    When I’m playing a minor jazz blues I’ll sometimes move up a minor third or a tritone and use a minor scale based on these. Usually it’s a short phrase for a couple of beats or a full measure. Let’s say A minor blues with a measure of C Dorian or Eb Dorian or possibly both.

    Probably the best explanation I've seen of how to play outside. Really detailed examples Ben, thanks for this

    Super video , thankyou Ben , Both great lines lol , more edgy tension on the outside fm scale over the em chord , it’s my favourite scale to move it up a # sometimes I even use f#m or even g#m

    Hi Ben, this is my question: as I see in every instructional material on outside playing that every example is made through a fast phrasing, I'd like to ask you if for playing outside, high speed phrasing is needed.
    Is it possibile to play out melodically?
    Thank you. Mauro

      Thanks Mauro, that's a great question! You can also play slower phrases that are "outside" of the harmony, it's definitely an effective way of creating tension as well!

    Correct me if I am wrong, but I've noticed something interesting with the way you do your lead lines. Do you prefer to lead with your pinky more often than starting your runs with the index finger?

    • @beneunson
      @beneunson  22 дня назад +1

      I would say that is often the case! Great observation

    Nice video… so the 3rd example was really just the second half of of the 1st example right? First example was half step lower and 2nd was half step higher?

    • @beneunson
      @beneunson  Месяц назад

      Thanks for watching - all three examples feature a version of 1 half-step above

    Finally a vid on your secret sauce 🔥 killin', defs one of my favourite outside players! Shoutouts to the "arc is enough" 55 bar solo. Exercise for the viewer: see if you can spot where all the tensions and releases are on that one 😂
