Hey Jimmy you could test the wastegate by unhooking the pressure line and pressurizing it while the car is running and you'll hear the wastegate open and close it it's working properly and you'll know what pressure it opens at if you use a gauge

I had the same problem with my SR20DET. Changed 3 wastegates, from turbosmart to tial, played with springs etc. - no joy. Turned out exhaust manifold was a bit of faulty and turbo was too big. It was easier for gas to go through the turbo instead of wastegate, which caused the issue. If you would put a smaller turbo probably it would be OK, however, it seems you will have to swap that manifold. PRO TIP: get the one which have perfect place for wastegate, under the non abs brake booster, saves tons of time ;)

@10:42, this means you have a mechanic boost creep issue. IE. your wastegate isnt large enough to expell the extra gasses which is causing your turbo to continue to spool up even when the gate is opened. very common for backyard build cars. i think your down pipe and your waste gate merger pipe have to be fixed, you need a larger waste gate and larger waste gate pipe (merging into your down pipe).. this will allow all the extra gas to leave the turbo without continually creeping the boost pressure.
I had the same issue on my SR22 with a TurboSmart gate (14psi) the tuner couldn’t control boost with wastegate off and would creep to 22psi. It was tuned like that and I beat on it for like 5k miles lots of track action etc then at my first drift day something happened and it started making 14psi and no more. I think the fire ring wasn’t seared correctly but the constant abuse of drifting must of done something. Also my power curve was super linear with the way the boost came in. No joke
I have a turbosmart gate on my FD and I had a hard time since forever in figuring out why it kept creeping. I runs completely fine since my PFC limits it to 14 psi. I'm not sure if it's the spring that's on it because sometimes it'll stay open after pulling.
I have a turbosmart compgate 40 on my VR6T car and the only way I could combat creep was to run a lot of boost. Like 14psi spring would creep to 19psi 27psi doesn’t a creep a pound.
I got my sr20det 180sx tuned last week. Made 300hp and 300 torque on 98 octane at 20psi. Forged bottom end and standard head with a small port on intake and exhaust. Thought you'd make more torque than that with your sr

Turbo technology has come so far i reckon it out does the manifold flow specs, those ridiculous places where wastegates sit doesnt cut it anymore. chop that U bend runner off, weld a vband straight off the collector. once those gases are ripping high in the powerband you cant control it anymore, almost as if you need to prioritise wastegate flow over turbo flow these days. whatta you reckon?
You want turbo flow prioritized. Will kill the spool between shifts which is dumb. People are just cheap and don't get a big enough wastegate. Most of these fancy turbos should have two wastegates.

Hey our gas is just fine, I'm on a t28 at 18psi with a stock bottom end sr20 and it made 301 on pump with a martin tune
