Very few recreational skiers can exert the kind of power and pressure you exert on your 150 boots to get them to flex like that while skiing... 🙂 Love your videos, Reilly. Keep 'em coming, man!
I could do cuff stuff. All the alignment would be a pretty tricky one to make... So many variables and I don't have all the tools with me at the moment. But could do some basics
I believe some of the after market liners can change the flex of the boot. Some manufacturers sell liners from their more stiffer boots that can be used in their more flexible boot of the same line, again changing the flex. Another factor is temperature. I find on really cold days my boots become like a rock, so I'll try having the buckles not as tight on those days as you explained in your vid.
Interested. I always ski tight with my Strolz boots and that works for me . If i drive down to Alps and have extra room in the car I take my surefoot which i like in soft spring snow and powder. I never thought of slackening off the Strolz if I fly and only have room for one pair . Food for thought 🤔 I might try if the mountains and not shut again in Feb . Enjoying you videos keep up the good work 👏
Reilly, love the vids. Been following you guys for at least 5 years. Pauly did a video about forward lean say d you're the "expert". Know a little. Length of leg bones, c of m, etc., Ramp , delt etc. I've struggled with this since I went from leather to plastic boots ( lange comps). 1969? Was watching a skiers blog and the US Atomic rep was talking about Marcel putting 25° forward lean in his boots? Talked about the reason he did it. First run of year on my touring set up hard snow softer boot ,more forward lean and wow all of a sudden im engaging the front of the ski. So jammed a shim between liner and shell, head 120, and really focused on feeling bottom of my foot, ball, shin pressure, shovel engaging etc. Would love be a vid on how to set this up. General rules, body type, height, weight etc. Starting point and how to experiment to find "perfect"! Thanks for all your help, hours on your three full length vids plus shorts! Old guy still learning!!
It is a very complex topic and would take a huge amount of effort to make a video on this. So many variables that you need to measure it would be a big task to put together.
Can't argue with the effort and knowledge required. Know any boot fitters in the states that you know of that can help with forward lean/ramp angle. Or thoughts on experimenting to find proper forward lean? Thanks!
Im 225lbs with a fair bit of muscle. But I have small feet at 24.5 and only a 96mm last and high arches😢. I classify myself as an aggressive big mtn skier. My boots are 130 flex currently, and they feel soft, especially when it gets warm. I thought it was just something I had to adapt to with my size snd small feet, but you have me curious if I could go stiffer. With my weight and narrow last, do you think I could go to a stiffer flex wc boot? Appreciate your videos.
I recently purchased an AllSpeed 130, but for a comfortable ride I had to lower the basic stiffness to 110 ... And now I ride with pleasure, like in house slippers ...
Insanely good skiing. Thanks for sharing. Question pls - how important is last of the boots? Having 98mm last now; not sure if 92mm last would kill the feet
Very important... I remember working as a boot fitter at a shop a few years ago and Salamon recommended the boot last to be about 95% - 97% of the actual foot width... So actually it recommends it to be narrower than the foot... I would agree from my experience as you can always make more room but never decrease volume effectively. (you can decrease but it's a little less precise)
@@ReillyMcGlashan how interesting, by that metric I should be in 92-94mm boots then! Something to think about for my next boots... Thanks for making these videos, really informative
I use 130's always cranked- perhaps I would be better off with 150's loosened. Does Dalbello have some sort of footbed canting system, beyond the usual cuff cant?
I recently changed my touring boots going from scarpa f1 (which I never felt 100% confident skiing) to tecnica zeroG scout (which feel much like my regular alpine boots). In the new boots I am more relaxed, and naturally in a neutral stance: if you had to bet, do you think this is more due to the stiffness providing more feedback and support, or to the shape & angles being more familiar?
I need my boots full stiff and tight in Moguls. I have 130 Flex boots Tecnica. For moguls I prefer my stiffer Salomon. Don't know why , but have preferred it this way for years and years.
Yes sometimes for me it will also depend on the conditions and temperature... in spring for example the boot done up feels like a 120... so i will have to done up... so many variables.. this was just an example of how I could do my boots depending on the type of skiing I do. But it is important that people do their own boots up in a way that makes them ski better and experimenting with variations of this can be an idea for people who have never done it before.
Dude, you should have softer boots for moguls - like Kryptons - so you can roll the feet over the bump. But I guess Scott Schmidt skied in SX 92's! LOL
@@skijgs222 I love Snowbird. Would love to come back and visit one day.. I started a ski school in Japan, so that is where I have been the past 5 winters. We had to close for this winter due to covid though as Japan has closed its borders to tourists and we only deal with international tourists. Hope the world will be back to normal next winter. I hope you have a great winter my friend. I have been playing guitar a lot, i hope you have too!?
Reilly what are those things between the bootsole and the lifters? Are they some sort of canting shims or are they supposed to increase bootsole stiffness?
Вот так дела с жесткостью ботинок! У меня Head AdvantEdge x95 only! And what to do? А мне лет уже 75. Неужели менять коней на переправе? Или вообще коньки на санки?
if you loosen say a 130 flex boot just a tad and your foot starts swimming around, almost as if the boot is too wide unless my foot is absolutely locked into the boot. Is this a last issue? I think my boots are a bit too wide, my local shop is far from 'professional' and I haven't been able to get a straight answer.
Yep, the boot is either too big in size or the last is too wide for you. Or maybe, the liner has packed out... The foot and the lower leg should be held firmly in place. To pick the right length - one should.do a shell fit. Remove the liner, put your bare foot in the shell, toes touching the front, but don't curl up them. Now measure the distance behind your heal(use a stick, fingers, or anything else that can be inserted behind your heal). You want no more than 15mm. ~10mm gives a very close and secure fit, given that the boot is the appropriate width. For width, just try different lasts and see what is the tightest you can tolerate.
@@borislavstratev thank you for the input. I sized down 2mm in last this season and so far so good 👍 My feet definitely dont hate me after a long day anymore 😅
I came across this video trying to find out how to keep my feet comfortable. After watching this I think I am tightening the strap too much and cutting off circulation.
Glad I could help.... If you are cutting off circulation that might mean you are doing it too tight... But watch out, if you are doing it too tight too might mean that you feel you need more stability which could mean your boot is too big... just food for thought as i have never seen or measured your foot.
Isn't the argument for not adjusting the buckles that you'll create lots of space within the boot? The boot may feel softer but there will also be a delay between the ski and body interface. Also just want to say in terms of production quality for ski videos your content is unmatched!
a softer boot will also do that... because it is softer it dissipates force, they do the same thing but opening a 150 flex isn't progressive. a 110 will have a progressive soft flex. They both essentially do the same thing... delayed response

On the side is for cuff alignment... and the back ones are to keep the cuff attached... I never take them off they are always attached.
where do you find men's ski boots size 34-35?
Best thing to do is call up a boot shop near you to ask. If they don't they will have to order in your size.
