Great tips. You are so right the poke check is your best buddy. A good defenseman can make a offensive player go where the defenseman wants him to go if the D man is positioned correctly forcing them to the outside resulting in a bad angle shot or no shot at all. One of my favorite things to do which frustrated the heck out of people is a stick check, lifting their stick with mine and pick pocketing the puck.
The amount of bruises I’ve had over the years blocking shots. It feels good when the goalie thanks me tho. Thing I can’t stress enough is matching speed. This is where most guys get burned. If that guy is coming full speed at you, you really need to get moving to match their speed. Getting caught flat footed is the worst.
For all new Defensemen: Don't look down at the puck when defending. Don't look at the offensive players eyes. Focus on their chest. That tells you where they are going. Body them up without checking them hard to get them off the puck and then move it out. If you focus on looking at the puck they'll fake you out all the time.
Nice job teaching about inline hockey. I am a skater not a hockey player but I think that hockey skating is the best technique and I want to learn all the techniques hockey skating has to ise them on the street. Thanks a lot for making videos on how to skate. Please make videos of drills and practices like those guys of ice hockey do, in order to learn more about the techniques of inline skating. For example, I have problems trusting my outside edge turns. I haven't been able to make the turn well. Thanks.
I'm glad to help and thanks for the support! I plan to keep making videos for as long as I can. There will be more skating videos but if you haven't seen it I made a video on skating techniques ruclips.net/video/c-MuUlkf9lc/видео.html. This will help a lot with your skating. The big thing you have to do to help your turning is make sure you put your inside foot ahead of the outside foot (turn right right foot is in front, left left foot is in front), lean into the turn and turn with the upper part of your body and look the direction you want to turn. Your feet will follow
My biggest piece of advice for this is watch your positioning, this is HUGE! Play "Be A Pro" mode on NHL '22, helps teach you what you are responsible for and really helps with positioning. And also, man up on D, encourage/remind your teammates to man up on D. There shouldn't be more than 1 player on another player, or you leave an opponent wide open. Good luck and have fun!
I have the hardest time when talented guys enter my zone and then cross over the middle. In contact you'd hit them but in no contact hockey how do I stop them without a bodycheck? These are always guys who have big toe drags so I can't easily get the puck.
my rule regarding jumping up to join the rush: if AND ONLY IF one of the forwards is being all draggedy-ass and the rush needs an extra guy, i go. with the assumption that the slowpoke is gonna cover me.
On defense the last thing you want to do is stand right in front of you goalie because they can’t see through you. They are better at blocking the puck then the defense. Just get as close to the puck as you can to block it and the goalie still has room to see the puck

We just have to wear those bruises as battle scars
five bruises in one game
Or you could be like the Canucks and leave it all to the goalie

Work on you backwards crossovers. It allows you to move side to side easier

That’s awesome. Having friends who already play is supper helpful getting into the sport. Enjoy it man

I love the math at the beginning lol
Good stuff. Looks like someone scored 8.
The info is great but I would like a demonstration
1:06 bro sounded like it was personal to him
My coach aka my dad says to get in front goalie but I usually go up a bit

👍
Not even shinguards?
Even aggressive inline skaters wear em!
This guy must be twin brother of Zach Hyman
The Leafs could learn a thing or two from this.
