Is glycerol used as well as glucose or is it replacing glucose? If it is replacing it how can it produce more energy than carbohydrates when it only contains three carbon atoms?
In any cell or organism, different molecules (substrates) will be used to release energy via respiration, via multiple pathways. And that can happen all at the same time. It just depends on what the cell is doing and what molecules are available. Glycerol is part of lipids. So when a cell is using lipids as a substrate for respiration, it will be using both the glycerol and the fatty acid parts of the lipid molecules. The energy available does not just depend on the number of carbon atoms. It depends on how reduced the carbon atoms are (ie the ratio of hydrogen to carbon). Lipids have a very high ratio of hydrogen to carbon. So lipids (not just glycerol) release a lot of energy when respired.
Sir, I got three 9s in biology, chemistry and physics, I can NOT thank you enough you legend!
Complex process, but well spoken and illustrated!

@@Freesciencelessons thank you so much
legend cheers
Will you cover applied science level 3?
We love you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ thank you for the lessons xoxoxo
thank you! :)
When will you be posting a level chemistry and physics videos
The whole of Year 12 Chemistry is already on and I'll be starting Year 13 soon. I won't be making A level Physics videos as I have never taught it.
@@Freesciencelessonscould you please make separate playlist for Year 13 chemistry A level like whole other section for it
@@Freesciencelessonsis content for whole of year 12 a level biology finished?
