is a 4.0 cumulative weighted gpa good for freshman year
That's a good gpa keep it up, but Stanford doesn't care for freshman year and most colleges don't. USC looks and does care for Freshman year grades however. Just keep up the good work and a lot of colleges will accept you. I believe recommendations and essays are the biggest factoring thing when it comes to admitting a student and your gpa and standardized tests scores are just to see if you will prosper in college. Your essays and recommendations tell them about who they are admitting so if you can set yourself apart from the others with good letters of recommendations and essays you won't have a problem just make sure you keep that gpa up.
better get that up if its out of a 5.0 and you want to go to an ivy league school.
weighted (with ap/ out of 5.0) should pretty much always be a 4.0 or above, so just keep adding and you should be okay. freshman year is just a launching pad!
Hey I was just wondering if you can give me so advice to reaching a professor. How you contacted them, how you approached them, how long you worked with them etc.. And I have been thinking about entering intel isef or the google science so if you have any advice in joining or the research process that'd be great too. Thank you!
Did you get in contact with a professor from a cal state?
no i didn't
What was your high school GPA? Thank you for this video it really helped a lot :)
what class did you take in high school?
"If you don't enjoy writing essay, don't apply to that school"
So basically don't apply to any school?
Please film a video on writing tips!
Wait y didn't u say ur gpa? Can you please tell us that info?
What other schools did you apply to?
Can you make a video on how to study and manage time?
working on one right now actually!
eleni arizona NICE 👍🏾 can't wait 😊
eleni arizona it'll so helpful thanks
just posted it on friday :)
eleni arizona thanks :)
Thank u...it is really informative😚
what are you going to study at Stanford?
What exactly is self studying? Is she saying she just read on topics or did she take a course outside of school and got a credit for it?
i just read a review book on it and took the test
Hey Bro i got 1500/1600 in New SAT and i have 2 Android apps on
playstore and a website Coded by me as a part of extracurricular, are
there any chances of mine to be getting in??(My Academics are not so
good)If yes, Then what are my chances?
this is a question best reserved for college confidential !
Did you end up getting accepted from Harvard? Congrats on getting accepted to Stanford btw! :)
no word so far from the harv
Did you do any sports?
no haha
+eleni arizona Thx for replying so soon and that literally gives me soo much hope cause I'm not good at anything physical lol
literally same dw about it :D
Is a 4.5 high enough?
Depends on which school. Some have average gpa of like 4.3 and up up to like 6.0. SO check with your schools
all the ivy league don't have an average of 5.0 or 6.0 lmao
colleges dont ask about your ap scores??? :o
there's a place for you to put them in the common app but colleges don't require it and don't ask you to send in your official scores like they do for sat/act
What major are you taking? Also congrats on getting into Stanford, that takes a lot of work!
i haven't declared my major yet but probably something related to writing/humanities
So are you going there?
+C-Lux yes
Wonderful!
Hey
Congrats on Stanford!!
Had a few questions about research. Could you help?
yeah sure! what's up
eleni arizona could I contact you on your email? Thank you so much!
eleni arizona I'm sorry. Unable to see your email id there. There are just links to your social media there...
you can use my business email, or you can send me a message on tumblr
eleni arizona asked a question a Tumblr 😁
you drag so much I fell asleep watching this lmao
Did you end up getting accepted to the University of Washington??
+Eliot Johnson nope !
that's crazy!
its probably because they thought eleni was just applying to the university of washington as a safety school, and that she wouldn't actually go there.
+Luckylululucy AJ What? They do that?
yeah. there was a kid who applied to some college as his first choice school. because his marks were better than what the college would usually accept they thought he wouldn't actually come. everyone was shocked!
Is a 5.8 GPA high enough ?
What school do you go to? Mine only goes up to 5.0 if you take all ap's
Jesus Christ kid chill the fuck out
"Can you boost my ego for me ?"
No
Means ur school functions on a fake scale people with a 4.5 gpa could have better grades and more rigorous coursework
