This is a great one. Thanks Jordan and Vince. I never knew the name for Vaudeville, so now I know what to say when a friend looks at my strangely when the Vaudeville sounding bridge comes up in the song.
They seem to enjoy it, plus they get paid for it, win-win if you ask me :D And also win for us, I'm sure many fans appreciate these, especially because they're all sharing positive thougts

there was so much to say about Derek and his approach to rock n' roll keys (which Jordan does a lot of) but ... I guess he just didn't want to mention that.
Yes---see Dream Theater's Scenes from a Memory and Live in Budokan-Jordan plays those passages in a couple songs :) Vaudeville basically dates around the 1920's (and before)
Obvious lie at 1:16. We all know there's one member of the band who used to be great, but has been now been way out of his depth for a long time. The member Petrucci doesn't listen to in his in-ear monitor.
Can any of you dream theater fanatics tell me if you've discovered which conan obrien clip is used in space dye vest? I swear it's him and Andy talking about a swimming pool?
You are correct: he song is interspersed with samples from A Room with a View, The Fifth Estate, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, The Trouble With Evan and a news commentary by Jim Hill during the O. J. Simpson freeway chase.
I wish somebody could do a Cameo with Kevin Moore and have him talk stuff like this. But that's impossible since Moore himself would evade anything DT related and I bet that he's busy during this pandemic since he's a medical practitioner now.
He was asked to join them for a live performance of space dye vest for 15 years. For the fans. Portnoy was pretty upset since he helped makethe first 2 OSI records but Moore wouldnt come play one song with DT.
@@rallumonslefeu3451 he lost interest in their brand of music and the rockstar-on-tour lifestyle. @@mr.sidecomments9278 Thank you so much for this clarification. He may not be as much a virtuoso as Rudess (but who is anyway :) :) He was my favorite DT keyboardist though.
Vince Palamara you’re not wrong. He’s my favorite. Very down to earth. He seems like a regular guy that never forgot what it’s like to be a fan like us. It shows in his music and personality.
Interesting the response and use of good or really good musician. For me I disagree with those descriptions but while hopefully not being understood as claiming rudess is some kind of reductionist. I know he is simply answering a question. The thing for me though is part of what makes a player a good player for me is the uniqueness they have. For example, for me rudess isn't just a good player because he can do what he does. He is so because of the invention he brings to his playing. He has a soaring classical nimbleness of both hands and mind that unify into a joyful and spritely performance. Sherinian on the other hand has a deeply layered and ominous sound that fills any space with great authority and ambience while Moore has keen compositional motif writing that becomes a memorable aspect of the song. The good player then that I'm describing is cognisant of the whole person and contribution and not just the capacity for lead or accompaniment playing. Just saying

Space Dye Vest is awesome. Dramatic, morose, and simple. It was so different from the typical Dream Theater fast-paced intricate metal. I love it.
