It seems like you had fun with this one, Will. It takes some artistic ability to turn a lamp from scratch with no plan, drawing or anything else and you were up to the task! Looks great and I'm sure the customer will love it. Well done! Phil
Wow, what a gorgeous piece of work Will 🤩 and a great start to the new year... you chose an exceptional piece of wood to make that lamp and turned it to perfection... your client should be VERY happy 😁... thanks for sharing and may 2021 bring you LOADS of jobs 🤗
Hi Will! Happy New Year - Great to see you back. Lovely work as always. thanks for sharing. (My knee is healing, but a slow painful exercise process - thanks for asking) Hope to be back on the lathe by the end of January! Regards Dennis
Hi Will, I really, really like this lamp. At times I was wondering where you were going with the shape. I should have just been patient. Great work Will and a Happy New Year. Cheers, Huw
Thanks matey :) this was the suck it and see approach to lamp design, feeling it out, it was such pretty wood! I don't like end grain turning, but this was pretty fun despite the cold 😁 Thanks for watching! P.s 1 clock coming right up sir!
Man, that is some beautiful wood Will - light spots on a tan background, just beautiful !!! Nice lamp to boot ! Client should be chuffed !! Thank you 🙏 Stay safe. -Mike😷💉 p.s. Your lathe is just purring - did you do some maintenance or something ? And some Yank & Brit equivalents: to boot=also and happy=chuffed
That old girl will run forever, I did zero maintenance Haha. She is going to get a treat when I move her to her new home soon though. Client is pretty happy :) it's the 4th lamp I've made her, 3 for her kids and this one for her!
@@willmakeseverything3829Now I'm willing to come and help move the shop ? I probably can actually help with that (Piano and stairs. Doubt I can help). But after I get vaccine otherwise they won't let me in eh? Ha, I knew it was a client and not just a customer. And don't worry, you'll be my age and still be asked to turn things. *old girl* She's like an old car - runs forever and cheap and easy. To fix.
Thanks mate :) i don't have many bits of birch this size, only from the base of a few trees that were about 70 years old, shoukd make some nice bowls too and will be nice to see that spalting running the other direction :)

Thanks for saying so matey! I love free turning, just letting the wood decide where it wants to take me, I learned that from you I think 😁
Awesome lamp Will, truly beautiful! I’m sure your customer loved it!
Thanks for sharing!

Reminds me of the spalting I get in Swamp Alder here. Doesn't come in pieces that big though. Nice work.

@@willmakeseverything3829 Looking forward to seeing them.
I really like that lamp. Did the customer give any instruction or did that come from you. Well done either way
Hi Norma! This one just came from me, it's nice when you get to be free with these things :)
Nice one, if you rub it does a Genie appear? lol.
😂 no you just get tung wax on your fingers haha
Ewwww, Tongue Wax, haha.
It's good stuff but you need to harvest it fresh! 😂
:D
How do you fix it when your tailstock is off center?
Undo some bolts on the bed and bang with big hammer! I have to move the lathe soon so it'll have to suffice for now :)
