F-22 is inarguably the best fighter in the world. Then we have the F-35, which half of the world is lining up to buy because we won't sell the former. We're the first nation to build and implement 5th generation jets.
I look at the facts. Yes, I'm a US citizen. I do not support our colonial foreign policy or the cronys in our government. But you can't deny facts.
The F-16 has come of age, and saw combat in which it performed perfectly.

F-16 is a great timeless design. It will be with us for many years.
Nobody seems to have gotten the message: It is not about not being able to gun it down. It is about still being the most cost efficient and bang for buck fighter jet for decades to come. It would be ultimately killed by being replaced and that is not even on the horizon.

2) the F 35 has come down in costs to 26 000 in early 2022 (now). so barely more expensive, but 400x more stealthy and 10x better radar, communication and weapons and range.

@Northax Mig-21 is an extremely old and outdated aircraft. It was designed in mid 1950s and stopped production in 1985. So it is not an achievement for F-16 to take down an old soviet MIG. You must compare F-16 with modern Russian SU aircrafts.
And it's definitely one of the most beautiful planes ever designed.

My favorite fighter. I saw the Thunderbirds at Mountain Home AFB when I was 6 years old. I loved the loud noise and the speed as a little boy. But it wasn't until later that I understood just how powerful that engine was until I was in the Army and saw one on the way to Fort Knox do an unrestricted climb from take off... I swear it was a rocket with wings. Straight up with zero obvious effort. What a sight.

I think the Gripen is a modern iteration of the initial F-16 concept. Small, simple (sort of), agile, not too costly, lethal.
gripen has nothing to do with F-16 tho, it stems from saab 35 and 37, these concepts pre-dates F-16

So the concept for gripen pre-dates the concept of F-16 by almost 20 years... how is gripen a modern iteration of the F-16 concept?

Absolute finest jet fighter. So versatile, agile, and cheap to operate and maintain compared to its twin-engine counterparts. It also just looks so damn cool. Would have been crazy if the frame could have carried the recoil of those gatling guns! Those A-10s are pretty cool too! Mass respect for the F-14, 15, 18 and the 5th gen F-25 and 22, but the Fighting Falcon is my favourite.

It amazes me when I see the planes our country makes. It's hard to believe everything made was once rock's, plant's, earth, minerals etc. It blows my mind watching these fighter jets & seeing the technology in them.

The falcon is an awesome plane. I used to get stuck pulling tower guard at the ECP in Kandahar, that tower was a short distance past the end of the runway. F16's would take off and buzz us so low we could feel the heat from the afterburner ON TOP of the 120ish temps we normally felt during the day. It was cool though, and the pilots knew we loved it. After scorching us with the afterburner they'd do a vertical afterburner climb and be out of sight in a few seconds. Still remember that all these years later.

Moreover another F-16 was recently crashed in Pakistan.

The Pakistani aircraft was a F-16 and enemy radio transmissions which were monitored showed that IT didn’t return to its base.
The aircraft was also not responding to radio transmission calls, indicating that it had been shot down by Varthaman. The IAF became aware of the different call signs used for the Pakistani aircraft. These signs are codewords used to identify a particular aircraft. This crucial evidence is among many which were shown by IAF sources. The IAF has electronic signatures presented by its Airborne Warning and Control Systems aircraft which show that F-16s were used by Pakistan on February 27.
Importantly, the F-16 which was shot down, had disappeared about 8 to 10 seconds after Varthaman had fired at it.
Pakistan lied to US govt as it dint use F-16 during dog fight. But IAF showed evidence of AIM-120 AMRAAM missile that can be carried only by F-16.

Everything is a gamble but if you are prepared you can withstand the outcome.
It’s upto a point where the pilots skills are useful because modern day dogfighting mostly happens at medium and BVR meaning it’s more on the aircraft targeting systems and sensors and the armament.

The last F16 kill happened in a state of the art aerial battle arena between the Pakistani and Indian forces last year following an abortive Indian strike inside Pakistan. Both Kills were marked by Amraams 120s fired from two F16s against an su30mki and a mig 21.
There were Indian claims soon that the down going Mig 21 struck down the F16 that had fired its missile at it. The claim was raked when independent military and magazine observers from around the world examined the Indian Mig 21 wreckage at open display in Islamabad. All four missiles the mig came with were found unfired, still on their attachments with their warheads. The last score of that day was an Indian Mi17 military transport helicopter that had just lifted for search and rescue flight support for the su30mki crew, thr helicopter was taken out by Israeli make missile by the Indian Air defense system thinking it was a Pakistani UAV.
The fact this information was covered up so well by the western media.... 🔥

Never believe whatever indian media or govt says. Not a single proof given, no footage, no image, not even a satellite photo of debris. Even though all military satellites were looking down at that moment. It was a lie to calm down indians after losing 2 fighter jets, 1 helicopter, 7 military personal, 3 military depots in just 5 minutes.

Usually when govts made claims in such matters their nation accepts it in the name of nationalism, however the govts can discredit the counter claims by establising facts. To counter indian claim, pakistan invited the most credible defense source to count its F-16s and it found none missing. Secondly, we all know that india does possess many military satellites, none showed debris image despite knowing exact coordinates through radar signature. We established that F-16 wasn't downed by credible source, india couldn't for its Su-30. Had indian mig-21 would have fallen at indian side of border then india would never have accepted even the loss of mig21 as well. Anyways.. There is no winner in wars or battles. Hope South Asia sets its path for peace.

@steve jones There's no proof of India shooting down Pakistan's F16. Though Pakistan has the full proof of the fact that its F16 wasn't shot down. When the Mig 21 crashed down, all four of its air to air missiles were scattered around the crashed plane, with less damage than expected. none of the missiles had any signs of being launched and those exact missiles are at the PAF Museum in Karachi, Pakistan.
The statement was true till a year ago, except when a brave indian pilot used an era old technology MIG 21 Bison to successfully managed to shot it down on the enemy grounds itself.

Actually the F16XL looked better. Problem was the production line had already produced 2,000 F-16's and most of the bugs were worked out. Nato and other countries were dependent on parts. The USA is not the only country to produce these. It's an excellent aircraft.

GDFW Engineering used to have a placard hanging in ALL Engineering departments that specifically listed the ONLY "Fasteners" that could be used of "Engineering Changes" ("ECNs") ... this kept things "basic" and therefore "affordable"; no "specialty fasteners" allowed !!! The last USAF delivery (CC-203?) was in 1999 !!! Time to buy some "Block 70's" DoD !!! What a wonderful 4 decade long ride it's been
