I've been made aware that the volume of the background music in some places in this video is too loud. I'm working on finding the correct hard drive with the original project stored on it so that I can adjust the levels properly. I promise, I'm working on it. I've got probably 100TB of data to sift through to find the correct project. I'll post an update once I've found it.
I was 13 years old, driving back to Utah County from Goblin Valley when Billys Mountain slid. Highway 6 was already buckled. Traffic was backed up to Soldier Summit from Spanish Fork Canyon.
At 4:48 in the video, is a still shot of the eastbound California Zephyr on the Altamont Pass, east of Livermore, California, in March of 1970. The train in the photo has passed under the westbound lanes of what is now I-580 (formerly US-50) and is crossing over the eastbound lanes. The headend power is Western Pacific 805A. D&RGW power will head up the train between SLC and Denver. I love this shot because it’s so close to my home. I got to ride this train from Chicago to Oakland when I was around eight years old (circa 1964). I knew about this photo because it’s the first one in the Wikipedia article about the California Zephyr.
@8:55 Little did Mike know, there would be no nect time. Tbh, Just came across this and what a great job at sharing the events that took place to this little town. Time to check out other videos of yours 👍
I came to your channel after seeing the flooded house from another you tube channel which they talked about the landslide . Very informative how you described what happened and what caused the initial slide. Amazing what man can do when obeying mother nature, when it goes sideways like this , such a tragic loss....great video thanks for sharing
Similar situations like this have happened in the past. For example, the Vajont Dam Disaster. Fortunately, the flooding of Thistle didn't result in loss of life. The Vajont Dam disaster resulted in several villages being wiped off the map in Italy.
I really enjoyed this video, it was well put together. I drive through Thistle all the time, and remember going there when it flooded when I was 10 years old. Great job! Keep up the good work 👍
A nice video I just wish when people were narrating good videos they would edit it so the music didn't play so loud, makes it very difficult to hear the narration. I've been involved in video editing, its not that hard to do people.
I have a video where I try fishing off of the house in the pond but I would actually like to provide more information about the house and town it's self. I was wondering if you'd mind me putting a link to your video in the description.
We comment on airplane videos. I watched this one due floods we got last year in my hood. Very good video that deserve more views due prevention is the way to go.
There was no stopping this slide due to the excess amounts of snow and rain in winter of 1982-1983. The Rio Grande had no way of stopping this, the largest landslide in US history.
We've had major draughts the past several years and the water level has fallen significantly. That said, I was up there a few weeks ago after several rain storms passed through and the roads were almost flooded out.
@@mountainmikeoutdoors oh really? I don’t wanna sound excited about it, but that’s amazing! Lol. I haven’t been by for a little while and I’m in Spanish Fork a couple of times a week.
i dont care what anyone says, that stupid barn is HAUNTED!!!! I wont go anywhere near that place. it has a very bad aura, even in the day time. once i went in there and it was jam packed to the ceiling with kid bikes. KID BIKES!!!! Someone got creeped out and called the cops and it was cleared out. next time my friends went back, it was full of women and childrens ripped clothes, backpacks, and kid dirty toys. something is very wrong with that place and the cops dont seem to care enough to get to the bottom of it. just be very careful out there plz. oh, and the farm with the big "WN" above the entrance, that was willie nelsons old farm that the irs seized due to tax issues. just a cool fun fact 🙂🤫
Cool fact about Willie Nelson's farm. I actually know a lot of the county Sheriff's department. The barn became a dump for people that wanted to ditch belongings, and also became a dump for thieves looking to ditch things that couldn't be fenced.
@@windowlicker_4207 Its not a barn its the old UDOT State Road Shed. Thistle is not forsale. It is entirely private except for the Utah Sheriffs shooting range. Please stay out!

The house that is left is my Aunt Afton and Uncle Von Gardner's house. He worked as an railroad engineer

Music way too loud. Hard to hear voice.
@@rodneyhirsch2340 got it. I'm trying to locate the original file to get the levels adjusted.
Enjoyed this informative video on the area. Good work!!

@@Bigdog5899 interesting feedback. Would you be willing to give me a timestamp? I can just reupload it rebalanced.
I drive threw thissle quite alot its sad that the only remnant left is a house still half under water
As a matter of fact I do like this video I find it interesting
Cant hear what your saying because of the music
Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to find the original file and adjust the audio levels.

More people should be linking and sharing these videos. So well put together, should have so much more views.

True, but they could have brought attention to it, so people had more time to evacuate
When I did my video of this place a few years ago, the water was a lot deeper. Not as deep nowadays though.
