Went to Verizon and messed with the phone. I personally think the display is fine , whoever doesnt like it please cancel your order so that I can receive mine faster. thanks, much appreciated
atl3630 burn in can happen to any device, the one I messed with has been on everyday, all day for over a week and it had no issues. Yah it’s not as vivid as the Samsung’s but it’s not that bad
If LG does it then mock them for making a metal phone feel like plastic, but if google does it then it is "one of those tiny changes that google put into this phone that makes all the difference", I wonder why is that?
You guys had bashed Sony for it's washed out colors when viewing at an angle and now you guys are saying it won't be much of an issue.. makes me wonder if you guys are doing paid reviews...
byronvisiado09 well am not saying the phone is bad.. I am thinking of buying it myself.. I only pointed out how these guys changed their stance from Sony to Google.. pretty sure if this phone was by Sony they would have made a big deal out of that screen problem
This video is not sponsored. If it were, they would say so in the video or the description (otherwise it would be illegal). Sony should rightfully get shit for their screen if it has problems because it is one of their major selling points, especially when they try to market screen superiority with 4K HDR displays. This was a pretty balanced review, and didn't shy away from highlighting weak points like the Pixel screen and lack of headphone jack. He also left out a big positive; the fact that the Pixel 2/2XL have an image processor ("Pixel Visual Core") that is dormant in the phones. When activated in a future update, the already superb camera should get a nice performance boost (this isn't even it's final form!).
got mine last week, I'm loving the experience it's excellent. The screen is the way it's supposed to be and not over saturated and fake looking. I have no complaints here. BTW, the camera is amazing.
I understand concerns about the pixel display to. I was about to cancel my order as well but decided not to take the reviewers word and go check for myself . So I went to Verizon and came away quite surprised. If you cancelled you order or having second thoughts I would suggest go see for yourself. The display is really good. I came away baffled about all the fuss of the pixel 2 xl display. I believe alot of the reviews and articles written are just click bait now. Again I was happy with the display.
The display issues are just about Google's calibration of colours and they are trying to make P- OLED display to look like LCD display with more natural colours as the same panel also present on V30 too but nobody complained about displays , Google promised to give more colour calibration options in future Which so many will Love
KL Tah I didn't said there is no problem with display viewing Angles or Noise but these are the issues that Google can fix in future updates by tweaking the colours and blue tint by providing more calibrating options
sbn025 well, that was because Samsung couldn’t even release a fully functional bixby and people hated the bixby was forced on the phones. At least with squeeze, there’s no pointless hardware button
He forgot to mention the fact that the Pixel 2/2XL have an image processor ("Pixel Visual Core") that is dormant in the phones. When activated in a future update, the already superb camera should get a nice performance boost (this isn't even it's final form!). Can't wait to see the follow up review.
This was the first time I thought you were biased in your review. Making excuses is something that shouldn't have to be done for a phone with an expensive price tag and it sounded like to me you were making excuses.
Not really he said tht the pixel 2 fall short of a phone that cost $1000. But most people buying these want it for the pure Android experience. He pointed that out in his closing.
I had my preorder in from the start but when all the issues came up I cancelled I really thought the pixel was there this year so am going iphone x this year and I will have another go at pixel next year I wanna switch back to android but not for a display like that............display is everything you constantly look at it and I'd rather have the notch then these imperfections of pixel atlease the iphone x is in a small body with a samsung screen that is going to be beautiful
as suspected, the squeeze feature is now a great function and everyone wishes it was programmable, now that google has it. when htc innovated on this it was a gimmick
Yall are some serious conspiracy theorists that this is paid by Google. He literally said the display on the 2 XL is not great, pointing out the blue tint and dull colors. What more do you want? The main reasons (imo) you would ever get a Pixel phone is for the smooth, buttery, bloat-free stock Android experience, and more recently, a phenomenal camera. If you want an amazing display, get a Samsung and have fun with TouchWiz.
Mine is set to ship this week. I'm looking forward to it. I checked out the Pixel 2 XL at Verizon near me and it was great. I didn't see anything with the screen that bothered me all that much. However, I am upgrading from a Moto X Pure 2015. So yeah, it's a huge jump. This phone FLIES. I couldn't believe how quick and speedy it was. Looking forward to the updates as well. My Moto X is still on Marshmallow and hasn't gotten a security update for over a year. :(
Josh gives the most in-depth, glorious reviews... Thanks for another one, Josh! I didn't care for the design of the Pixel 2/XL much when it was originally announced. I think it's growing on me... I might order one for myself later this year as a present.

There's clearly a variable rate in how much this affects each device, and I wish we could get answers from Google on this.
Landon Shimpa same here! I was really looking forward to it but I know that I won't be able to deal with a bad display. I'm fine with no headphone jack as I prefer worked headphones sheerly for the convenience of no cord in the way.
Tom Provido idk, just spending close to 1k on a phone that I don't truly need is a hard sell if the screen is going to give me a couple issues. Now I have some extra cash laying around for something else fun :D
Bjorn Hermansen yeah man it's such a bummer! I think the device looks great, I don't care about no headphone Jack either for the same reasons, I madly miss my front firing speakers, but I truly don't need the phone. My original XL still chugging along pretty well.
Landon Shimpa I think the only issue with the pixel 2 is the viewing angle when looking at the side of the screen. I think you can refund / take it back to the store whenever you don't like it. Just give it a chance.
In that little bit of audio recorded with the phone mic, it actually sounded less boomy and picked up less background noise than your external mic (and sounded more human). Just needs some de-essing. I'm sure there are better mics, but maybe not the one in your audio kit.

So, will Google Lens' probability of success go up in the coming months? You did say it only works around half the time, but you also said that it isn't all the way here yet.
Why would the Pixel 2 and XL support Quick Charge? Didn't Google strongly discourage proprietary fast charging technology and wanted all manufacturers adopt USB Power Delivery?
I've had the Pixel 2 (non XL) since the release date and it's definitely an upgrade to my old iPhone. PROS: - It works like butter, super smooth. - The camera is amazing. - It charges extremely fast with the stock adapter/cord and it goes through a full day (regular use) flawlessly; I'm usually left with 25-35% at the end of the day. - Screen on this phone (not the XL) works great. - Simply how Marques put it, it's a very smart smartphone. CONS: - No headphone jack, (which I got used to and I don't mind since battery life is great on this phone I don't need both ports at same time.) The headphone adapter comes in the box as well; no headphones though! - Does feel a bit fragile without a case on it. I dropped it once without a case on it and it did get a little ding on a corner but nothing cracked on the phone (I got a case the next day). CASE IS RECOMMENDED. - When I'm using it in my car connected on Bluetooth, sometimes the sound glitches which makes me think I got a notification when I didn't and that bugs me, but the glitches rarely happen however. Overall, I would recommend the smaller Pixel 2. I do not know about the XL as I have not tried it. The bezels on mine do not bother me. It works like a racehorse and the software just feels smooth af. Superb camera with great battery life as well. So far, great phone.
Shpendi Azizi I still have one too LOL. It sits in my drawer now. I use a 3T now. Sent my XL in for trade-in then cancelled my 2 XL. Once my credit hits I'll be buying the XL again. I'll just wait for the 3 XL
I ordered the XL but seeing as that the specs are pretty much the same and hearing these screen issues on the XL. Should I change my order from the 2XL to the 2? I would basically trade looks for better display and ergonomics.
Poor build (JerryRigEverything) No Headphone Jack No Wireless Charging No Wide-angle Camera Lens No Thank You I was excited at start but the more I think about it, the more sense it makes to buy the LG V30 or the One Plus 5.
the problem is there is so much of that plastic "coating" on the back that its not really gonna seem like metal and will scratch much easier. edit: other problem I have is that for 1) google photos requires an internet connection so unless your constantly tethered to wifi, it might be an issue, and 2) it just allows for storage of photos and video which (at least for me personally), is the least of my worries when it comes to storage capacity.
Front-facing stereo speakers are gold. Would love to see them much more often! And camera is undoubtedly good. But no second camera?.. Relatively bad display, no headphone jack, no wireless charging for THAT price? No, thank you
Hey Joshua some of us appreciate the metal feel. If they put that coating this year they just should have gone with plastic cause even google doesn’t know how to call it.
[Mi[ch]elin] - Definitely skip the Note 8. Bad customer service from Samsung and just horrible user experiences overall. The 3 people I know who went and got the Note 8 have had nothing but problems with them and Samsung won't replace their phones. Just keep "repairing" them...
Only day 5 with the Pixel 2 and am loving this phone coming from HTC 10. The camera is simply incredible and got all kinds of comments about the pictures at a family event this weekend with a bunch of iPhone users. The user experience is buttery smooth. Having some bluetooth issues with my car, but I assume they will push updates to address them. I find myself using active edge and consequently, assistant more. I always felt stupid saying Ok Google. Now, (with the phone off) I can just squeeze and ask my question/give a command. No screen burn in issues so far, but I am so so happy I pulled the trigger on this.
Bamboo Well, I checked it and it's not fast charging. It's charging at 5v and 1.5a. The one thing to note is that I don't have a USB type C QC3.0 charger, so this is with a short USB Type A to USB Micro cable with a USB Micro to Type C adapter. I'm not sure if that invalidates the test, but that's what I've got.
The Pixel 2 is the first smartphone by Google to "ditch" the 3.5-mm headphone jack, since Apple has made headlines when they removed it from the iPhone 7 back in 2016 and every subsequent one. Now that the headphone jack is no longer implemented, you can only use wireless headphones, or headphones on a USB-C cable (or headphones on a lightning cable for iPhones).
I like how, google does what Apple has been doing for years, making a phone that isn’t feature rich, but is reliable, optimized and just works, yet everyone hates on it. But when google does it, you automatically readjust you expectations for what it can do, and praise it for the same things you said apple shouldn’t be doing. Maybe it’s just me.
This is what bothers me a little... when LG introduced the G5 with the same paint primer covering the metal everyone shit on LG saying it was cheap bla bla bla... when HTC introduced the squeeze feature everyone called it a useless gimmick that no one asked for, when in reality it is super handy and useful and unlike this Pixel phone you can actually use the squeeze feature to launch ANY app or actions on your phone but of course since it's HTC no one pays attention. Now Google does the same ONLY for the Google assistant and all the sudden it's cool and useful... The power of marketing and money.
...Zack (Jerry Rig) disclosed on his durability test that at least for the Pixel 2, the back had that paint/plastic coating that was reminiscent of the LG G5... He said he would do a separate test on the 2XL to see if it was the same build...
Finally someone addressed the audio issue.. the audio recorded via the microphone tho full bodied, always sounded tinny & harsh. No one confirmed it before. So if u can look past the screen, microphone quality, blotchiness, etc. Etc u have a good phone. Ironic isn't it? P.S. Personally I'm still pumped bout dat camera.
My questions are: you can deactivate the always now playing? I wouldn't like to have that on. And the phone takes photos inmediately? Due the HDR+ I imagine it takes a while, specially in burst mode.
I feel the same way this guy does about the screen issues. If it looks fine when I'm viewing straight on, then why should I care about a slight blue tint when turning the angle? This is coming from someone who works in the cg industry. I use projectfi, I'm beginning to hate my nexus6p and I can't go back to a smaller phone. Unless it has major Bluetooth issues and a camera that crashes constantly like Nexus does, then it's my new phone
Went to Verizon and messed with the phone. I personally think the display is fine , whoever doesnt like it please cancel your order so that I can receive mine faster. thanks, much appreciated
Same here, but man, it's just barely fine. And add in the burn-in risk and...it's not a confident purchase.
they will probably release an update that helps with some of the issues.
Google fanboy spotted
ELEXCEER lol I actually have an iPhone right now , I’m just not incredibly biased to one side
atl3630 burn in can happen to any device, the one I messed with has been on everyday, all day for over a week and it had no issues. Yah it’s not as vivid as the Samsung’s but it’s not that bad
The blue tint? I don't notice it on my Pixel 2XL.
If LG does it then mock them for making a metal phone feel like plastic, but if google does it then it is "one of those tiny changes that google put into this phone that makes all the difference", I wonder why is that?
Rishant Dutt Funny thing is, LG made this phone for Google 😂
I'm a simple man.
I see Josh, I don't go back.
DoubleATech i read single*
Agreed, he's one of the best reviewers on RUclips
You guys had bashed Sony for it's washed out colors when viewing at an angle and now you guys are saying it won't be much of an issue.. makes me wonder if you guys are doing paid reviews...
Of course they are.
Lol right? Although I would put on money on the Sony phone sucking at most other things the pixel probably does really well.
byronvisiado09 well am not saying the phone is bad.. I am thinking of buying it myself.. I only pointed out how these guys changed their stance from Sony to Google.. pretty sure if this phone was by Sony they would have made a big deal out of that screen problem
True but Sony is just garbage regardless, I wouldn't spend $800 on Sony crap
This video is not sponsored. If it were, they would say so in the video or the description (otherwise it would be illegal). Sony should rightfully get shit for their screen if it has problems because it is one of their major selling points, especially when they try to market screen superiority with 4K HDR displays.

In other words you're a fanboy or a Google employee
The Pixel 2 XL would of been a nice upgrade from my 6P. But hearing all these display issues turned me off. :/
I was planninng on getting too. I hope they have a recall :/
I understand concerns about the pixel display to. I was about to cancel my order as well but decided not to take the reviewers word and go check for myself . I also feel disappointed, considering upgrade from 6P to XL 2
Why do people love the feel of the pixels this year but hated the g5 for having the same finish?
and why bash Sammy for bixby unmappable button and not google for unmappable squeeze thing?
and why the hate on bixby vision but praise the google lens
sbn025 well, that was because Samsung couldn’t even release a fully functional bixby and people hated the bixby was forced on the phones. At least with squeeze, there’s no pointless hardware button
sbn025 because a hardware button is a lot more obvious than a squeeze gesture.
I said the same thing.
i have high hopes of buying this in 2022
RockNRolla666 Haha...... *high* hopes....
Khanin the Uhnahkian Lmao
You don't really want this by then.
did you buy it bro ? it is 2022 :)
10:47 what wallpapers are you guys using?
He forgot to mention the fact that the Pixel 2/2XL have an image processor ("Pixel Visual Core") that is dormant in the phones. When activated in a future update, the already superb camera should get a nice performance boost (this isn't even it's final form!). Can't wait to see the follow up review.
Watching this on my Pixel 2 XL. I really like it!
Prepaid Karma hi. I am postpaid karma.
Ordered the Pxl 2 Xl but wondering if I should cancel it :/
PONdENDS.COM cancel it and get the oneplus 5T in a few weeks mate
Go get the s8 and put a launcher on it. It beats it in every aspect
You can get a new unlocked s8 plus for like $600 now on Amazon. Cancel it.
Or the lg v30
PONdENDS.COM until google has addressed the issue of screen burn in maybe you should
This was the first time I thought you were biased in your review. Making excuses is something that shouldn't have to be done for a phone with an expensive price tag and it sounded like to me you were making excuses.
Brian West exactly!
Not really he said tht the pixel 2 fall short of a phone that cost $1000. But most people buying these want it for the pure Android experience. He pointed that out in his closing.
Review seemed bias to me
Not the first time.
Stop it. Many of you complaining, wasn't buying this phone anyway.
79bnice it's a great phone with a very bad display! For $800 you should expect more.
Ok so why are the camera and flash positions switched from the standard Pixel to the Pixel XL?
What headphones are there at 2:23?
Yall are some serious conspiracy theorists that this is paid by Google. He literally said the display on the 2 XL is not great, pointing out the blue tint and dull colors. What more do you want? The main reasons (imo) you would ever get a Pixel phone is for the smooth, buttery, bloat-free stock Android experience, and more recently, a phenomenal camera. If you want an amazing display, get a Samsung and have fun with TouchWiz.
can you share that wallpaper at 10:46?
If they had headphone jacks, a better design, and lower prices, then I'd definitely buy it.
I will buy the next pixel 🤑
romie cruz That's what I thought after I figured out about the 1st Pixel. (I'm not interested in the Pixel 2)
They need to bring the headphone jack back in the next one, or they'll lose a big part of consumer base including me
+Brenda princesa Lindaa Bad move. They're gonna piss Pixel 2 users.
How's the smaller Pixel's display? Does it have burn in? Not vibrant? Blue tint?
What's the name of the Bluetooth earphones showed at 2:20?
The review doesn't make a big deal about the blue shift because it's barely apparent in the unit being reviewed. I received a Pixel 2 XL where the blue shift was MUCH more apparent than what was shown in this video, and returned it.
There's clearly a variable rate in how much this affects each device, and I wish we could get answers from Google on this.
Unfortunately canceled my order last night of the XL. Sad day :/
Landon Shimpa why?
Good review. You don't spread negativity like many other reviewers and stick to practical things. Keep it up!!
In that little bit of audio recorded with the phone mic, it actually sounded less boomy and picked up less background noise than your external mic (and sounded more human). Just needs some de-essing. I'm sure there are better mics, but maybe not the one in your audio kit.
I’ve seen a few videos where they seem to believe it’s more of an image retention issue than burn in. It seems the nav bar ghosting disappears after a few seconds of scrolling passed it with a dark image. I’m not excusing it by any means, it’s still unacceptable but perhaps a better case scenario than screen burn after a few days of use. I’m concerned myself, my unit just shipped today.
Am I the only one to think that Pixel actually looked great, even better than these Pixel 2s which are kind of weird and old fashioned for 2017
I was hoping Lanh would do the review he's more bold IMO.
I hate it when reviewers say, "Despite of all the negatives, you can't go wrong with either devices"
What are the earbuds at 2:24?
So, will Google Lens' probability of success go up in the coming months? You did say it only works around half the time, but you also said that it isn't all the way here yet.
Which is better Pixel 2 XL or V30? Which would you prefer or recommend?
Not one mention of any screen issues.
What external mic did u use on the pixel?
Why would the Pixel 2 and XL support Quick Charge? Didn't Google strongly discourage proprietary fast charging technology and wanted all manufacturers adopt USB Power Delivery?
Was that sot screenshot of the regular or the XL?
Finally He(Vergara) is Back!
What's up with the display at 5:50?
Do you think the normal pixel 2 is a good phone if you dont care of big bezels and no headphone jack? And was the 5hours of SoT for the 2xl or 2?
Hey, could you point me to the audio recording equipment you use on your rig with this phone?
Why did you canceled AA podcast! I really liked one of those
wallpaper at 10:45 pleaseee can anyone tell me where i can get it
I've had the Pixel 2 (non XL) since the release date and it's definitely an upgrade to my old iPhone.

Overall, I would recommend the smaller Pixel 2. I do not know about the XL as I have not tried it. The bezels on mine do not bother me. It works like a racehorse and the software just feels smooth af. Superb camera with great battery life as well. So far, great phone.
How’s the call quality?
And here I'm still using my beloved Nexus 5 !
Shpendi Azizi How’s the battery?
Shpendi Azizi I still have one too LOL. It sits in my drawer now. I use a 3T now. Sent my XL in for trade-in then cancelled my 2 XL. Once my credit hits I'll be buying the XL again. I'll just wait for the 3 XL
is it worth buying with the screen problem??
which one should i get, the pixel 2 xl or the note 8
I ordered the XL but seeing as that the specs are pretty much the same and hearing these screen issues on the XL. Should I change my order from the 2XL to the 2? I would basically trade looks for better display and ergonomics.
Random question but what glasses are you wearing?
no headphone jack 😥😥
Who's Jack? No one knows... but keep asking Lew.
Is it worth upgrading from a s8+?
7:38 lol, "That way you can take your pic..." Did anyone else catch that pun?
Anyone else still getting the pixel 2 XL?
Luke Genesis Nope, not anymore. 👎
Poor build (JerryRigEverything)
No Headphone Jack
No Wireless Charging
No Wide-angle Camera Lens
No Thank You
I was excited at start but the more I think about it, the more sense it makes to buy the LG V30 or the One Plus 5.
I'd wait for the next generation. The screen is a deal breaker.
Raghavendra Ravi That was the non XL version that jerryrig tested
Still getting the Pixel 2 XL here. My ship date is only a month away. *sigh*
Thanks for recommending those cases. I know it was the sponsor, but still. I was looking for a thin case like that.
can it shoot in raw? thats whats matter to me
can you compare the LG v30 and the pixel 2 XL? i know that on paper they are identical but how do they function on a day to day bases?
the problem is there is so much of that plastic "coating" on the back that its not really gonna seem like metal and will scratch much easier.
edit: other problem I have is that for 1) google photos requires an internet connection so unless your constantly tethered to wifi, it might be an issue, and 2) it just allows for storage of photos and video which (at least for me personally), is the least of my worries when it comes to storage capacity.
Front-facing stereo speakers are gold. Would love to see them much more often! And camera is undoubtedly good. But no second camera?.. Relatively bad display, no headphone jack, no wireless charging for THAT price? No, thank you
Joshua Vergara is Android Authority.
Hey Joshua some of us appreciate the metal feel. If they put that coating this year they just should have gone with plastic cause even google doesn’t know how to call it.
Pixel 2 XL or NOTE 8 ?
[Mi[ch]elin] - Definitely skip the Note 8. Bad customer service from Samsung and just horrible user experiences overall. The 3 people I know who went and got the Note 8 have had nothing but problems with them and Samsung won't replace their phones. Just keep "repairing" them...
Any day pure android aka Pixel 2 XL 😎
Note 8!.... 2 xl made by lg already got burn issues
What were those Bluetooth headphones ??
This phone is nexus 6p with less bezel, no headphone jack and $200 more?
Did htc design the xl?
Wait, it's Quick Charge 3.0 compatible???
It makes me wonder too,PD and qc3.0 compatible?
Bamboo Well, I checked it and it's not fast charging. It's charging at 5v and 1.5a. The one thing to note is that I don't have a USB type C QC3.0 charger, so this is with a short USB Type A to USB Micro cable with a USB Micro to Type C adapter. Now that the headphone jack is no longer implemented, you can only use wireless headphones, or headphones on a USB-C cable (or headphones on a lightning cable for iPhones).
Or use QC3? Isn't the included charger a quick charger capable???
So you guys didn't even mention screen burn in ?
Having seen other reviews the screen problem is serious ! And it is effecting a lot of users .
I now know why all reviews for this phone show the phone's back. The screen. What do you guys have to say about the burn-in problem?
I've checked out 3 or 4 XL2 pixels in store here in aus. Blue tint was hardly an issue.
The most eminent question! where did you get that oreo
SUBHANKAR NATH I believe from the special Android O event Google did the day of the eclipse
Does the camera perform the same on all apps? That's one of the worst things on Android phones.
Yo - that wallpaper at 3:56 - I want that. Anyone know where to get it?
This is what bothers me a little... when LG introduced the G5 with the same paint primer covering the metal everyone shit on LG saying it was cheap bla bla bla... when HTC introduced the squeeze feature everyone called it a useless gimmick that no one asked for, when in reality it is super handy and useful and unlike this Pixel phone you can actually use the squeeze feature to launch ANY app or actions on your phone but of course since it's HTC no one pays attention. Now Google does the same ONLY for the Google assistant and all the sudden it's cool and useful... The power of marketing and money.
So if u get android 8 in any phone it could update its your only gonna have the white background???
...Zack (Jerry Rig) disclosed on his durability test that at least for the Pixel 2, the back had that paint/plastic coating that was reminiscent of the LG G5...
All these "reviewers", slammed the hell out of the G5 for having the same painted finish. Now what? It's good?
My questions are: you can deactivate the always now playing? I wouldn't like to have that on. And the phone takes photos inmediately? Due the HDR+ I imagine it takes a while, specially in burst mode.
is that Norm from Tested?
Not one mention of the U11 when talking about the squeeze feature. Kinda let down by that.
Link to the cases?
Why would you record where there is so much background noise??
I didn't know Josh is a wrestling fan. Is that a Brahma Bull t-shirt, if you smeeeell what The Rock is cooking??
Awesome review Josh I'm gonna pick up the 2XL
So the Pixel and Pixel XL both don't come with a headphone jack? That's kind of a bumer tbh.
Another youtuber completely ignore the horrific display. Yes its a good software experience, but hardware is the more important. And its slacking.
Why would you want to look at your screen at odd angles? I think screens were meant to be looked at directly on!!
Hey! Where to get those android Oreo cookie!!!
Why do the plus/s/xl/upgraded model exist of a flagship
Did it burn in yet?
Man. I love how your videos look and feel...
So glad I watched this first. No audio jack is a deal breaker. Getting first gen Pixel just for that.
