This will probably sound even more killer thru a 4x4 cab than the first version. Glad I sort of waited on Blackstar amps, debating on which model would suit my needs (liked the 20 for features, liked the 5 for more sensible home studio levels). Also, with the added features/value-for-dollar of this little 5 watter, looks like Marshall's newest Class 5 has just had its lunch handed to it.
this is everything iv ben looking for in a small tube amp :D sounds like it can really do metal tones right out of the box, most sound sweet overdriven with a tube screamer, hope its not to expensive, what do you guys think, can this deliver a metallica tone paired up with some EMG's
I picked up one of these(mk1) and a 1x12 cab in white today on kijiji for $350cad. This is the perfect setup for home use. Sounds amazing, and has a lot of great features. I'd love to have gotten the mk2, but for the price I paid for this I'm happy.
I didn't try the HT5 Metal, but it has quite a lot of gain. If you put a boost in front of it (overdrive pedal like a Tube screamer or OCD, with gain at 0 or very low with volume cranked up. I use a cheap but good Joyo Ultimate Drive), you can definitely get some pretty good metal tones. But that depends on what you're looking for. Works very well for me. I would suggest to try both in stores.
I went in to get a new Gibson LP several years ago and plugged it into a HT-5 mini-stack (the original) before Blackstar was really even known. I wasn't shopping for an amp but that little stack left the store with me and it replaced my Marshall as my #1. It's versatile with plenty of sweet spots. I've been gigging with it for years. For big clubs, I just mic it.
@theshyguitarist Better if you like / need the reverb. And the 12 " speakers are DEFINITELY an upgrade. It's hard to say the amp itself is better - it's just different features from the original. And I meant the pre-amp has 1 tube. I mean if someone was using just the head, and didn't care about reverb, and was using the head as a one channel amp (to get clean & dirt sounds from the OD channel), then I'd say the old versions were better. Its now a bit harder to dial in a precise light OD
You can run from the emulated out to board or mic the speaker and play a stadium. You dont need hi wattage amps anymore. Anything over 20-30 watts is overkill.
Just because a new one came out doesn't make the "old" one sound any worse. Plus you've been playing it for a bit, right? Still love my HT5. Stop being such babies. 'nuff said.
@DavidVeeGuitars yea this amp might be more versitile than the class 5, but the design philosophies are totally different. The blackstar was designed to have a lot of features, but the class 5 was designed for tube purists who want a class A tube amp with low wattage... im not sayin' its better, just designed for a different group of consumers. to each his own....
@kemele uhhh what about a peavey 5150, engls, mesas, all sound great on there own and better boosted with an overdrive pedal, but metal distortion boxes sound terrible
@Splittail01 You said a mouth full. I bought one not 2 months ago and already am regretting it.

@kemele Than let me tell you a great professional distortion pedal that you can buy directly from their web page. It's called Amptweaker Tight Metal and includes a noise gate in the pedal ;) Plus, it is designed to act also as a preamp and it is designed by the guy who designed the famous Peavey 5150 ;)
@theshyguitarist Well, the Reverb on the new version is nice, but it has only 1 tube and was and still is easy to boost with a pedal or clean boost. Now like from 6-10 on the gain dial is basically the same level of saturated distortion, and 0-2 is hypersensitive. So I think in this respect the old ones might have been better.
Blackstar is the amplification of the future. It encompasses everything Line 6 has put out, and in better quality, and any and every foot pedal that I'm guessing a general consensus that the public uses....BUY A BLACKSTAR
Nice amps. I'm not convinced about the ISF though... the tone of the Brit sound is OK, but the gain structure sounds much too tight to emulate those classic sounds. The amp seems to suit the modern American sound better.
Great amp much better than my marshall... Alround sounds that are sharp n banging . This amp is ok for gigging in pubs n clubs not open air rock concerts.... Overall, the best small head ive ever perchased with big balls n a sharp heart... go for it.
Is this head gig-able? Because I've seen some reviews of people saying it is and some people saying it depends on how big the venue is? And I'm thinking if I put the head through a 4x12 cabinet will it be louder than putting it through a 2x12?
ive just tested one out in a store a couple of hours ago..and with its stock 1x12 i would say you could easily gig it and a vanue no bigger then for 20/30 people..with a 2x12 or 4x12 it would def be louder, but i didnt test that..
Brandonmusic1000 I've been eyeing one down at guitar center, and plugged it through a 1x12 v30 speaker, which was pretty ballsy, but I also used an Orange 4x12 and I guarantee you could gig it. For a big venue, it would need to be mic'd, but for any reasonably sized place, a 4x12 will have some headroom in it
I have one word of advice: ** don't forget the earplugs ** This little baby can do over 100 dB and can easily get tinnitus With an attenuator you can bring it down to 85 dB range The cool thing about it is that you can plug in earphones if you wish, and you can hear all of your pedals (in front of the amp and those in the effects loop). Great little amp
This kinda pisses me off. I only bought my HT-5 combo maybe a little over half a year ago.. And then this comes out, with a 12" speaker, reverb, a tone on the clean, AND more gain? What the fuck, Blackstar?!
Great for the ones who only want to play dirt. Cant crank the cleans up without dirt. Give me a higher watt amp with more headroom for loud cleans and i can add a pedal that will get anything this will put out. You cant get clean from a dirty amp. But you can get dirt from a clean amp.
I think that Gus G is inlove with this audio blkstar engineer... They have the same right hand flame tattoo... Or everyone who sign with blackstar are pushed to make the same tattoo.. on the right hand.. Thought i think gus must have kissed alot of asses for these flames...
with the tone control on the clean does the equalisation knobs still do anything to the clean channel?
Mine doesn't have that much gain, not even half of it. Could it be the preamp tube beong on its way?
Mine didn't either. Got rid of it.
Hot pickups
Yea ! What does it cost and when will it be available in the U.S.A. ..... ? ----- Jerry

yeah ok..
So this has the same amount of gain as the htx pedal?
Did this guy was in the lick library?

think so
Whats the deal with the Scrunchy on the nut?

had the mk1 ..I wanted the MK2.. I really like the kt88 studio 10. gain stage is crazy
I'm in doubt between HT5 and HT5 metal. Of to have the same versatility with HT5 metal?
I didn't try the HT5 Metal, but it has quite a lot of gain. If you put a boost in front of it (overdrive pedal like a Tube screamer or OCD, with gain at 0 or very low with volume cranked up. I was talking about the HT-5R, of course :p
By the way, i use the tone and volume controls on my guitar quite a bit to change the tone on the fly. An LP is incredibly versatile.
Yep. I used to run 2 Marshall 50 watt lead heads in stereo. Don't need more than 20-30 watts. Even this 5 watt amp could play anywhere.
@theshyguitarist Better if you like / need the reverb. And the 12 " speakers are DEFINITELY an upgrade. It's hard to say the amp itself is better - it's just different features from the original. is there a blackstar with about 30,40 watt? 5 is too less
@musicmanplayer25 yeah but you got screwed on a 10" vs 12" speaker....if you bought the combo that is
is the line out after or before the poweramp? anyone knows?
@regularguy00001 it mutes the strings that arent being played and makes soloing sound cleaner.
is HT5 or HT5R the new one?
would this be able to handle small pub size gigs ?
You can run from the emulated out to board or mic the speaker and play a stadium. You dont need hi wattage amps anymore. Anything over 20-30 watts is overkill.
was the ht pedal engaged?
Just because a new one came out doesn't make the "old" one sound any worse. Plus you've been playing it for a bit, right? Still love my HT5. Stop being such babies. 'nuff said.
Guitar jack cable is blue but amp input cable is grey. Also effect pedal cables are red. Wtf?
@theshyguitarist Why what happened?
So, the blue cable from the guitar turns into a grey one in the amp input... hmmmmm....
@GuernB2 Or you could stack pedals. I get a good one by stacking a Boss Bassman with a Boss DS-1
@DavidVeeGuitars yea this amp might be more versitile than the class 5, but the design philosophies are totally different. But no open chords then?
This is a great amp. The emulated output is a godsend for recording.
David Dyer hi is there any tone or sound loss when you record into your interface thanks
Loud enough for a small gig in a bar???? Or with an energetic drummer??
Blackstar is the amplification of the future. It encompasses everything Line 6 has put out, and in better quality, and any and every foot pedal that I'm guessing a general consensus that the public uses....BUY A BLACKSTAR
Tell yourself whatever u have to
It seems like an awesome amp, just like the HT-1 combo :)
with the entrance of HT 5 metal, the ones who bought the 2nd version also got screwed
Awesome!
WANT ONE!!!
@Crunchifyable
Judging from your comment however, you make it sound like the new version is better.
Thanks
@kemele dont get the metal zone or metal core, it's terrible blackstar distortion pedals are great
Nice amps. I'm not convinced about the ISF though... the tone of the Brit sound is OK, but the gain structure sounds much too tight to emulate those classic sounds. The amp seems to suit the modern American sound better.
Damn....I Just Bought the first version in Febuary..........
Great amp much better than my marshall...
Alround sounds that are sharp n banging .

Overall, the best small head ive ever perchased with big balls n a sharp heart... go for it.
@MrRandomshite
New version as reverb.

most awesome
I didnt know Captain Jack Sparrow uses Blackstar...
bit of a kicker for those of us who bought the HT5 though.
I have one word of advice: ** don't forget the earplugs **

Great little amp
I dont think that the sound of the guitar is comming from his mouth
Yes but they are not all the same. Although they sound quite similar, they are different.
WHAT !?!? GLAD ITS ALMOST OVER ?????? p guitar get someone who wants the gig damm !!
I wouldn't say that. I like to use my pedals for my verb.
@Voe0123 Yes
there is a 1, 5, 20, 40, 50, 60, 100, and 200 watt version
This kinda pisses me off. I only bought my HT-5 combo maybe a little over half a year ago.. And then this comes out, with a 12" speaker, reverb, a tone on the clean, AND more gain? What the fuck, Blackstar?!
Sitdown OldMan!!

@atpazari33
Most likely before
so much want!
Shit sorry, thought it was only the verb. My bad.
Wow....anyone who bought the first version got screwed.

@metalwillhatecrew Your ears, dude. I like it fine.
HT-5R
Признайтесь, что он не ламповый
@Splittail01 lol pwned
HAhAHAHAhaahhAHhahahAHAha
There shit amps with unbearable ear fatigue and tone. Buy a diezel or jet city ltd
