im from EU they go here for around 100$, those other speakers cost almost twice as much
@@mat_j where can I get them for that price? Only offers I can find in the EU are €350
@@sdrtcacgnrjrc im from Poland, right now pair is 300 Euro
@@mat_j ah, okay, you said 100 above.
@@sdrtcacgnrjrc for a speaker, and when I bought them few months ago that was basically the price
The AE100 Mk2 has lots of "character".
This video was a good one. You discussed the listening experience. You explained the way measurements can fit in and increase understanding of "why" a speaker sounds like it does. You discussed the measurements. You took the speaker apart. Finally, you recommended some other options.
Seems like the whole package is here. Nice work, Erin.
Great to see an AE review. Their speakers are so ubiquitous, but I think you are the first to do measurements of one.
The British Audiophile gave these an OUTSTANDING award 🙌👏
He is pretty good, I do watch.
This review is more technical and easier for me to understand.
@@chuckmaddison2924
I think he's hypnotised you with his suave soothing voice and his calm demeanour.
I'm not interested in what they claim, I'm interested in seeing them demonstrate their claims and showing me how good their ears are, talk is cheap.
@crazyprayingmantis5596 Trust me he's not. I can see his faults. Have a look at this dude he just changed electrophysics. ruclips.net/video/7Thbj_FIUMU/видео.htmlsi=K2U70gMq01sZg2pJ
Not these, but floor standers AE 109 mkII. They could be a like, but nobody can say for sure unless they will be measured or heard side by side. I like BA who does not hype everything he reviewed. There are some relatable informations.
Thank God there's someone rejecting some products and talks about it. Your channel is becoming one of my favorites!
I just love the hard data you provide in conjunction with subjective insights. Always transparent and honest. Great work!
I appreciate that!
Thank you for the wonderful reviews! Pls keep 'em coming!
Jizz you are killing it right now !!! thanks for the awesome work as usual
Erin is the best of two worlds, which is to marry the subjective with the objective.
I bought these for the compact size (they are very compact) because I needed to provide background music at a family get together. For a large space at low volume they actually worked great. I think the boosted highs may have helped the low volume clarity in such a large space. Would never use them as my home setup but definitely have their place in my travel setup.
Great review and recommendations!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I know the AE100Mk2's intimately at this point. I think the performance of these loudspeakers will vary greatly on your choice of components and of course placement and room. These speakers can do an incredible disappearing act and come alive in the right setup. I am using 2 REL sub-woofers, high level connections of course to get the best out of subs which fills in the mid-range and bottom of the AE's. In this manner with other tweaks (choice cables, passive power conditioning) the AE's will sound like a much more expensive system...hands down! Cheers
You are very good. The measurements are interesting!
Thank you!
Hay, there is a great marketing term chance in the data! "With our patented Triple Trendline Technology™ we ensure an exciting rollercoaster of sound!" 😂
That’s pretty clever. 😂
These are off the list! Ok, they weren't even on the list. 😄
I hope the owner wasn't in love with them, because they will never hear them the same now.
These listening impressions, then backed up with the detailed data are awesome.
😂
This is why you have to always audition in your budget range even if you like a reviewer and understand the data: didn't like the elacs and kef you mentioned and love these with my recapped nad 3020A in my bedroom
Thx again for your work ✌🏿
oh man, these are highly regarded by reviewers across the pond. i was saving to get a pair myself. may need to rethink that strategy. thanks.
Another interesting speaker evaluation and one that goes against many of the influencers on RUclips that gushed praise for on this speaker.
The British Audiophile was particularly horny for how good this speaker performed saying and I quote “it has inklings” of his ProAc response speaker at $3k. 🤔
Erin must be totally wrong with his evaluation. 😉🙂
Brian.
To my surprise Cheap Audio Man mentioned its flaws (give or take), described in Erin's measurements, like the top end bump. CAM does admit he likes 'clarity', lol.
But the British Audiophile talks in such a calm, confident and sophisticated way so he must have golden ears and we must take him very very seriously.
@@crazyprayingmantis5596
'Golden ears' are not necessarily sophisticated ears (MoFi anyone?) 😄 Anyway, it's all about 'taste' I guess..

Don't get me started about Mofi, I can't believe people still give their $ to that low life company
Or the audiophiles room enhance them ,work with ,and Erin's doesn't
Like after watching video, and comment.
Thank You 🙏 for another great analysis and review.
This shows again that oldies can be goldies the times when AE aegis one was their entry level. 500€ a pair and sounds awesome compared to many todays offerings that cost 1000€
I'd love to see how the original AE100/i/SE compare. I've got a few pairs that used to be my main listening system when a teenager and used for a cinema, now audio in my garage. 🥰
Thank you for dropping the knowledge bombs! The on axis response doesn't look terrible at first glance, but man is that estimated in room response awful!
Ty. Very good review:) testing a few years the more expensive ae. And triangle against my dls r60. Ae had great bass and control. The cabinet was heavy so. Something else this one. Triangle was brighter, but I love my dls. So I didn’t buy anything else
Interesting results and feedback, I've heard mainly positive stuff on these so far, and was going to try them out before I decided to splurge on the AE500's. Maybe I dodged a bullet. I do wish I had my AE500's sent to you first when I bought them, but I snatched them from eBay and didn't have the time to coordinate something like that, and of course I didn't keep the packaging. Curious on what your thoughts would have been on tonality with the same carbon fiber material making up the tweeter and main driver.
It's time you put GSR Reaserch to the test. 😅
This or the B5.2 or the much cheaper Kali LP-UNF for against the wall desktop uses (and playing music in the room) in a 15m^2 room?
AE100 Mk2 vs Kanto YU Passive 5.25". Which is best for a desktop speaker?
Any chance of getting Dennis to send you his newer BMR HT Tower for review?
Those seem like great speakers and affordable !
Possibly!
I don't choice narrow port design. Usually they have port resonance.
Just confirms what sims show me - slot ports at the top or bottom of the enclosure result in some pretty bad harmonic resonances exiting the port.
That’s good to know. What software did you use? Horn Response by any chance?
@@ErinsAudioCorner Yup, Hornresp and one of my BOXPLAN workbooks which can produce an equivalent Hornresp sim for a slot-loaded vented box. What the model also shows is that it might be possible to reduce the harmonic resonances by careful choice of vent size, driver location and making sure that the entrance to the vent is not right at the bottom (or top) of the box. It's a rough model, but it seems to work fairly well.
Interesting
I'd not thought of that. However, it dove tails precisely with small room behavior, ... ie., all top-to-bottom resonances have coincident peak pressure modes at the boundary.
Here I was thinking diaphragmatic excitation of the slot port execution was what Erin was alluding to.
Same goes for round ports. Especially in taller enclosures, you shouldn't put them on either end. Same goes for the woofer (well unless you simulated it this way and it works well, this is just a rule of thumb)
@@lennart637 That's correct. The effect isn't limited to slot vents. It's primarily dependent on the location of the vent's internal end in the enclosure. I believe that you're also correct about the woofer position. I've done a few sims and it seems that the best position for the woofer (to reduce harmonic resonances emerging through the vent) is dead center of the baffle, with the vent's internal opening located 1/3rd of the way from the internal bottom (or top) to the center of the woofer, and halfway between the front and back of the enclosure (the use of a bent or angled vent could be used to achieve this). I suspect however that this will change with the geometry of the box, so it's best to sim the layout before committing it to a build.
That mid range bump is why I wouldn't
Which speaker has the best data so we can just all buy that one.
None. No such thing as a perfect speaker. I’ve discussed this many times over the years.
What amps do you generally test with?
I have a Mcintosh MC462 as well as an old Denon AVR that I use.
@@ErinsAudioCornerThanks for the clarification.
I want to send you a pair of my diy I would like to see how they look on your kippel but they are 100 lbs a piece and the shipping would cost a fortune
Not speaker related, but the mic in the red circle takes the focus away from the video! ;)
I hear ya'.
I 100% agree. Have the same issue as well.
@@ErinsAudioCornermaybe a tinted cover for when it's video time ?
So I think you nailed it with the Emit 20 they eat them for breakfast 😉
Not many speakers that you do like ! I have watched a lot of your videos.
I’ve liked 6 of the last 8 speakers I’ve reviewed.
But yes, if I don’t like something I say it. Others admittedly don’t review anything they don’t like. I feel that’s a disservice to the community.
@ErinsAudioCorner I probably should not have made that comment, but I am the same way. I hear things in speakets that other people do not hear. I sometimes wish my ears were not so critical.
👍
Are there any speakers you like ?
Sure. The last 12 of 15 speakers I’ve reviewed.
Who makes the drivers?
I’m not sure.
hello, how many hours do you run the speakers befor your start to messure and listen to them?
I own the mk1, and they sound realy thin at the beginning, aber buying. it took 50-80 Hours until they started to sound warmer.
I had around 50 hours total. Pink noise at moderate volume over the span of a few days while at work.
It would be nice if you could include PEQ filters and give impressions with the filters as well. Thanks
It’s an idea I’ve kicked around. Question is, how many of my viewers have DSP that they can and would use? I’m assuming not many for stereo setups. At least, not the kind with assignable parametric EQ. Maybe I’m wrong.
@@ErinsAudioCorner Hi Erin all Wiim products now offer PEQ and shelf filters. For a computer setup, Equalizer APO is free.
@@ErinsAudioCorner
I guess I'm one of the 'not many' > Minidsp Flex. However, watching reviews like yours saved me buying flawed speakers in the first place. Btw, you can always add a poll to see how many are interested in PEQ filters.
@@34332I 100% hear you.
I heard those speakers. I don't like it so much. It is depends what you playing but Overall i coude rate 4/10
Раньше корпуса и динамики у них лучше были. Мои первые колонки были этой фирмы.
Hifi , look at all speakers and other equipment. Reviewers will always say the British sound, American sound, the Dali sound or classical B&W sound or similar. Yet it's all accurate, according to the manufacturer. My conclusion it's all crap and none of it comes even close to live..
I have Dali and NAD..I like the Dali sound 😊
Get your viewer to send them to Danny for an upgrade. That’s not a crossover, its bits of cheese.
I like cheese. On my burgers. And pizza. :)
Danny's workflow looks like this : Decrease sensitivity to hunt flatness. He is just EQing bad speaker designs with crossover parts. And also crossing tweeters lower possibly killing the dynamic range.
@@ErinsAudioCorner not me. I’m Vegan
@@pulDag are you an expert with actual speaker development experience or just a guy with an opinion who thinks the manufacturers always know best?
5:56 That is quite possibly the worst resonance kink I've ever seen in an impedance plot. Wow!
Yeah, it’s pretty bad. There’s another one right around 700Hz that I didn’t even catch until after I posted this video. 😔
Remember the British Audiophile gave these an OUTSTANDING!!!
I have some R&D experience in my background. This is just lazy design. Or their project cost got too high to scrap it and start over😅

There isn’t a single manufacturer that measures speakers together. Think about what you’re saying for a minute.
We can all agree that this is bad design crossover with bad drivers :D
...in addition to poor enclosure design for the given drivers.

$500. Not sure where you are but your currency surely isn’t US dollars if you’re only saying 100.
