    It took me up to "In Poland we like to drive dynamically" to realize you're not native english. After that I started watching for license plate and stuff. So much of your english. Well done sir.

    Good, concise review, thanks very much. It was interesting to hear about the relatively poor headroom, that's the first time I've heard a reviewer mention this and quite a big consideration.

      Glad it was helpful!
      Many people like to lean back, which is not the proper driving position. If you lean back, during an accident your body can slide from under the seatbelt into footwell. However I know many taller drivers have no choice, but to lean back, so paradoxically they may not notice the headroom problem like I did.

      I have 1.8iVtec petrol. It takes only 7 liters in urban conditions at minus temperatures and driving quicker then most out there. Which means in summer it is around 6 liters which is great.Engine 1.8 is one of the most reliable still out there on the market next to Toyota engines 1.8

      Boot space is larger then Passat B8 models and rear magic seats are great you can fit a mountain bike there.

    Good review, not sure if Honda NZ will bring the tourer in, we drive the Hatch 1.8 petrol and must say it's a fantastic drive. You are right about needing to stretch the petrol to get it going, I also switch off econ and use the paddle shifters to liven it up. Handling is brilliant!, it feels screwed to the road around country bends and the build quality as you rightly pointed out is fantastic.
    The design may not be for all, I personally love it as it offers a refreshing respite from the ordinary.

    As I'm started owning facelifted hatch 1.6 diesel in top executive trim, it's interesting to compare opinions here. And you are very accurate! Height in front is really on the edge, because tank is under front seats and you can sometimes hear disturbed fuel flow in it, unpleasant. Steering wheel could be more grippy. I'm not sure if econ reduces power, maybe just dampens. But it gives one very nice feature to cruise control: it reacts gradually to changes not trying to speed up instantly. Even on low profile tyres bumps are dealt superb, it's one of the big surprises in this car. But sound proofing from road noice is not good, I even don't like listening music for that. Steering is also really precise, but wide tyres makes bit nervous on tracked roads. Visibility and ergonomics for such futuristic design is just great, as the dashboard. Magic seats are fantastic, I put my dog to sit in there :) My main complain is sound proofing from road noise. But I like it.

    Taller drivers will push the driver seat back and will have more headspace when compared to your seating position as the roof gets higher towards the back.

      Just bought this model 2014 with only 86.000km looks like a brand new car basic sport trim. Except crusie control and bluetooth it has nothing special but the car feels like a sport civic hatchback version. Pretty agile and boot space larger then bigger competition which costs double or triple the price. Headspace with me at 180cm is actually ok. Enough room...I guess many like to ride with the steering wheel at their chest meaning pulling seat to steering which is a death wish in colision.

    5:51 if you have heavy foot in Urban conditions this car will take around 7.5-8liters. If you know how to use this engine efficient you will go down to 6.8 as tested on -8°C temp filling the tank. BC shows at least 0.5 liters more if not more. So don't get scared.😂

      Kupio model 2014 1.8ivtec crne boje pre nedelju dana sa samo 86.000km. Prodao nemačko govno Passat B8 2.0tdi i uzeo ovo čudo od auta. Japanci me nikad nisu izneverili. Gepek je veći nego kod Passata u svakom slučaju testirano već. Motor jedan od najpouzdanijih na evropskom tržištu. U statistikama se skoro i ne pojavljaje kada su kvarovi u pitanju. Ulje se menja u ovom motoru na 10.000 i do 300.000 nema popravke. Sa 300.000se eventualno menja španer lanca. Inače lanci iz ovog motor posle 200.000km su potpuno kao novi kada se izmeri dužina.

    Hi Marek, great reviews! I'm living in Poland, and I'm thinking about getting the civic 5D or a mazda 3 hatchback, what's your advice? I was in a mazda 3 sedan 2014 before, I had enough head clearance, however the civic's interior seems to appeal me more, I haven't seen it in person though. Comfortable ride, fuel efficiency and reliability are very important to me. Thanks in advance.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 9 лет назад +1

      +HELLienadO Honda has better interior and bigger boot. Visibility may be an issue. Honda's 1.8 petrol engine seems alright. We'll have to wait a couple of years to reliability reports about Mazda3. But Mazda's 1.5 engine is a fun little thing. Likes to be revved, but can maintain decent economy, when driven lightly.

    is the quality of the civic better than those on nissan pulsar?
    i have to make the decision for second car, normal city-around activity
    and a little bit of autobahn, kids for school...things you don't want your heavy
    diesel-kombi use for. what would you say?

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 8 лет назад

      I think Civic feels a bit better put together. That said Pulsar was a pleasant surprise. And it's more spacious. My friend, who has three kids, bought it as his city runabout, and is very pleased with it.

      this 1.2 liter pulsar-engine, how bad is this thing on autobahn-speed,
      130-140 km/h? do you remember on that?

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 8 лет назад

      It should be fine, as long as you plan ahead. Mind you in small engines fuel economy is out the window on motorway.
