    學到了😁,但比起單字,那種由簡單的字詞拼起來的片語感覺更困難
    像是之前聽到 "You have to put your foot down" 意思是 "to act firmly",沒學過的話會一頭霧水

      每個語言文化都有這樣的句子,英國和美國人有些時候聽不懂大家的說法,可能要看電視聽收音機才能學到😊
      好像 ”this is not kosher”-“kosher” 本來是猶太人才懂的詞彙,但在紐約或者洛杉磯,大部份人都會明白的。

      大部份美國人都看過「歡樂滿人間」雖然根本不太是一個字,但大部份美國人都知道這個「字」🤣

    These are certainly fancy words to express one's feelings. I have never used the phrase eclectic mix in my career so that is a riveting reminder for me.

    這個影片很棒耶,很有提升英文用詞能力。
    不過身為一個中文母語人士,我在思考的是我可以靈活運用中文用詞表達的詞彙,提升字裡行間的美感;可換到英文,目前對我來說還是偏向單字,我沒有辦法掌握到單詞的生命力,還無法有效地在英文詞彙裡有更好的韻律舞動。(如果將來有機會學語言學,學習拉丁羅馬辭源應該能更掌握英文的文字脈絡)

    Very well presented and very informative. “Eclectic mix” is probably British English-it is rarely used in America. The word “astute” does not have a congruent (for lack of a better word) equivalent in Chinese, but it indicates 機靈 or 機敏。Thank you, Susie.

      Rivetingly I knew these words when I was 18 🙄 huh uh well and Eclectic mix is definitely BRITISH ENGLISH, not probably.

      I think that in Cantonese 識執生 or 隨機應變 is very similar to the word "astute".

    I accidentally run into your channel but feel some vague familiarity. It’s like I met you in China and you were very memorable, or maybe I don’t have good memories. I'm truly happy about your next journey pursuing your master's at Oxford. I've also been doing my PhD in the US. I guess in a way we both may miss the times in China from a few years ago.     There is a decoration style called "eclectic",means you put top-class furnitures together,they will fit each other automatically. I learnt it from Dr.Frasier.😃
