    The first thing I picked up on in this video was the person's tone of voice that was speaking. Body language is everything when it comes to people

      Situational Awareness is about everything from Driving to work place, school, walking , grocery stories, It's a 24 hour 7 days a week of knowing your surroundings...

    Good point. Criminals usually work in teams. Pick pockets, muggers, rapists, etc... like to distract you them ambush from another direction.......

      Yup. Close encounter other day. Moved into new place. A lot of activity. Had workers in day before. Two guys show up day after claiming follow up. All that kept impressing on my mind was how “dirty they were”...in other words, get away.
      But in hindsight, I realized that I kept scanning the second guy just waiting on the step. I even was telling people after, while still shook up, God help me the guy on the step. I don’t why but I said it numerous times. I could give you a relatively good description of the guy in front of me, but I couldn’t with the guy on step, but somehow was instinctively drawn back to him repeatedly.Thank the Lord I was able to shut the door and lock it up and start calls. I was fine but This unfolded in seconds

    This is very useful and practical information. And from the sound of it, this is just barely grazing the surface of the benefits learning situational awareness could truly have!

    You say to be "alert" but I prefer "aware" because there are to many "lerts" ; )

    Being aware of not being aware; doesn't that count as being even more aware though?

    My situational awareness is almost Zero because i always felt safe in my neighborhood. I feel almost handicapped in this area. How can i perceive things differently?

    So what if you walked in the café and a guy sitting down at a table gave you a strange gut feeling, would you still get your coffee and keep a close eye on him or turn around and walk out and get your coffee somewhere else?

    • @Markevans36301
      @Markevans36301 8 лет назад +1

      +vaughnburrows I would guess it would depend on how often you get these gut feelings (are you paranoid or aware?) but I get them seldom enough that I'd get coffee somewhere else.

      What if it's a normally extremely safe environment, say, in a Nordic country? And a populated cafe? Would there be much to fear in such an environment, or do you think moving is still the safer option? I guess I'd like to hear about the variables at play here.

    What about meta-awareness? Is it the same thing?

    • @PersonalDefenseNet
      @PersonalDefenseNet  6 лет назад +2

      The idea of “meta-awareness” or “metacognition” is being aware about
      your awareness which is different. There are different types of
      situational awareness as it pertains to decision making in life
      threatening situations (or combat). The video isn’t concerned about the
      specific types or models but pointing out the importance of
      understanding no matter how hard we try it is impossible to be 100%
      focused on more than one thing. That our attention is constantly being
      divided and shifted so there is a very real chance that we can be caught
      by surprise and should train accordingly. Specifically, we should train
      for that worst case scenario, the Ambush.

  • @esaugamez8885

    Is there more than one type of awareness? I only know that mindful awareness, focussed awareness...are there more?

    Say, Yellow in a general sense, not 24/7-365...can be exactly as you presented. I look at the menu, I'm White for 5 seconds, then right back to Yellow...so on and so forth.

  • @EseMismo91

    I strongly disagree with this video. I know for a fact that you can train yourself to be in yellow at all times, and I know this because that's what I do. I can be on my phone, scrolling through Facebook, and, at the same time, I can know that my little niece is crawling behind me, trying to sneak up on me. It's something that me and my brothers have done since we were little. We'd be able to tell if, say, our dad was home just by the sound of the car, or by the sound his keys made while dangling from his pants' belt loop. It's also something that gets stronger if you're a parent, like being able to tell what's wrong with your child just by the way he/she is crying. Or the way your teacher would know if you were talking, while writing on the blackboard.

    • @themoonlightking6849
      @themoonlightking6849 7 лет назад +6

      I think that the scenarios you describe and how you gather information in those scenarios are not really examples of "being in yellow". Hearing your fathers car pull up in the driveway is no sign of situational awareness, it just means that you have ears. Of course you're aware of the situation, but that kind of situational awareness is different from the one discussed in this video.
      Also, knowing what's wrong with your children by how they cry is not situational awareness, even though you are aware of the situation. It's kind of hard to explain once you've got it wrong.
      Situational awareness would be to acknowledge the unfamiliar car driving through the neighborhood, or a stranger walking up to your neighbors house behaving abnormal, and actually taking time to mentally process that, like you do when your niece is sneaking up on you.

    • @Espike845
      @Espike845 3 года назад +2

      @@themoonlightking6849 That's all part of situational awareness though. Hearing a car pull into your driveway when no one should be coming home around that time should make you stop and maybe check it out. Just because I'm watching this youtube video doesn't mean I'm not paying attention to the world around me and that's where this video loses me.
