You'll probably learn that making things yourself, like mashed potatoes, will be cheaper and stretch for more meals if you make them yourself instead of buying kits. Also, eating healthy doesn't have to break the bank. It breaks the bank when people try to do complicated recipes with unique ingredients instead of using the true healthy options of things that came off a plant or out of the ground.

Yes, the counter was covered with a huge amount of processed foods. Kids learn to eat as adults what their fed as children. I purchase very basic groceries, with very little processed foods. For the cost of instant mashed you could buy a large bag of spuds at Costco. Make your own French fries, have baked potato night, scalloped potatoes, oven roast and potatoes, mashed potatoes, garlic mashed potatoes- My mom made potatoes to stretch the $$$’s. Also give up the chips and give kids fruit slices or carrot sticks instead. Processed foods have so many additives, processed cheese slices are mostly oil. And most items, cereals, pop tarts and such are loaded with sugar. You can also purchase large bags of frozen veggies and fruit at Costco- My grandkids love eating frozen blueberries as a dessert- Sugary desserts should be for a once a week treat or special occasions. Let’s teach our children to eat nutritionally-

You guys are making such a huge difference. Your willingness to be vulnerable has relieved some of the shame in our massive debt. That shame keeps the cycle going for sure. HUbby and I have printed the debt-free sheets, prepared a budget, and are beginning to climb our way out of debt, all since watching you guys bare your financial souls with us. We have been talking about it for a long time, but your videos gave us such motivation to get serious about it. I've already begun coloring lines (on our sheets) and envelopes as we unbury ourselves. I'm thinking you guys could seriously get a "get started" kit together! With Cullen's artistic ability and Katie's level of detail orientation...you're sure to keep this going! I seriously watch your videos to keep my self motivated! IT WORKS! Your vulnerability is the real deal. THANK YOU!!!!

Lately our Walmart has been whooping Aldi in prices. What I do is go to Aldi first and compare prices on the Walmart grocery app. Then I head over to Walmart to nab whatever was cheaper there. I always create my shopping list on the Walmart grocery app to make the comparison shopping easier.

My husband has always found grocery shopping to be very intimidating. An Aldi just opened up about a mile and a half from our house and he told me that he can absolutely grocery shop in there and not feel overwhelmed. Now if I could just get him to cook.
Even when I go nuts and splurge in Aldi my bill has never been more than $100. Love the savings!

I guess 150 at aldi. Try the aldi brand cheerios, amazing and so are the pizza in the box their brand in the freezer is triple the weight of the one you got. And they taste like delivery. And brownie mix specialty selected one chocolate chunk in it is amazing. They are chewy gooey brownies, some
Like drier cakeier ones which are the ones you got

Long time subscriber here to say thank you. Your struggle, your life? It’s changed ours. My boyfriend and I (still not married, but some day!) should have been in crisis much sooner than we came to it. We just did the best we could to ignore it. We are in a combined $80,000 in debt, just over half of which is student loans. Up until you started posting your debt videos, we just stuck our heads in the sand and let things go to collections. Today, we downloaded EveryDollar and are going to start FPU next week. We make plenty to cover our everyday expenses, but we literally blew it on dumb stuff. Thank you for your honesty. Thank you for your courage to do this series.

Well done Cullen and Katie. I’ve never shopped at Aldi, maybe I’ll give them a try. I signed up for WalMart grocery delivery. It is a splurge. I have some health/mobility issues that make trudging thru Walmart shopping for 5 adults + 1 little, getting it all home and put away pretty tough for me some days. So I find the benefit to me worth the cost of delivery. I do think I’m spending less because I’m not browsing thru Walmart, picking up this.... grabbing that..... and throwing the other.... in my cart. You guys seem so energized by all the successes you’re having along the way as you set up your budget and envelopes, sell stuff, and close the gap on getting current. It’s really great to see. I won’t speak for others but will just say I’m here to support you, not to wonder about how you spend your $, or to judge your grocery choices. I do think most subscribers feel the same way. Keep doing what you’re doing, and remember to do what you feel is best for you 2 and your 2 littles. 👍

Aldi has been a life saver for us. We learned about it back when the one in Decatur, AL was the only one in this area, and we'd go once a month to restock our staples. Then we took a massive pay cut the next year, and it has been our only grocery store since. It's the only place I've been able to make feeding four people with food sensitivities on a budget of about $80 a week possible without just living on beans and cornbread.

I love Aldi! We're a family of 5 (my kids are 1, 3 and 5) and we shop once a week. We used to go every 2 weeks, but I found it to be cheaper going once a week (we spend around $100-$125 once a week so monthly is about $400-$500). . We go through fruit and veggies so fast so this works great for us. Plus, we meal plan one week at a time which saves us a ton of money. I recommend getting their paper towels (the ones compared to Sparkle are cheaper and just as great). I also like their disinfecting wipes. The kettle cooked jalapeno flavored chips and white cheddar popcorn are ADDICTING!!!! The pancake/sausage on a stick are also really good. They also have really good Chinese food...we love the orange chicken, pot stickers and chickn egg rolls. I have loved following along on your journey!!

73% lean isn’t the leaner ground beef. It’s the fattiest. The highest fat content my Kroger sells is 80/20 (80% meat 20% fat) and you’re at 73% meat and 27% fat. It will make a good burger though.

You guys need to save for a vacuum sealer! We buy bulk meat at Costco and divide it up ourselves. The long pork loin are around $20 (CAD) and we get two “roasts” and 16 pork cutlets out of them!
We get a big beef roast and slice it into “steaks” and we also buy ground beef in bulk and divide it into portions and vacuum seal everything! We also buy a box of frozen chicken breast.
We stock up every 3-4 months. It’s so much cheaper this way and then we always have lots of options when we are planning meals.

I'm SO proud of y'all!! That's a great grocery haul! I'm proud of you for switching to liquid dishwasher detergent. Y'all are doing great! I use instant taters too for dinners. It's so much easier. They make them in boxes too. That might be cheaper in the long run. Don't let anyone make you feel guilty for doing what works for YOUR family. I love you guys and I love seeing how happy y'all are. It's so refreshing. Keep on trucking and we'll keep praying and the good Lord will keep working in our lives. We can't ask for more than that. God bless y'all. ❤

Katie- I make a yummy soup with the Rice ramen. Cook some chopped onions in a pan, then roughly chop some baby bok choy and stir fry. Also put some skinless chicken in the oven to cook. Then fill a pan with water, add some chicken boullion or veggie, the stir fried veggies, some soy sauce, some essence oil and salt and pepper to taste. Then add 3 of the Ramon cubes. Let cook for about 15 minutes. Place in a bowl And add sliced chicken on top-
I keep in the fridge and eat for several days. Hits the spot!

For coffee, you can buy reusable Keurig cups and fill them up with your own grounds. Super affordable but you can still make little individual coffees!

I did the math with bulk ingredients from costco/aldi. When you cut a pan of those brownies into 8 pieces, each brownie is only 16.5 cents! YUM.

For laundry detergent you’ll want to price per wash load rather than per ounce. Some brands are 2 or 3 times more concentrated so they only use 1 oz. per load, others use several ounces so you’re paying for extra water and giant containers.

I work at a grocery store, the biggest & most expensive in town. I get a 10% discount but still shop at Aldi for most of my groceries. It’s still less even with the discount. Great haul! The hash brown patties are really good, the take and bake pizza for $5 is delicious and you can freeze them for later use.

My best tip is I do one weekly grocery trip. I also make my meal plan list while I’m hungry so that we have good food, but then eat lunch before I go so I won’t be tempted to buy anything extra 😂 I stick to my list, and only go once a week which saves a ton of money on produce and meat going bad before we can eat it. I only buy stuff for breakfast, lunch, and the ingredients for the meals I’ve planned out. It works well! I don’t get how people don’t meal plan 😂

To cut cost on cleaning supplies for my sinks, tubs, showers and toilets I use Tide washing powder for 19 dollars a box. It lasts me 6-9 months and it actually cleans better than anything else I have used. It is nice not having to buy so much cleaning products a month.

I am loving this series from you guys. I wish you didn’t have to go through this but I
So glad you are helping others along the way. My husband and I are also on a debt free journey. His ex stepdad say passed away last year and my husband was left an inheritance. It’s given us a fresh start and a new look at financial responsibility. Still paying off some debt but we are learning to be more financially responsible. I’m inspired by your story and thank you for sharing. Also I live in New Mexico and so wish I had an Aldi! I can not buy groceries for that price here lol much love to you guys.

Watching this video reminds me of how my mom used to go shopping. She'd have a list and her calculater and budget what she'd get. That's the one thing I've taken with me as I've grown up. It's actually helped. Although it's kind of hard when your with someone who grew up very different then you. However I have taught him how to budget when we had hard times. I'm liking your budget stuff. I'm going to be using some of your tips. I love how your being so honest with your viewers, I'm sure it's not easy.

Little tip, if you want it to be leaner, just cook it up and when it’s just brown strain off the excess grease in the pan and there you have it. Lean ground meat.
