  • Welcome to my personal growing review for “Dannahue” newly introduced by David Austin roses in 2023
this new release was in flower very early on this season, and in total produced no fewer than three flushes of flowers in a single season, this year I’m hoping it will be four
The blooms are a beautiful, rich apricot colour, tinged with an iridescent, sheen,, which reflects the light beautifully.
To go alongside the apricot flowers the shrub produces the most attractive, burgundy red growth tips as it comes into flower, the entire shrub changing colour as it matches forward to blooming
Even as a small, specimen, it’s capable of bearing, at least 100 flowers at once, by the end of the first season, it had already reached nearly 4 feet tall, I have chosen to plant mine in an incredibly large terracotta pot as per David Austin, instructions in dappled shade, where it receives just three or four hours of direct sunlight per day here it has performed really well,
If you love Royal Jubilee, Wollaton old Hall and have missed out on adding Jude the obscure to your rose collection. This is going to be the perfect addition for you out, performing them all on every aspect.
The fragrance is great, powerful yet clean it’s hybrid tea based with a fresh edge of green tea finnished with grapefruits and lemon zest,
    Fragrance rating 7⭐️s

Beautiful goblet apricot blooms. Sort of like Roald Dahl’s big brother.

A little yes, the flower on this one is much more open and has no cupping to the outer edges

Had my first flower this week and many buds at different stages. Unfortunately I've got a fair amount of black spot on mine. Smells very lovely.

Are you growing it in a pot or in the ground? Unfortunately this season is a little bit of a disease bomb we had owned incredibly mild winter meaning many spores and funguses weren’t killed off by winter frost. We’ve then had a incredibly cool and wet spring and starts to the summer with nighttime temperature temperature still struggling to get above 10° so unfortunately black spot is rife this year including in my garden which is very abnormal.

@@the_gardenerben it's still in its DA pot waiting for putting in the garden. Still not showing roots at the bottom of the pot so not risking putting it into shock. It looks very healthy otherwise and starting to flower. Certainly don't want to be using chemicals. Thanks for the response Ben. All the other ones are looking fabulous.

@@markvincent5241 I would be inclined to remove the affected leaves and go ahead and plant it. Hopefully you’ve seen my guide to handling a potted plant. This is best done as the sunsets so now somewhere in the region of about seven or 8 o’clock in the evening one of the big drawbacks of recent changes towards more sustainable compost is that they really don’t hold water very well and even if you’re watering it intently which I’m sure you are it’s very likely to be drying out. I think that by now is its way through its pot as it should’ve been potted somewhere in the region of about mid to late March.

@@the_gardenerben it was the last one I bought so would be about 6 weeks ago. I have it sat in a shallow terracotta pot which I make sure has always water in along with the rest. I'll get it sorted over the weekend as back to work early evening. Thanks for advice Ben, very much appreciated.

Agree on the shade point. It was blooming for me in November in full shade with no direct sunlight (as the sun was too low and the fence was shading it). Mine is a lovely round bush, but it needs hard prune almost down to the very low. Mine isn't really that fragrant though

Thank you for your videos. I've planted David Austin roses in my garden since the early 1990s and still love them. When will the Dannahue rose be available in the USA?
