    I know this video is 7 years old and you’ll probably never see this comment but OMG this video saved my life. I accidentally clicked the “save on startup” button. And I just spent hours reading through forums and nothing worked until I tried this. Why is NO ONE ELSE saying to do this trick. Everyone talks about clearing cmos, flashing bios etc but not just using safe mode and uninstalling after burner. Jay you are the best thank you

    You alluded to the fact that this is not the case for voltage overclocks, but you didn't actually talk about what to consider in those cases. Maybe a follow up video explaining the dangers associated with voltage overclocks, possible solutions to those problems and a general procedure to follow when trying to oc voltage would be helpful? Especially since it would help bridge the gap a little between complete novices and more experienced audiences, as quite a bit of your content recently has been aimed towards the former. I for one would love some tips for fixing voltage oc's as I have already ruined a few gpu's from lack of understanding of procedures. Great video though, helps people feel more free to get their money's worth!

    • @sabotagekiwi
      @sabotagekiwi 7 лет назад +10

      Also I would like to point out that in windows 8.1 it's basically impossible to get into safe mode by mashing f8 due to load optimizations. The window where they register key presses is still there, but it's extremely small so you'd need either some really fast fingers or some luck. Alternatively you can boot to either a windows disk or usb drive with windows installer on it which will allow you to get to the same options page, if I remember correctly.

    • @Malus1531
      @Malus1531 7 лет назад +1

      +sabotagekiwi Yeah I ran into the issue of not being able to enter BIOS on my W10 laptop the other day. I kept restarting and it would never register my key presses. When I actually shut down though instead of restarting it worked. I just installed Windows 10 on my desktop two days ago, haven't tested it actually, but the POST screen is visible for a couple seconds just like it was with Windows 7. I think there's a setting for fast boot within the Windows control panel, but fast boot is disabled by default in my BIOS (which I assume takes precedence).

      @ArtisChronicles 7 лет назад +2

      +OutcasT well, you could just try to get safe mode started as he suggested. You could then just fix the issue with the gpu you have installed already. Otherwise you're either looking for your old gpu that you just kept around for diagnostic purposes or looking for a really cheap gpu elsewhere.

    Always keep a password on your user account, so then when you reach the log in screen (which won't open certain apps like afterburner), hold down the left shift key and then hit Windows restart button at the bottom right corner which will take you to startup options. This works inside Windows and for Windows 8, 8.1 and 10.

      I owned an FX 4100 and overclocked it to 4.4 GHz on its stock cooler (the one with copper heat pipes). That was a pretty good CPU, it was great with my HD 6670 GDDR5 edition. But I had to sell it, needed money back then. Though I paired the FX with a GT 630. I am still using the 6670 with a Sempron 145 unlocked to Athlon x2 4450e and overclocked to 3.2 GHz (still stock cooler, but this one is that Aluminum one). It still servers me well, since I am a filthy casual gamer (I rarely play any games).
      Somebody had a Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading (the 3 GHz variant) paired with the GT 210, they worked pretty well together for a low-end PC.

    • @matthewtremain683
      @matthewtremain683 7 лет назад

      I have had to down clock my GPU, due to my motherboard not coping with both my fx 8350 and 980ti. My cpu is stuck to a 4.3ghz oc at 4 cores. While my 980ti is stuck at 80% max power draw. It isn't the psu, for I had issues with a 1kw psu in it. Well, connected to it. The 1kw psu was from a late 2005 apple power mac G5, that I had modded.

    • @MrBiky
      @MrBiky 7 лет назад

      Matthew Tremain
      I like that case, but I really wouldn't trust that 11 years PSU. Even PSUs today have a warranty of 10 years at most, and that's with 80 plus gold and platinum ratings. I am 90% sure that PSU isn't giving more than 500W by now. Considering an 8350 with OC can reach about 200W consumption and the 980Ti has a power draw of 250W + the rest of your components, I say you should at least try it with a good PSU. Of you have a friend that owns a more recent 1, you should try it (also, I guess you know, but 980Ti requires at least a 600W PSU, so anything beyond that should do).
      I had an old 450W PSU that had like 13-14 years and was still giving around 230-ish W and could power an FX 4100 and a Radeon 6670 GDDR5, but once I overclocked the CPU, system was unstable. Changed the PSU and the OC was never unstable again.

    If you have an SSD and mess up your overclock on Precision XOC (with apply clocks on startup enabled), all you have to do is use the small frame of time before the clocks kick in to use task manager and kill the precision XOC process. I'm pretty sure it's a similar sort of thing on MSI Afterburner, even without open application on startup disabled and the apply clocks on startup enabled, the background process will always run on startup. I messed up a profile ages ago and that's how I fixed it, I instinctively killed the process before it fully kicked in and gave me a black screen.

    • @R8FKL
      @R8FKL 7 лет назад

      Like literally I did this mistake in precision x oc with boot on startup enabled and also apply clocks on startup and all I had to do was force quit it before it started and I could use my PC forever. Ofc I still had to remove the profiles from XOC and then open it again

      You can do it! GPU OC's are so simple with MSI afterburner. Just slide the core clock right until you start to get weirdness. If you go too far then its ok, just tone it back a little and then you will be fine. I built my first system about a year ago and I watched a lot of Jay's videos. I have an OC on my GPU and my CPU and I have never had any issues with either.
