My great uncle Roland Galland was a rifleman at Utah Beach for the 4th infantry division on June 6th. A few days into the battle he was injured by an artillery shell that threw him into a tree and burst his appendix. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
My grandpa was in the 4th,8th regiment antitank company. He was in the 3rd battalion 2nd wave on the beach. He made it all the way to the end of the war. He suffered from trench foot for the rest of his life.
Was he wounded on June 6?My grandfathers were both at Utah Beach with the 4th. My father's father Benjamin Compton (4th ID 12th IR 3 Batalion HQ Company) was wounded under identical circumstances on June 17th when a shell hit a tree. Most of the men with him were killed.
Thank you gentlemen of all the nations that served. 🙏
My grandfathers were there, Jesse B Davis, 4th ID 8th IR, and Benjamin Compton, 4th ID 12th IR.
Thank you for featuring these brave men!
Thank you.
Very Good film, never knew existed
