  • Perhaps you’ve wondered what Red Cone was really like, or maybe just want to relive one of the craziest roads you’ve ever ridden. Paired with the fact that it was shot on the smoothest camera around, the GoPro Hero 8, this is must see tv!
    Red Cone is just about the toughest road I would ever want to ride on my 690. It really tests you and the test starts right away. No warm up! It took me about 45 minutes of riding to make it to the top, but the views from 12,801 feet make it all worth it.
    A few things not to miss…
    Some cool off the bike riding shots throughout the video, the huuuge Beaver Creek water crossing at the end - so big I brought a change of clothes just for this crossing (at 9:00), and some other fun stuff after the closing GoPro screen. Your kit is cool as shit!

    Definitely at speeds across the top at more than I'd be comfortable with. Great job.

    That beaver pond was nearly to the airbox of the bike! Nice work getting through that.

    That's awesome riding. I just got my 690. This is one of the trails I want to work up to doing on it.

      @@disbanded1 , so I've done a bunch of stuff since I got the 690. Wondering if you'd give me your opinion. The two most notable I've done on it are Imogene both ways and Mosquito pass from the Leadville side. Mosquito was more difficult due to the rocks but I did them without issue. How would you compare redcone as far as difficulty to those on a 690? Also wondering how steep that downhill from the top is compared to those two trails. Have you done Metberry up here in WP? There is a very steep slippery downhill right at the end before the boulder. How does that redcone downhill compare to that as far as steepness?

      @@flagkennyrider Red Cone is definitely tougher than Imogene or Mosquito. There are a few early rock sections that are pretty brutal, and then the downhills at the end are pretty gnarly too, but totally doable. I think you should go for it, especially if you can do Mosquito from the Leadville side. On a difficulty scale of 1 to 10, I would say Imogene 3, Mosquito 5, Red Cone 7.

    Went through that creek a bit too quick on my KDX and had to kick her over quite a few times before she would start again haha!
    Great video - just did that loop around the same time as you, definitely a treat!

    Great video and nice work. Just curious if you liked the klr over the ktm, or visa versa?

      Not even close, the KTM is an amazing bike and so much better than the KLR in every way.

    Moving at a good clip, sir! Which way did you come down? I don't recall that huge water hazard on Webster

      @disbanded1  3 года назад +1

      I came down Webster but that huge water crossing is on a side road from Webster called Beaver Creek Rd #123.

      @@disbanded1 Just out of curiosity, since you ride in such awesome and rugged territory, have you considered a steering dampener? Would you consider a video of the gear that you use, including how you mount the GoPro etc.? I've had my 2021 KTM 690 R about a month now and have been making some simple mods to it.

    • @disbanded1
      @disbanded1  3 года назад

      @@TheBigdutchster I would certainly consider a steering dampener, just haven't made the purchase yet. I think it would be a good addition. I use the chest mount for my GoPro.

    Is this trail/ride and out an back?

    • @disbanded1
      @disbanded1  3 года назад +1

      No, you have to make a loop, and it's actually a one-way road at the end of the pass. Start from 285 near Grant, head up 60 (Handcart Rd I think) to the Red Cone sign. Then at the end of Red Cone you either take Webster Pass back down to 285, or go North to the town of Montezuma, but this puts you near Keystone on the other side of the Continental Divide.

    Would you do this route on a 890 r ?

    • @disbanded1
      @disbanded1  2 года назад

      I think it depends on how good of a rider you are. I've seen people do it on bigger bikes, so it is definitely possible. My only advice would be to watch my video again - and if you think you can get through these particular parts - then you should have no problem riding this road. At about 16 seconds into my video I hit the first tough section. Watch through about 2:10. Lots and lots of big rocks through here. Then at 3:51 you hit a long and difficult uphill. I have crashed here before and it is hard to get going again because there is very little traction. Then lastly, if you feel comfortable with the very steep downhill at 6:30 - then you should be good to go. Good luck!
