As someone who currently works at a wegmans bakery the part about tough working conditions is true. We have had multiple employees who have left because of the department manager. I have also been told by them that I was “undermining” their authority because I asked a coworker if a product was too hot to pack. Not to mention all the gaslighting and toxicity that takes place. I am planning to either transfer or leave completely within the next few months. Wegmans needs to look into the working conditions at the bakery more because it’s clear that it is a problem at many stores. I still think that wegmans is a good place to work, except for the bakery. The store managers outside of the department do a lot of cool things for us like having some really good food in the break room. It just sucks that experiences like these makes me feel different about some aspects of the company.
Agree, but in my experience it's not just bakery. Most areas are understaffed and mistreated. Sub shop, deli and customer service are a few absolutely miserable departments I can think of. Honestly the bakery was way better than the dept I started in, but it also declined to toxicity over time once they were changing managers every year. Why? I don't know. Changing managers often seems ignorant and unproductive and the result was worse than that. Honestly to be frank, Wegmans needs to pay better, drop the cult vibe, and either be fair to employees or allow a union.
@@smartax56 So many places call themselves "best place to work rated by employees" it is usually lies. If you offered all those employees some other job with a slight pay raise. I bet most would leave that moment.
The organic produce is disgusting! Rarely unless it’s Thanksgiving do they have anything remotely fresh looking. It’s much better at Walmart. Buy potatoes there? They will grow eyes by the next day. NONE are fresh. But my biggest problem is their poor refrigeration of the items. If you go back to where the dairy is such as cream cheese, etc. you’ll see them piled so high inside an open cooler that none of the ones that are on the top will be getting any refrigeration. I’ve seen their own thermometers reading well above 40°. I’ve also seen the frozen coolers defrosting and there’s tons of water all over everything and everything is melted in the bags. I’ve gotten sick on things that I’ve bought there before absolutely because of the refrigeration issue. All those prepackaged fresh meals that you see in all those cases Are made with the worst quality ingredients, they look so good like meatloaf, mashed potatoes, but they taste horrible. There’s chunks of bone in them tons of ingredients, none of it is natural and I no longer buy get sucked in by buying these good looking premade dinners. The only thing that I will buy at Wegmans are the premade salads which are quite good, but none of those are organic. Lastly, there is a very offputting sign when you walk in the door, threatening people who are coming to look at prices and compare them to their own business saying if you have a question about prices come to the service desk and ask, I mean really how bitchy is that? It makes them look so so bad. Not a fan.
I grew up in Rochester and know the original Wegman's store. My complaint is, they kept getting bigger and bigger. I don't want to walk several miles just to get groceries. The parking lot in the Pittsford store (rich suburb) is massive and of course, the only spot you'll find is down at the end a half mile from the entrance. Add in bad weather with snow/slush everywhere, and it's off-putting, chugging your grocery cart through it all. The bakery wares are too sweet without any nuance; just sugar, fat and more sugar. If they learned anything from European pastry chefs, I didn't try it.
What do you think are the best baked goods at Wegmans' bakeries?
The Ultimate Chocolate Cake is pretty popular in Rochester.
Thank you to Wegmans’ for the food donations to all the food pantries. I was able to try the most delicious chocolate pudding pie I ever tasted!😋❤️

Wegmans is consistently rated as one of the best places to work by its employees
i worked at wegmans. those ratings are very misleading. its a great place to shop, it's far from one of the best places to work

Trust, the people who work there, especially, the food safety!
Are those jerky sticks in the carrot peeling clip? Would love to see how that would be incorporated with those ingredients. Lol
I’m so glad to hear that Wegmans is not going along with the masses of the pride celebrations. We need more store to set the example.

What is Wegmans?
Started in upstate New York (Rochester), now spreading to the entire North East of the U.S.
Insects welcome!
Why do i need to watch this video instead of just going to reddit ?
