Apparently 2011, there was a New game called Mappy world, only in Japan's mobile market. It's graphic and art style was a little more than snes. You would go around the world and a lot of different things based on where are. But there are no gameplay videos, only screen shots
Great video! I'm a huge fan of the Mappy series. The original Mappy Arcade game is actually my favorite game of all time because it's really fun, has a really great difficulty factor on fun and challenge, it's very unique, and overall addicting game. I love Mappy-Land and I consider it as a really great follow up to the original Mappy. While I still prefer the original Mappy, I still have a really great time with Mappy-Land and it's definately one of my all-time favorite games. I love Mappy Kids as well, I do agree that Mappy and Mappy-Land are superior to Mappy Kids, but it's really fun in my opinion. Not to be that guy lol but you actually play as Mappy's son Happy in this game and it has a two player co-op where the second player play as his brother Rappy. I also find Mappy Kids the easiest in the Mappy series. I know you're covering the Famicom Mappy games :) But I'd like to point out which I'm curious if you know :) Mappy also has an Arcade sequel that came out the same year as Mappy-Land for Famicom, and it's called Hopping Mappy. It plays quite differently from Mappy and Mappy-Land in a sense it's in isometric view and Mappy goes around in pogo-sticks to recover the stolen items of Goro and the Meowkies. Hopping Mappy is also a really great game and unfortunately like Mappy Kids, it's also Japan exclusive. There's also a modernized version of Mappy made in 1995 where you can even play 2-player co-op which is called Mappy Arrangement for the Arcade. It's released on Namco Classic Collection Vol.1 for Arcade and it contains Mappy, Galaga, Xevious, and their Arrangement versions.
I love it! Yeah, I had a short bit about Hopping Mappy in my original cut but since I'd never played it and didn't know what I was talking about I removed it to focus purely on the Famicom titles :) Such fun games, I really enjoyed them - and looking forward to the day I can play Mappy Kids multiplayer with my kids: there aren't many 2P simultaneous platformers on any 8-bit platform, it's quite unique!
@@syncoplay I don't blame you for not having played Hopping Mappy, that game is next to impossible to come by. Back in the 80's, Namco didn't port that game much. Sadly, not even do a NES/Famicom version of it. It also doesn't help Namco never re-released Hopping Mappy on any Namco Museum compilations, as well as Mappy Arrangement. It's quite safe to say the only way to play it is on emulator like MAME. Really cool to know you really enjoy the Mappy games. People barely cover Mappy games on videos. So seriously thank you for doing this and give the Mappy series the recognition and attention they deserve. Mappy is a really great franchise and I also wish Namco makes new Mappy games by either sequels or reboot. Pacman and Dig-Dug usually has new games in modern generation of gaming, so why not Mappy? Hope you have a fun time with your kids playing Mappy Kids. Yeah, it's uncommon an 8-bit platformer has 2-player co-op. I'd say that's pretty ahead of time.
This was fun to watch! 😊
I hope this series gets a reboot someday.
