- big thanks to Jhown for making this thumbnail very quickly for me, as i found out i am literally terrible at making them. i also forgot to list Technical in the credits as he was shown in here, so i hope that clears that up
here is the next hardest video ive ever had the edit, this one was tough to finish up, as there is so little documentation regarding this hacker attack. the figure heads of Team Hax and other sources allowed me to put together a fairly, well-composed explanation for what was going on during this time. a ton of researching efforts went into this, as well as a pretty big surprise you will have noticed by the time you read this description
i got 2 videos left for this year that i want to finish, one of which is just as grand in scale as this video is, potentially even bigger. im going out strong ;) - Игры
just to give a heads-up, yes i am aware of the low sound issue and i cant do much about it now unfortunately. first time i ever made a video like this with voice-over, so the audio balance kind of glossed over my head. i recommend watching at highest volume setting if you have trouble hearing

Might I suggest closed captions in the future?
I just used a volume booster
why not do text just like you did in your The Most Mysterious Extreme Demon In Geometry Dash.
I like how this is an actual HACKING scandal, and not cheating (noctafly noobas etc)
ikr? the GD community confuses simple programs that change game memory with actual hacks.
and stormfly too lol
@@Sharpless2 people call everthing hacking. ROBLOX cunts even say that they got hacked even tho, in reality they got their account stolen by a scammer. It's just so stupid seing someone call a simple scam a hack. Peace
@@brutpenta i completely fuckin agree!
The definition of hacking according to Marriam-Webster is "to gain illegal access to (a computer network, system, etc.)"
This means that stealing passwords on ROBLOX is gaining access to an account without authorization, and is therefore hacking. Also, modifying memory, like with MegaHack v5 or v6, is also hacking as RobTop has not provided authorization for the modifications made by the program.
I just watched a bit and it feels like the video is like a horror story with this music in the background lol

I wish robtop wasn't so full of himself and actually accepted the offer of teamhax to improve the security. Maybe there wouldn't be so many issues with the servers and accounts.
Be aware because i'm sure 2.2 release will spark more exploits of similar scale at some point.
There is something thing that I would love tell everyone in the gd community.
Use random generated password for geometry dash. Store your data offline. Don't trust robtop's servers if it comes to save system.
Also feel free to blame me for gathering people together who knew how to create tools for gd. Idea was to give community fast access to tools such as object limit bypass, copy hack etc.

I was shocked to see RobTop say "f**king" on the forums. It was like hearing santa say a nono-word.

It honestly just kills me inside how all of these green users from way back just got deleted permanently. I never really questioned all the "-" users or the TeamHax comments because I thought that the names just got removed over time by RobTop and that a random Korean player from back then got hacked and changed to TeamHax. All of the "-" users were going to keep their names. The TeamHax comments were from many users. This hacking basically killed most of the 2014 Geometry Dash community.
that's just horrifying to think about. Countless souls lost forever, crying out from within a monstrous golem.
jesus christ robtop fix your game
Surprisingly my 2016 account survived this catastrophe event, idk what happened, how and why but it's an unregistered account and nothing changed at all
I was wondering why the level creators didn't have names, i joined in September 2020 so i wasn't aware of what happened until i saw this video
@quriguess true, they were kinda bad at the game lol

I have started playing GD around early 1.9 and I only remember small things about this scandal, like Roadbose's and Powerbomb's account merging together, and the deletion of RobTop's first level. But I didn't know that this hacking scandal was THIS big. It's disturbing to see that this game is very unsafe, and is beyond repairing.
So thats how the delete limit was born? Damn thats interesting
I gues this video needs a part 2 now.
I find hilarious that once again, RobTop got warned in advance about a massive exploit on GD, tried to be tone deaf about it and do nothing pretending it doesn't exist and now because of that the massive exploit is out in the public and now GD can be straight up a potential virus
I still remember the time when the hacking scandal happened, I remember when Roadbose’s account became Powerbomb’s, I remember a lot of things from that era, and at the time I never noticed how much it MARKED the community, but thinking about it now, it almost gives me chills how much damage was done is such a short period of time.
😔
i uploaded sonic wave infinity from riots account lole
I luckily was aware of most of TeamHax's story because of a friend I won't mention. Like Glitter said, it really hurts to see that a lot of people were actually having fun with this and only a small part of the community actually cared about the situation...
the thumbnail brings back memories :^)

@@joechristo2 yup robtop should really work on antihack systems
i wonder if this is still the biggest hacking scandal
it is trust me
Compared to anaban, yeah
This is DEFINITELY RobTop's fault, not "no one's". What he did is complete negligence, and TeamHax was trying their absolute best to warn his lazy ass. It baffles me that RobTop didn't immediately take action the moment he was being warned. Not only the topic itself was already serious on its own, he was being warned MULTIPLE F**KING TIMES - implying that this was not just an average amateur type of exploit/hacking. He was already EXTREMELY LUCKY enough that TeamHax was vigilant about the possible exploits, even going an extra mile and OFFERED HIM security improvements, instead of using what they discovered to abuse the game's already vulnerable and lackluster system, but what did he do? He didn't f**king listen! He f**king wasted a massive opportunity that was literally presenting itself in front of his face!
What makes this negligence by RobTop so goddamned frustrating, and in my opinion, is the main person to be blamed, is that most, if not the entire hacking scandal could have been avoided if he just used some extra brain cells to listen to TeamHax. I'm not saying that the ones who initiated the server attack were innocent and not to be blamed. They were complete assholes and 100% responsible for the attack, but they were avoidable, if RobTop just listened.
I don't care if RobTop eventually fixed the problem, the damage was already done, and unfortunately for us, the damage was PERMANENT, all because of his negligence towards people who genuinely wanted to help him.
Robtop was even a victim of this
RobTop try not to be braindead challenge
honestly rob deserved this, after blatantly ignoring absolute's recommendations. rob just didn't care about what absolute said, and it backfired
i mean the damage wasnt really permanent like we dont really care today it was bad back then tho
Holy shit. I remember the password leaking, but didn’t know it was this bad..
kinda stupid to think that while that all was happening, i was completing map packs and getting user coins.
This is the most tragic incident in this game's history, so many levels, so much history... gone
Wow it's been a long time since I've heard someone talk about TeamHax/Anaban. As someone who was around and had friends affected by this scandal I personally enjoyed the depth this video went into with explaining the deeper implications of this entire situation.

@@Stormfly roar
What a well-formed documentary! I had originally thought that this was a recent event, but not many interesting events related to hacking take place nowadays. Quite a lot has transpired during this very long hacking scandal. If I had to picture it, I would imagine Geometry Dash (and its servers) to be a large mechanical conglomerate, slowly being broken down and tortured over time. Despite this, it still works, but sustains some mechanical breakdown in many parts.
The whole event was an exponential chain reaction - one thing led to two other things, which led to another four, eight, sixteen, and so on. As such, we cannot place the blame on any one person for all of this; even the root cause, while it may have led to a whole host of other things, really only holds responsibility for itself. Either way, there are some things that have transpired here here that are beyond our ability, as a community, to even get started with fixing. The damage has certainly been done, and now, we almost certainly will never see or hear from the thousands of lost levels, and tens of thousands of "Green user" comments.
You were correct when you said that most of us had completely forgotten about this, Stormfly. I had even started to wonder why there was a distinct lack of "unregistered/green user" comments in any level, be it old, new, famous, or unknown. Hundreds of gigabytes of data are lost, never to be seen again. Though, if I were to be completely honest, perhaps this was for the better. Don't misunderstand; I certainly would have loved to (properly) view all of Roadbose's levels, rather than seeing remakes of them. The same goes for many, many other creators. However, if you think about it a little, I personally do not think we would want to see any of these now-deleted levels with so much curiosity if they had never been deleted in the first place. They say that one does not know the value of something until it has been lost, or is otherwise inaccessible. Maybe, if all this had never happened, we would not have the grand lore that Geometry Dash has today. Perhaps Stormfly would not have created previous documentaries on topics such as Roadbose's deleted levels. Perhaps the game would lose its element of mystery. Perhaps it would be a little more predictable and boring. So, in a way, in the end, (again, don't misunderstand me) I am a little apprehensive of wishing all this had never happened in the first place. Geometry Dash itself would be a very different place housing a community with a very different mindset than what we have today.
Thank you for covering this topic, Stormfly. This was certainly a very interesting documentary. And the Geometry Dash lore continues to grow...

Damn. I played GD during 2016 and when Anaban hacked Bloodbath, I was in pure shock. Also, about TeamHax, I never knew anything about them, Pizzaroot’s stream and TheHaxor27’s stream and I thought the game was entirely safe at the time. I also never even questioned the “-“ or the unnamed green users and thought that they could’ve lost their save data over time. When I realized the green accounts were hacked is insane to think of. The hacking of these green accounts destroyed most of the Geometry Dash 2013-2015 community. If all of these green accounts were never hacked, many discoveries could’ve been made about old creators, old teams and old levels. Also about TeamN2’s leave, I was actually wondering the real truth about the team leaving the game.
Honestly I can see why 2.2 is taking so damn long now. Robtop really had to put up with a lot on top of making the update. I hope everything goes well for him and the game...

TeamHax needs to be the most dictatorial organization in GD. No one should have access to any potentially damaging exploits without a year+ of experience as a trusted team member. If TeamHax is going to do white-hat hacking and create tools that help content creators like Mega Hack, that's great - and I wish RobTop would listen to them to get value from their discoveries - but they need to take responsibility for their own members and make sure that stuff like this cannot happen.

Most people blame robtop for the games bad security, which is quite understandable, but if you look at it from his perspective, the game he had worked on for so long, devoted so much time and effort into, was basically rotting from the inside out.
We also dont know what was going on with his personal life, whether he was struggling with some sort of loss, whether he was depressed or whether he was losing motivation, which is why it's quite annoying to hear people say
"Robtop doesnt care about the game anymore"
It's kinda sad how much history was lost because of this :(

The "roadbose deleted levels" part hit hard because as a 1.1 or 1.2 player, it's very possible that I played these levels all these years ago. And to think that people won't have the chance to do that ever again is scary. Whoever or whatever got these levels deleted gave preservation the middle finger.
