It started life as this tiny agile scalpel and the most recent variants just bring an obscene amount of bravado to the personality. Just raw power and awesome looks. I remember Iron Eagle the movie, nuff said. :)
I grew up watching The Original Top Gun... and out of all the fighters the F16 was always my favorite... But it rarely makes the spotlight... I LOVE The sleek design... and the opening shot(of this video)... What a Beauty...
umm, dude the Navy fighter aircraft in that movie was not an f-16. Think about the other iconic fighter that was featured in this video. it was not the F-16, but the F-14
First model I ever built was a Revell 1:72 scale F-16A and its been my absolute fav ever since. Back then the only time I ever glimpsed F-16's were in books borrowed from the library and watching Iron Eagle on VHS.
Still my favorite fighter of all time. I really love how much these are pushed to their limits and keep taking the abuse. They are loaded down to the brim with fuel and munitions to the point where they NEED afterburner just to take off. And let's not forget the famed 9g turn ability. A squadron of F16s with B1 bombers is my dream team. And as much as the name 'Viper' sounds cool, it will always be the Fighting Falcon to me. Great video!
The ending clip needs some serious remastering. Having my volume turned up in my headphones to hear the video ended in my ears bleeding due to the insanely higher volume of the final clip.
Also one of the best air display jets at any show. Once watched a Dutch example, at Mildenhall air show, lift off and go ballistic until out of sight in a clear blue sky. Then he reappeared in a flat spin which he sustained down to less than a thousand feet before recovering and immediately entering a tight 360 turn within the airfield perimeter. I thought he was a goner for sure but it was breathtaking to watch. 😮
People say that, but then there are others who claim they never heard it called that during their service. Its my belief that "Viper" was a name a small number of USAF personnel used (the guys who came up with the name and the people they shared it with) and most people called the Falcon. But as the internet became prominent, the story of the Viper nickname started spreading and now there's this perception that everyone calls it that.
Painted the F-16 anger at Buckley Air National Guard base about 30 years ago. Close up to these planes and the base commander took off in his fancy F-16 did it on its tail and did a five afterburner blast off! So fucking cool
If you don't mind, I'll copy my comment on this one too. The F-16V Viper is still an excellent all-around fighter and despite all the propaganda about the F-35 which is supposedly replacing the Viper my studies about the F-35 leaves me worried about the direction the USAF is taking. I hear a lot of the same arguments that were used back in the '50s and '60s, "we don't need a high-speed dogfighter anymore." Just add "Stealth is now the Holy Grail" and that's not what it's going to take for air superiority. The damn thing can hardly go supersonic because the engine overheats and within a few seconds have to cut the AB. It's constantly being grounded and put back in the air on another waiver. Not exactly a confidence builder, I would rather have a proven F-16V generation 4.5 fighter than a 5th generation fighter that has a 20-year history of unreliability. I have many other issues with the F-35 and like the Mustang was the best prop fighter there is, in my opinion the Viper is still King.
@@osamabagdadi5789 The V (Block 70-72) variant is not being built for the USAF, Guard or Reserve. It is an export only aircraft. Besides the maintenance issue is the fact that General Dynamics wants to sell the more expensive F-35 rather than the Viper.
@@tbolt2948 oh true, I mean isn't the airforce buying more F15EX? I think the idea might be that F35 will be used in mission that require stealth such as beginning of an airwar before enemy radars and Sams are neutralized and F15EX can do all the dogfighting. Either way, Su30Sm and Su35 are far more maneuverable and could probably beat the F15Ex. F35 stealth and long range capabilities might be the only advantage for USAF in that case.
I've been told by several maintainers they dont even want the f35. The AF has a budget. The f35 is just way to expensive to keep for all the more use it has. I'd be curious to know what would happen if they put ram on a Falcon. It's already a very small fighter. If they can get stealth qualities on an big f15, they surely can stealth an f16. Im told The best thing about the f16 falcon is it's very cheap to build & maintain. Definetely a hot rod of fighters. It can do it all, and does it very well. I've heard f16 pilots say " you dont get IN an f16, you strap it on". 😊 But sadly, common sense & $$price$ seldom has anything to do with military procurement decisions.
The F-16s first flight was actually an accident...during the test in question the pilot was only supposed to conduct taxi trials but the pilot did something he was not supposed to and as a result the aircraft got airborne.
Whatever you think about who builds them now, General Dynamics designed, developed and built the plane for 15+ years. That, or part of that same original GD business unit, among the source companies that blended into what is Lockheed Martin now. Not sure your point.
How old is this documentry?....it (the F-16) has long since been a Lockeed Martin product as its code name was changed from "fighting Falcon" to "viper" years ago.
Nope, Viper is what the pilots have always called it, it's code name however continues to be Fighting Falcon despite Lockheed Martin taking over manufacturing it when General Dynamics sold them their aircraft manufacturing division. Just like the name of the A10 always having been Thunderbolt II despite the pilots calling it Warthog and most of the public thinking that was it's name because of that.
the latest fox 3 splash performed by the Pakistani airforce F-16 was against an Indian SU-30 MKI on 27 February 2019 during a short air skirmish over the Himalayan mountains.

Do some extra research, There is an F-16 training facility built in Romania, so that NATO countries can train their airforce pilots somewhere and have that training standardized across NATO. This is current in 2023, so that tells me that the F-16 is not going to be phased out anytime soon in Europe.

I like the f22 raptor

Two different eras
P-51 Mustang and F-16 Fighting Falcon
Two air dog fight beasts

What's interesting is pilots don't call it the Fighting falcon they call it a viper

Viper came from the USAF community who watched the original Battlestar Galactica series where the space-fighters are named "Vipers".

Maintenance for f35 is far more intense so I think they will coexist together with f16 doing the grunt work

The F-16 does no have the stealth required today in some essential operations, nor the STOVL capability of the F-35 B.
