@@TheGruntski The salaries were never the main issue, no one joins the army to make money and the Canadian army is already one of the best paid in NATO.
The intake was always the problem. Every Canadian soldier in the past 20 years will tell you the same story: They had to tireless hound their recruiters every step of the way to make any progress in joining. And then once they're in, they'd have to wait for months in holding platoons to start basic training. After all that, if you end up in an army that doesn't even have usable sleeping bags, guys are going to leave as soon as they can.
THe CDS here VERY SURPRISINGLY seems to understand the issue. Whether they've actually done something effective about it is another story, we'll see.

I genuinely wish Gen. Carignan the best in bringing our Military back to it's former greatness and glory!! Also, I wish our Government (whenever we have one) would smartly increase Defense spending to hit the NATO 2% or even exceeding that target. Our National Defence Forces are an integral part of a functioning Canada, be it in a Peacekeeping role or defence at home or if be in a theatre of war, Canada has an incredible Military History that I for one would like to see continued!

Soldier's ability to do their duty requires strength and endurance amongst other things. Lowering standards for female soldiers just to allow more of them to qualify for the job is quite frankly a risk for their safety and the safety of those around them.
