This was the first mix I ever heard from Mark Farina and it captivated me, hadn't heard anything like it. It led me to listen to his other work and I'm not ashamed to say I loved the Mushroom Jazz series because it was so different. Also led me to the OM label which was another good find in itself. So thank you Mr Farina!
Such a special level of groove and funk. I also appreciate that he mixes in good old hip hop and such too. If you ever get the chance to see him live, def do it!!
I first heard mark farina in the early 92' via a volume of mixed tapes(@ Om Labs) he put out called mushroom jazz as everyone knows the cd volumes of more recent decade (2000)not the same. Mark farina enlightened my life,in the way I enjoy music,a gift that is priceless. A true legend only those who can understand will appreciate.
I feel you sir. I grew up listening to Mark way back when he had a full head of hair. I actually have this whole album on tape. Many weekends were enjoyed listening to this with fungus and blotter paper.
@Kaci McCall Thanks for posting this mix. I was looking for it under the United DJ of America release with no luck. This mix is how I first discovered the legendary Mr Farina!
Had this and lost and found it about 8 times over the years here in SF...."you know....the one with the train on it at the beginning!" Somehow thought it was called Remedy, like the club. Note to self REWIND. or. Frisko Disco
I guess the main title was orignally 'United DJ's of America volume 9', so I've heard from 10,000 comments. It was on my CD called REWIND, but hey. Whatever you call it, it bangs forever.
Farina: just a name keeping something bigger alive...long live that deep chicago sound, "cuz house music will never die." Thanks for sharing, we won't stop jackin', shakin' the ground...
This mix is, and always will be, Frisco Disco to me. That was its original name and it far better captures the sound Mark was playing back then, not to mention the real San Fran sound too. Wish I had a chance to visit Frisco back then.
Sight, friend. I don't know you but I think I understand why you like this music. I heard Mark Farina around the same time from a tape given to me. Never stopped listening since then.
oh man the memories - this set basically got me into house - this and the cafe del mar chillhouse 2 set by bruno set a path to the deeper side for me...
aint that the truth! 'music, is the answer, to your problems, keep on movin, and you can solve em. So when you feel like you can't take no more...and you're feet are heading for the door....just keep on dancin, and movin. Movin, and groovin. Try and, stop your cryin. Music is the answer' (Danny Tangalia TUNNNE)
Wow thanks for sharing this GEM..I found mushroom jazz 4 years ago i know im way late to the party but looking at these comments is so uplifting. Makes me wish i grew up in the 80s so i could have been following him around the country, going to shows.
truth is crucial to this world now more than ever. IDK what this comment has to do with this video, however I welcome it...because MUSIC IS THE TRUTH!!!

Man Mark Farina is the truth... I wish I could find anything from his album 'Connect' on youtube, in order to buy it from OM Records, last I checked you had to buy a package of like three albums, the other two of which I already have, this album 'Rewind' reminds me of it and I believe Connect came out in '02, these two are probably the best I've heard other than San Francisco Sessions (non-Mushroom Jazz that is)
I've been lucky to catch him a few times, including Movement Detroit Music Festival, he always kills it and keeps me dancing the whole time. Super nice guy too.
IF ANYONE IS DOWN TO SHARE THIS ALBUM WITH ME SHOOT ME A MESSAGE. IM A BROKE ART STUDENT THAT LOVES MUSIC AND NEEDS THESE BEATS FOR MY LONG TRAIN RIDES!!
Yeah it was first released under that name. Look it up on Discogs. I even had it on vinyl. I think there may have been some licensing issues or DMC (which was the label that it was released on, and which, believe it or not, is the same DMC as in turntablism competition runners of old) might have had some issues.
I'm not very familiar with this style... I'm rather coming from the Mushroom Jazz compilations. This sounds a bit similar to Saint Germain. Interesting...
Theres a tracklist in the description, just fyi! but unfortunately they don't have time stamps. Opener is "Crustation - flame" (Mood II Swing borderline insanity dub mix)
theres a similar albumto this that you posted but i think u might of deleted, it was about an hour and 6 minutes long mark farina house mix? i miss that playlist cuz this ones reminding me of it and i forgot about it cuz it vanished until this album came out . the picture on the video was a black backroud with streaks of greenish blueish and pinkish lines with some dots on the video and i think it said house * blank not sure what came after house, if you know what im talking about plz tellme!(:
1 Crustation -- Flame (Borderline Insanity Dub) Remix -- Mood II Swing (1997) 2 Peter Funk -- Dreams Of You (1998) 3 Tim Deluxe -- I Know (Original Mix) (1997)
oh mannnn i bet. I'm a Detroit girl too, been to every DEMF/Movement since day 1! Only made it to an afterparty once or twice, I'm always too beat from dancing all day, haha!
Had this. Lost it. Found it recently. Now playing it daily. Discovered Mr. Farina via Mushroom Jazz (don't judge me), but then went looking for every mix I could find. This may be my favorite; if there is something better someone please enlighten me!
This was the first mix I ever heard from Mark Farina and it captivated me, hadn't heard anything like it. Always a crowd favorite. The hustle is real
Man, it's always a tossup between this, Mark's SF Sessions CD, or Doc's Songs of Love and Understanding. Big ups for posting this!
