Correction for the guide. The city used to be called Scampini and the castle used to be there during the Roman Empire, as the city was part of the very important Egnatia Road, which connected Rome with Constantinople. The deeper layers of the castle walls belong to the Roman period, and archaeologists even discovered the remains of a Roman aqueduct that connected the citadel to a water source in the north of the city. The citadel was destroyed with the fall of the Roman empire, due to the barbarian migration. Turks took the city after they failed to defeat Skanderbeg in Kruja. They rebuilt the walls of the Roman castle and set base there, but they didnt' build the castle from scratch. They conquered the city and decided to use it as a base for further conquests, hence the name. And it is the third largest city after Durres and Tirana, based on the population.

David i am sure you missed Medu vada when you had those dough nut shape fritters. You havent yet seen or tasted the indian way of making home made butter in our villages.Albania looks beautiful.
I wouldn't say ottoman city berat cuz it's more then 2500 years old city berat But when ottoman invades albania they made some changes to the city but berat and all of albania are older then Turkey and many more countries around Albania so UNESCO has to reconsider

Why is Erlan promoting the Ottoman Empire so much?...unbeliveable. Elbasan is not a turkish Town. It was not founded by the Turks... Albania has ottoman influences due to the history, like it has influence from the roman empire and so on. So has Greece, Bulgaria and so on... you should change your guide as he is misinforming you and your viewers! What he says is wrong and and misleading.
